I used to be able to split and straddle when I was in jr. high. People always asked "doesn't it hurt your balls?" Doing splits doesn't put any stress on the groin area. It's mostly in your thigh area. Your balls just sit on the ground.

julian12465 muscle is the power
@Sakaki989 жыл бұрын
Anaz Blackie Actually, that's only part of the equation. Muscle is the strength and weight aspect. But speed is the other part, arguably the most important. A car which weighs several hundred times more than a bicycle will hurt less going at 2 mph than said bicycle going at 40 mph. By this logic speed is much higher yield than building muscle mass. Plus, the thing about speed is that it doesn't always require decreased muscle mass to increase, whereas increasing muscle mass will always result in a direct loss of speed, meaning you don't gain as much power- if any at all- from doing so.
@MrPancake7779 жыл бұрын
+julian12465 i must mention that if the guy earlier meant muscle as in mass producing raw power. Than it cannot be overlooked that the faster an object travels the more mass (muscle/power) it obtains. For example if you were to travel near the speed of light, then you'd literally weight more than a planet, if not much more. But I get what you're saying though. :) .

Good pointers, Shane. I've been doing these in ballet classes for years (though I haven't got my full splits-it's way better than it used to be). Highly recommend all these as well as ballet barre(or floor barre) stretches-there are a bunch on youtube. It all translates into better kicks("battement" in ballet parlance). Cheers!

Thank you for telling people to warm up before we stretch. So many are told from childhood to stretch first, often even ignoring warm ups all together. Muscles can be though of like rubber cords, if you pull on them when they are cold, they are more likely to tear or get injured. Thanks for all your content.

Hey shane, in yoga the stretching at 1:00 we do it by keeping our knees straight and our hips up as much as possible and try to get our elbows and head to the floor between the legs, without going to the front and we try to touch our knees with our head but always keeping the hips back, so the hamstrings and legs in general are getting so much flexible, just a tip, keep it up, great work, greetings from México

Glad to hear. I've been at it for about 3 weeks now and I feel like my straddle has improved somewhat too. I believe I haven't been able to do a 90 degree straddle before, now I can get that done pretty easily. I think it will take another 3-4 months to achieve reasonable flexibility and probably close to 10 months or a year to get to Shanes level.

IONS LEGACY you should feel a slight pain especially because each of these stretches has you fully extending the leg, after some time you should no longer feel any pain during your stretches. If you do these for about a month or so every day and you still feel pain, then maybe you are doing something wrong or you should consult a physician

My martial arts is known as karate and I nearly convert a middle split into an asset therefore just require a little more practice. By the way highly appreciated your stretching drills being demonstrated here. 👍👍👍

Im 41 years old and I never had good flexibility. Is it too late?
@fighttips10 жыл бұрын
Of course not! It'll be more difficult, but not impossible.

I hear you on age Sinseer, I'm 6 months into some "thai inspired" kickboxing at age 46; everything seems to hurt more than when I was younger.

+fightTIPS Hey, how much is it supposed to hurt when you stretch? Its like, you can always go harder, but what should i aim for? Intense pain, almost no pain, or somewhere in between or what? Please answer, i have always wondered about this :-)
@stephaniegrodem85929 жыл бұрын
+Oskar Skak at first, it will hurt a good bit, but after some time the pain go s away and you will notice the pain difference hurting less each week.But yes it will hurt but dont overpush yourself

Thank you thank you thank you so much for this video!!! I did some dynamic stretches before doing these, but I'm definitely going to watch your video on it. I'm really trying to get my high kicks up to speed. I really appreciate how you let us know where we should be feeling the stretches at. That way we're sure that we are stretching properly. Well done, my good sir!

Andy Hug. Best heavyweight kicker I've ever seen. Thrown roundhouses, crescent kicks, spinning heel kicks, and his infamous axe kick. He even axe kicked Cro Cop in K1!!

Thank you so much Shane. This video helped me very very much and let me do high kicks after a tear wich I had two years ago .I'm doing Taekwondo and obviously I couldn't tolerate kicking without flexibility , greetings from Argentina.

Best kicks? Bruce Lee. No contest.
@rira70638 жыл бұрын
Bruce lee WAS that best
@interestedparty75238 жыл бұрын
For use in practical application, I would say yes, in terms of form, I'd say a heap of professional Tae Kwon Do blackbelts, Tang Soo Doo guys would smoke Lee in terms of proper kicking technique and form. But fighting? Bruce had a good overall philosophy, well-rounded, like an MMA fighter before MMA became popular.
