Many of you in the comments have pointed out Virtual Desktop as an alternative to Oculus. Testing Virtual Desktop myself, I've found it to give off much better performance than Oculus (Tested Beat Saber, got 120FPS with an RTX 2060). If you'd like a tutorial for Virtual Desktop, check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5iyi3yQbrx2hdk NOTE: The way that Oculus Dashboard Switcher handles custom install locations has changed slightly than what's shown in the video. Please read the GitHub page for handling custom install locations: github.com/AntAptive/OculusDashboardSwitcher Did these tips help? Do you have any tips yourself to help the community? Steam Link is also an option and imho seems to have better performance by default. Additionally Virtual Desktop is definitely worth considering for wireless PCVR as it does AV1 compression and seamlessly bridges the gaps between Steam and Meta store games. If getting it, get the one in the Meta store, not the Steam store as the server is free and the client needs to run on the headset. Additionally, WiFi 6 or better is a must for PCVR. 5ghz alone is too wide of a range of base performance that it’s not the best indicator of a network being PCVR ready. WiFi 6 or 7 will provide the necessary bandwidth to avoid artifacting. WiFi 5 is also ok but will not be optimal. Revive will also be handy if avoiding the OpenXR association dance as it will bring Meta games into SteamVR

i had this problem when running into the radius 2 on steam vr. My friend has around the same pc specs as me (4070 super 12gb with a ryzen 5600x ) whilst i have a 4070 super 12 gb with a intel i5 12400f. he could run the game at max pixels at 120hz with no problem and when i try it my game goes way above the latency for 120hz.you could say i should turn the hz or rendering resoloution down but i had already tried that and the frametime was still awful. it also isnt just into the radius, its every game i play on steam vr with a cable. if i were to play a game with steamlink instead of my cable it would run fine but it cant be my cable because the speed of the cable is 3gbps? if you can help me in anyway please reply🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

If it's the official link cable Oculus sells, I'm sorry to say that the cord is terrible for PCVR and Oculus Link itself isn't anything to write home about. It also comes down to the speeds of the USB port you're using on your PC. USB 3.0 is required for high-quality VR streaming, and USB 3.1 or better is recommended. If it's possible, I would ditch the cord altogether and go completely wireless with Virtual Desktop, Steam Link, or ALVR. From personal experience, Virtual Desktop is definitely worth the money ($25), but the other two I've mentioned are completely free. I have a tutorial coming out later today at 3PM MT which will go over these three and how to set them up. Let me know if you need any more help!

@@AntAptive i thought it was a bottlekneck at first or the fact that itr2 is still in early access and might not be fully optimised. i dont really have any other ideas apart from a steam vr issue(also the cable is from amazon i forgot where from but ik it is a good make)
@AntAptive14 күн бұрын
@dottyncl Likely it's Oculus because Oculus itself isn't optimized well for PCVR. Virtual Desktop has given me better performance than Oculus has ever. VD, Steam Link and ALVR are all worth checking out.

Did if I bypass oculus dashboard can I play Oculus on Low pc?
@AntAptive18 күн бұрын
It won't guarantee flawless performance, but it will help. Your computer should at the least meet the minimum requirements for SteamVR and the games you're playing.

Or just spend the $20 to get Virtual Desktop and never have to worry about it. Meta has no real interest in PCVR, and it shows in how buggy and featureless their software is, and they clearly have no intention of improving it. Virtual Desktop is probably the best $20 you'll spend if you plan on playing PCVR.

I fully agree with this, I'm personally saving to get a Valve Index. Oculus PCVR is nothing to write home about. Virtual Desktop wasn't mentioned because it's not free and I wanted the tutorial to be a completely free solution. I've also experienced immense performance issues with Virtual Desktop and requested a refund, but given the amount of comments mentioning it, I might have to see about making a follow-up. Thanks for leaving a comment!

Air Link is honestly so garbage and still locks you to the fucking Oculus dashboard, you can achieve the same thing Oculus killer does with steam link from the Meta app store if you don't wanna splurge for VD
@AntAptive16 күн бұрын
Yeah, Air Link has given me plenty of problems. I've seen people complaining about Steam Link and while I do recommend VD, a free alternative worth looking into is ALVR, though I haven't had the time to test it myself as of writing this. I've seen good things so far though. I will see about a follow-up on this soon. Still, thanks for your feedback!

@@AntAptive Funny thing actually, when I first bought my Quest I was daily-ing Linux for almost a year at that point but could not for the life of me get ALVR (The only VR streamer app that works on Linux) to properly connect, I ended up having to ditch the linux OS and go back to windows, then I started having problems with Oculus Link, started using Steam Link and for the most part I think it's quite good, decent image quality with a good amount of settings but because my connection was kinda bad (Far away from the router) whenever steam link would dc it would just completely close my game and I'd have to restart everything up, and it's what drove me to spend a good chunk of money on VD(I live in a third world country so VD was actually a p BIG purchase) and haven't had any issues since
@AntAptive16 күн бұрын
@@Kei-rq8zi I bought VD again yesterday and have had better performance than I've ever. I was experiencing some stuttering this morning though, I'll have to look into that.

Soooo, no virtual desktop? Like, literally the best way to use a Quest with your PC? Do the research.
@AntAptive17 күн бұрын
I opt for Air Link because it's the free solution. VD may be better for you and it's definitely a consideration, but I've personally found it to be extremely laggy and had even requested a refund, but this was likely due to misconfiguration on my end. Like I said, not everything was mentioned in the tutorial and I do appreciate you mentioning VD for anyone that comes to the comments. Try it and see if it works for you!
@ST-RTheProtogen16 күн бұрын
VD is really not that good dude. It's definitely not good enough to warrant a snarky comment that doesn't help improve anyone's experience. Do the research.
