I used to be able to split and straddle when I was in jr. high. People always asked "doesn't it hurt your balls?" Doing splits doesn't put any stress on the groin area. It's mostly in your thigh area. Your balls just sit on the ground.

@Sakaki98
@Sakaki98 9 жыл бұрын
Anaz Blackie Actually, that's only part of the equation. Muscle is the strength and weight aspect. But speed is the other part, arguably the most important. A car which weighs several hundred times more than a bicycle will hurt less going at 2 mph than said bicycle going at 40 mph. By this logic speed is much higher yield than building muscle mass. Plus, the thing about speed is that it doesn't always require decreased muscle mass to increase, whereas increasing muscle mass will always result in a direct loss of speed, meaning you don't gain as much power- if any at all- from doing so.
@MrPancake777
@MrPancake777 9 жыл бұрын
+julian12465 i must mention that if the guy earlier meant muscle as in mass producing raw power. Than it cannot be overlooked that the faster an object travels the more mass (muscle/power) it obtains. For example if you were to travel near the speed of light, then you'd literally weight more than a planet, if not much more. But I get what you're saying though. :) .

Good pointers, Shane. I've been doing these in ballet classes for years (though I haven't got my full splits-it's way better than it used to be). Highly recommend all these as well as ballet barre(or floor barre) stretches-there are a bunch on youtube. It all translates into better kicks("battement" in ballet parlance). Cheers!

Thank you for telling people to warm up before we stretch. So many are told from childhood to stretch first, often even ignoring warm ups all together. Muscles can be though of like rubber cords, if you pull on them when they are cold, they are more likely to tear or get injured. Thanks for all your content.

Hey ***** , do you think you can make a full video where you go through all the stretches in the video for the full 30 second length? It would be much more enjoyable to stretch along than to constantly pause and count.

Shane, you're awesome. I am indeed a 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu student and the butterfly stretch is one of our core stretches; it's fantastic to see it becoming more and more popular by the day, especially after Metamoris 3 :). I think that the best kicker I know of is probably Scott Adkins, or Aaron Gassor (known as GingerNinjaTrickster on KZbin). Great video :).

Hey shane, in yoga the stretching at 1:00 we do it by keeping our knees straight and our hips up as much as possible and try to get our elbows and head to the floor between the legs, without going to the front and we try to touch our knees with our head but always keeping the hips back, so the hamstrings and legs in general are getting so much flexible, just a tip, keep it up, great work, greetings from México

Glad to hear. I've been at it for about 3 weeks now and I feel like my straddle has improved somewhat too. I believe I haven't been able to do a 90 degree straddle before, now I can get that done pretty easily. I think it will take another 3-4 months to achieve reasonable flexibility and probably close to 10 months or a year to get to Shanes level.

IONS LEGACY you should feel a slight pain especially because each of these stretches has you fully extending the leg, after some time you should no longer feel any pain during your stretches. If you do these for about a month or so every day and you still feel pain, then maybe you are doing something wrong or you should consult a physician

Your are 100% correct that is impossible to perform a middle split or some other complex stretching without activating the muscle fibres meaning implementing some small low intensity stretch. My martial arts is known as karate and I nearly convert a middle split into an asset therefore just require a little more practice. By the way highly appreciated your stretching drills being demonstrated here. 👍👍👍

Hey, thank you very much for this video, I've been looking for this for a long time ! I am planning to take up Muay Thai, so I need to have good kicks for that, I will do this routine every day now, but I am the stiffest person alive it seems. I am under the impression that it's my lower abs and back that are the stiffest part, and it makes some of the exercises on the floor harder to do, but I will keep it up, and get better thanks to you ! take care and stay awesome

Any styles are effective, but for me without the power of your mind and your brave heart you won't win a fight even though you're good at taekwondo or anything else. That's just my opinion, cause i once got bullied a year ago and i didn't manage to punch/kick him because my heart back then was weak even though i can punch real good.

tsukada yamato You're so damn right (well that pony of your profile is kinda gay, but that's none of my business). If you don't have the will to fight, then you won't get far, no matter how hard you train, it's all a state of mind.

I'm 36 and I used to do high kicks easily. I realized a couple of years ago, somewhere down the line that ended, BADLY. Can't even side kick above my waist anymore. Anyways, started doing these stretches and holy CRAP do they feel good. Really feeling the changes in my flexibility and overall blood-flow in my legs. Will be doing these every day. Thanks!

For use in practical application, I would say yes, in terms of form, I'd say a heap of professional Tae Kwon Do blackbelts, Tang Soo Doo guys would smoke Lee in terms of proper kicking technique and form. But fighting? Bruce had a good overall philosophy, well-rounded, like an MMA fighter before MMA became popular.
