Hey I had a question, do you know what it means if I have 17.8 ferretin and 194 mcg/dL of iron? I am curious because my HGB is 14.5, my RBC is 5.11, my HTC is 42.3 and exaclty 3 months ago I last donated blood so I would say my blood measurements are pretty okay considering this. Also I am 21 and a male if that helps so could you tell a quick assesement of what my low ferretin and high iron says? Do not worry I have made an annual appointment with my endocrinilogist but I would like one quick opinion before visiting him, thanks I won't take it as a literal medical advise so you are covered by the law if you read this!!! Thanks in advance!!!

I can confirm he knows what hes talking about when he mentions that you have to take iron every other day. Before watching his video i was doung research on iron and saw some studies that mentioned taking it evrry other day. I had my blood tested and my iron level was at 17. I've been so tired for over two years, have muscle aches and fatigue thinking my school aged child is bringing in illness and im catching them. Id walk up the stairs and feel tired and fatigue. One day enough was enough and i called my doctor and now im on my iron journey. ❤ you deserve to live life with energy and not feel tired and sore and fatigued all the time. To think I let years go by before taking action 😔. Mamas dont put yourself last.

Finally some real advice, not just 150 mg to 300 mg a day, and come back in 3 months and we'll test again. Meanwhile my ferritin keeps getting lower to what a month ago was 4 mg. Since then I've had two episodes lasting days where I was almost going to take myself to the hospital because I was so weak, fatigued, anxious, confused and unwell.

For personal reasons I've been a very regular blood donor, never missing a single donation for close to a decade. Phlebotomists always recommended against taking iron, so I never did. My whole adult life has been depression, anxiety, and fatigue - I never understood where other people were getting all their energy from. In an unrelated surprise allergy discovery, I had a blood test and my ferritin levels are 4; not 40, not 14, not 400; 4. Needless to say I'll be taking a break from donating, supplementing my iron, and it's nice to finally know what I can do to improve things

Consume elemental iron..it's better on the digestive tract. Hydrodolized whole protein chelates is best. Consume iron in the morning preferably without food take it with a pre/probiotic or fermented foods... not with yogurt or kefir.

Over donating blood caused mine. Ferritin was at 14. Started on blood builder by meggafoods and 3 oz of beef liver few nights a week got it up to 58 within one month. Then unknowingly I started eating a few cups of oatmeal a day went to check my ferritin again a month later and it went back down to 32 I was going crazy like how can it be going down. Then I found out that the phytates in oats block absorption and even lower the levels that you already have. Now I'm up to 120 and feel great. Energy and libido sky rocketed

Dr. Angrove ; I just stumbled upon your video I have been iron deficient from a very long time and none of my dr’s ever brought it up , during my triple by pass a little over 4 years ago I was at a level where I needed a transfusion however none was given, I work out a lot and almost 4 hours a day last year and early part of this year doing HIIT battle ropes, strength training as well as rowing machine and other stuff, the demands I put on my body were far overreaching for my body and I don’t think I was consuming enough even though it said Blood Builder absorption rate was perhaps 10 % then I had an iron study done and that’s where it was reveled my less than normal levels in every category. I started taking Heme Iron supplement 40 mg in the early morning along with Vit C and B12 as well as 40 mg on an empty stomach later in the evening my from the last several months, I have cut down my workouts to around 1.5 hrs a day and I am noticing that my anxiety levels as well as a energy is coming back and my iron levels are in the mid range now. Dear Dr. Angove, Thank you for such an amazing educational insight on iron supplements intake. I am at my wits end right now. My 11 year old son has been struggling with super low iron for years now. We did a permutation combination of many iron supplements as advised by my pediatrician in India but it led to lot of digestive issues and resulted in other issues. Then a dear friend brought back Floradix syrup from London and that helped. We did a blood test after a few months and the stats looked promising. I took a break from the supplement and now he is back to super low transferrin saturation - he cant play his favourite sports, barely has any stamina and energy levels. Please advise what could help my child. What specific elemental iron (hydrolyzed whole protein chelate iron), I dont understand what this is. Should I continue Floradix syrup as it has helped him in the past? Thank you so much for your help.
Sooooooooooooo 1. Limit daily dosage to less than 60mg *elemental iron* (note: not 60mg of the iron compound itself, you will need more of the compound to get 60mg of elemental iron) 2. Take it in the morning - single dose 3. Take it with a fermented food 4. Take it every 48hours i.e every 2days, i dont know doc, i am SEVERELY anemic, think i'll stick to 24hours morning only 😁

I'm taking iron supplements every other day and as of this week my finger prick blood test shows my hemoglobin is at 15.8 can I and should I continue iron supplements at this high of a hemoglobin level? Thank you look forward to your answer.

