Thank you for this video. Would the blues scale be best used with the Dm-G7-Cmaj7-A7 chord progression? Or simply chord tones?

I must’ve watched 500 lessons on the blue scale on the 73-year-old guy who started playing the piano 10 years ago when I had an operation paralysed from the waist down and yours is the first one that’s ever shown me the major blue scale I only knew there was a minor blue scale and I like your little trick with all the black notes and adding the A. Here’s another little trick you might wanna pass on to your viewers if you remember 321132 and play those notes it will give you the minor blue scale in any key Try it with the C minor blue scale cheers Joe

This is the best explanation of the Blues scale and improv I have ever watched. "Light Bulb Moment". Thank you so much.

Your setup is the best. To actually see the notes on the piano and on the treble and bass cliffs. No hunting to get it right with less doubt strikes. Tom, you clearly explained your points. Much gratitude. I UNDERSTAND THE BLUES SCALE AFTER 4 YEARS!!!

If you don’t get carried away playing the blues, you ain’t doing it right….🙌😎🙌 your content is absolutely so perfect for me Sir, thank you kindly indeed. I’ve been playing these scales by ear for years, and struggled with linking the major minor together…listening to Ray isn’t always enough…I need the visuals and this is perfect. Thank you kindly indeed. Thanks for helping my journey 😌🕺✌️➕❤️🌟✨

I’m grateful for this explanation of the scales. Another channel called the major blues scale the soul scale. This confuses everything for me because there’s so many variations to remember. Knowing it as the major blues scale puts the scale into working perspective without entangling one into a spider web.

Good afternoon, this is one of the best piano tutorials on KZbin. I am a beginner, having bought an old Bechstein nearly 4 years ago. As I try playing by ear it is so good having the possibility watching your fingering and, joker, yes, for sure, the notes on the staff. I subscribed and since, before the coffee, there is my piano and on the screen London Contemporary School of Piano. Before going asleep, idem dito, than with a tea. I am nearly 70 so, I think to old to learn notes, but this way of playing is fun and relaxing. Thanks so much for this tutorial and I follow up your video's. You are a fabulous good teacher. Cheers!!!

@contemporaryschoolofpiano Жыл бұрын
Many thanks, Heinz, I'm glad you found it helpful. My setup is a bit complex, it's. a Roland Keyboard working with a VST sample library so the sound quality sounds far superior to a standard digital keyboard.

It's an RD 2000, but it's actually not the native sounds of the RD 2000, it's software VST sample sounds of a mixture of my favorite grand pianos, even the best keyboards on the market don't have as good sound as high-end software VST's hopefully they will one day!

She wonders.. Why do both major and minor blues not have within them the 3 and 7th of the dominant scale which is played and sound ok even ??
@contemporaryschoolofpiano11 ай бұрын
I'd think of it like this - if something sounds good to your ear - there is a reason for it, theory in some shape or form will be able to "explain" it - a scale might have a set of notes to it, it doesn't however mean that other notes in other scales nessarily need to be elimated. It's all about the sound first. The theory follows later.

Hwllo :) When playing all black keys, I did not see you one time hit an "A": note. I am confused :(
@contemporaryschoolofpiano2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm definitely playing the A. It might be my higher hand position (you need your hands on the higher elevation of the black keys to be playing those scales) that might be hard to see that one white key, but look closely, it's there, more importantly listen closely, and you'll hear it!
@plentyofouts Жыл бұрын
He definitely played the A natural. That’s the sharp 4th note of Eb minor. I’m finally getting it 😊. Only took 35 years of playing…

What speakers are you using? Some mobile phones have very poor sound, it is definitely best to study these videos on quality speakers where you can hear everything. A very good other option is to switch on the subtitles, they are all accurate to the text.
