These “SSD and HDD worn out” comments are not accurately told. It really depends on how your system is configured and how you use it. Increasing ram just means that the files are resident in RAM, which could cause it to use more power and increase system heat. This COULD potentially harm your laptop or desktop over time, but generally speaking, the impact is negligible. Allocation of RAM does not affect the life of an HDD or SSD directly. HOWEVER, if the computer is performing heavy read & write operations on any storage media, it can shorten the lifespan of the drive due to wear and tear!! So basically, allocating more RAM to After Effects can yield performance improvements, but whether or not it will harm your hard drive depends on many factors. If you arent experiencing any issues, it is generally safe to increase the RAM. So please, do not freak out over this, it has little to no affect on your HDD or SSD, these comments are dramatizing it.

It's not 12gb *ram*, it's the same 8gb ram + 4gb *virtual* ram (stored on the ssd or hard disk), this feature has been around for decades - it's just become much faster(though still much slower than real ram) with the use of SSDs.

It's simple... If you increase the virtual RAM, other components will suffer, such as the SSD for example. And thus the working life of the Disk and other parts will be shortened. Likewise, if you drive a car with 140 horses and chip at 200. The parts in the engine will wear out faster and thus shorten the life of the engine as well as other parts... it would burn out the links on the pistons faster. That's why they put a limit in the engine and if possible faster to go. But then the engine dies even faster after chipping and a certain time 😀. That's why if you plan to use a large virtual ram, boost other components as well... put a new SSD drive, a stronger power supply as well as other parts and there's no problem 👌

Well I own a Galaxy Book3 with 8gb ram and I have space for a 2nd nvme drive. My main drive where windows runs from is a 2TB samsung 980 Evo nvme and I have a 256GB samsung nvme not being used, I'm gonna install that one in the laptop and use it only for virtual ram, where I will allocate 24GB to it or even 32. I do software development on it and I have a lot of tabs open, this video is a saviour THanks!