I’ve been on iron pills for about 9 years, struggling to get my ferritin above 100. It usually sits around 40-55. Taking ferrous fumerate 100mg elemental iron. My doctor wanted me to take 180mg elemental iron of ferrous sulphate, but I opted for 150mg of ferrous fumerate with added b12, vit c, and folate to help it absorb. I was going to take it every day for 3 months and see where my iron sits. I tried doing the every second day thing and on days I did take it I was way more anxious than days I didn’t take it, so I just went back to taking it everyday, which helped my anxiety. I don’t like being on iron pills everyday or an anxiety medication and am hoping that once my iron is under control I get off my anxiety meds too. I might consider the every second day thing after these next 3 months.

Hi there! Thank you kindly for your video. I’m 43 years old, and for a long time now I’ve been struggling with panic attacks and problems breathing, and it’s gotten really bad lately. Over all these years, nobody ever tested my ferritin level ! 😳 As it turns out, I have a ferritin level of 7 ! 😮 I’m wondering what your recommendation would be for me as far as supplements go, because I cannot swallow pills. I know that sounds crazy, but I literally cannot swallow pills. Not in applesauce, not in yogurt, nothing. It’s psychological, I know. 🤣 But anyways, what would you recommend for someone like me? 🙏🏻 Thank you so much for any help you can offer, I’m so tired and I always feel like I cannot breathe. It’s so stressful. 😩 I just want my life back.

My ferratin was at 4 & thyroid was in lower normal range. Started taking beef liver, Koji iron, & 30mg NP thyroid and went back to dr in June and ferritin was at 11. I changed supplements for iron and went back 8/19/22. Now ferritin is at 5. Hopefully the blood vitality picks up ferritin so I don't have to do iron transfusion! @DrWholeness2 жыл бұрын
In supplement form or via red meat 🥩? Since starting to use Blood Vitality (www.optimizeiron.com) with patients I have not used supplemental heme iron anymore. BV is a non-heme source but the iron is held within a rice protein matrix. The idea of extracting heme iron from the blood of animals and then swallowing it seems like something I would push down stream as an intervention but I know there a few people who promote this. I would do heme over Ferrous sulphate or ferrous gluconate.
@JB-ki2vd Жыл бұрын
With regards to hepcidin and supplements,if you took your supplements in the morning would the higher level of hepcidin reduce iron absorption from food also?
@DrWholeness Жыл бұрын
The amount extracted from food is negligible compared to supplemental so it unlikely to have much effect. But another potential reason to stay away from megadose iron.

@@DrWholeness Thanks for responding! So if taking supplements every 2 days is better, on the days your not taking the supplements you would absorb more iron from food? Thanks for this video!! I started struggling with a decline in hair a few years ago. After going to a functional doctor, I discovered I had normal hemoglobin but a ferritin of 27. 😳 I started a 29 mg chelated iron supplement, and after 3 months, I’m now up to 46 on my ferritin test. It sounds like a level of 70 is needed to correct hair issues. Ugh. I wish I would have known about the foods that block iron because I have been unknowingly including those and have taken iron with my food, coffee, dairy, etc. I am waiting to see what the doctor recommends going forward. The digestive changes have been undesirable so I am thinking of adding fermented foods on top of my probiotic. Does the ferritin increase sound like ideal progress or on the slow side?

if you have inflammation expressing hepcidin thru IL6 then ferritin will increase as the iron that is constantly being recycled by macrophages on senescent red blood cells gets stored as ferritin instead of being returned to the blood stream since hepcidin closes the ferroportin portals that allow iron to return to the bloodstream from the dying red blood cells and iron coming from diet so it's not ferritin you want higher its serum iron, transferrin saturation % and HGBs.
