Embrace the errors. I think one of the worst attitudes towards an instrument is being scared of making mistakes. You have to push yourself well beyond what you can do in order to improve. Sure, during a life gig, you perhaps should play what's comfortable, but during practice or during jamming, if you never make mistakes - you never learn anything. Seen people freeze up on the instrument as soon as they're not satisfied with their result. Huge mistake, they never get anywhere. And then on stage, you're hot, your hands are sweaty, you're nervous, your band mates mess up, you can't hear yourself, your equipment isn't working properly - you'll make mistakes, better know how to deal with them. Any guitarist who hides them is a fool. You can watch John Mayer's live streams - he makes more mistakes than I do tbh and streams them to the largest fanbase any guitarist in the world enjoys.

Find the chord changes in the upper 3 strings is really a good tip, I usually disregard this step and end up doodling everywhere because I don't pay attention to underlying chords. Thanks Habibi

The vocalist who plays guitar need not aspire to shred or play intricate patterns for him playing the rhythm guitar is enough as vocal is what he needs to focus on guitar playing has different skill sets like if you want to play instrumental solos it's a different skill set if you want to be a backing guitarist is a different skill set..if you are a vocalist it's a different skill set ..most you tube videos assume you want ti be a lead/ instrument playing guitarist and tutor you accordingly
