During summer months the rule I use to run the A/C is over 40 mph windows up A/C on. Under 40 mph windows down and A/C off.

Also worth mentioning is replacing the fuel filter. And some advanced tips messing with aerodynamics ie. Vortex generators, undertrays, diffusers, and putting a performance tune on the computer

great advice.. few other tips like clogged catalytic convertor or muffler.. worn plugs, dirty or bad sensors like the O2 or MAP, dirty fuel injectors.. and about 50 other things.. but you got the top 10 for sure.

tex959 Those things definitely rob you of gas mileage. Thanks for commenting.

Good basic recommendations to follow in order to improve MPG. Just to expand a little, on point 4, it is really best to go by the PSI rating on the tire, and not the manufacturer recommended PSI. Auto Engineers make a recommendation based on comfort, and not MPG. For MPG, the tire pressure should be the PSI rating on the tire, minus 10-15%. For example, for a 44 PSI tire, the best PSI for MPG would be between 38 and 40PSI.

I pump mine up to 46-48psi unless it's really hot. I figure the tire companies don't want lawsuits so they make them able to take more than stated.

Can you give more details on why we don't have to warm up the engine before driving? I've always been told to do so
@MrRArenth5 жыл бұрын
Today's vehicles do not need to warm up. In the past it was a good idea to warm up your engine, but not anymore. The engines computer and other systems automatically compensate.

50 years ago engines had looser mechanical tolerances. As the motor heats up the metal parts inside the engine expand and the tolerances become tighter. Modern engines have tighter tolerances and therefore much less wear and tear operating cold.

My 2015 ford focus doesn't have a fuel tank unscrew cover. Just the lid that opens like a door. Is air getting in?
@tex9595 жыл бұрын
most likely not or your check engine light will illuminate. I have the same set up. This type of fuel inlet seals like the screw in type.

The fuel cap gasket stops fuel vapors going into the environment as per EPA regs. Air needs to enter your fuel tank as you use the fuel, or it would implode...

44psi is the max psi the tire can handle without exploding. never ever use this as a starting point! anywhere between 32-35psi is a good starting point. I too have come across people over the years that swore by 44psi, everyone of them had no tread left in the center because they were bulging like a balloon. once I pointed this out they reduced to 35 lol
@SMD-si7fm2 жыл бұрын
It's based off vehical weight. Big diesel pick up trucks run 80psi in the rear from factory.
