I was a bit bummed after a whole master bath renovation and having less water pressure. I thought maybe it was the pex I used, and then I found this video. I couldn't get the blue restrictor out completely but I removed the o-ring and cut the middle of the restrictor out with an X-acto knife. Viola! I can't wait for my wife to take a shower and comment on the water pressure! thanks! you saved me from tearing out the closet wall and replacing water line :)

THIS!!! I wish I would have known a long time ago that only the tiny o ring needs to be removed! I asked numerous plumbers how to remove the flow restrictor when the plastic is physically attached inside the shower head, where the plastic piece cannot just be pulled out. I was told to drill the plastic out and I did that on my cheaper shower head, but wasn’t willing to do that on my newer expensive shower heads. After over a year of fussing around trying to get enough flow from my tankless water heater in order to get it to work properly, I finally found out today that all I needed to do was remove this little o ring. I hope more people see this video as this is what fixed my water flow issue and so far, now my tankless water heater is working perfectly since there is plenty of flow!

Dude, this made a HUGE difference. I was trying to yank the whole thing out but just taking the rubber o ring was the perfect balance between good pressure while maintaining some water savings. Thanks dude

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Been buggin the hell out of me! I've been here for 4 years and kept searching for solutions that had to do with maybe the water pressure in the house was low. Just today I thought "Why not search the brand of shower head that I bought?!" and then your video pops up first so you get the credit!

Thanks for figuring it out. I had taken mine off and looked at it. I had grabbed on to the blue part to give it a little pull and it didn't budge. Got on KZbin to see what the best way of dealing with low flow on this model Delta. Glad I didn't pull harder, or drill it out. Getting that O-ring out is the way to go.

Great video and right to the point. I initially was trying to pull out the blue plastic part but discovered it was glued in place. Removing the O-ring worked much better. The blue plastic now acts like a filter and keeps small bits of debris from clogging up the shower head. Thanks so much.

Thanks for posting. So many others recommended drilling out the blue plastic restrictor but just removing the rubber ring is easier, faster, and results in a significant increase in water pressure.

Thanks a ton for posting this! My wife and I recently had our 4'x5' shower remodeled by a professional tile/artist, man he did a fantastic job and I purchased the oil rubbed bronze head and valve just like you have in this video and when he was done we were SO excited to finally use our new shower, BUT I was grossly disappointed in the water pressure because it was less than we had before. I checked everything and I never even mentioned it h\to him. I'll bet he knew, lol... I just removed the little o-ring and will try this. I sure hope it works!!!

I only wanted a small increase in flow, so I tried just cutting the O-ring and taking out just 1/4 of the ring. The remaining 75% fit back in and seems to be held in place well. The flow increase with just 1/4 of the ring gone is still quite dramatic. I might put another small piece back in.

Thanks for video. I had installed all new mixer valve and shower head and had limited pressure. I had already removed the mixer valve and looked at it. Not sure why I didn't think of the restriction being in the shower head itself because I have done this to other shower heads when I put on a new one and had a reduced flow. This worked perfect. Thanks.

Dude, I went all the way on mine. The rubber gasket had a metal screen which I promptly snipped out. That whole plastic insert was a bitch. I had to break out the Dewalt and 3/16 bit and drilled it out. Not quite done yet. At the bottom of that is yet another lip which is cast to the metal of the housing, which I drilled out giving me as much flow as possible. Night and day difference. These Delta heads are really set up to restrict flow. Thanks for the motivation.

But why is that rubber ring there in the first place? And why the water pressure was fine and then, all of a sudden, it stopped working?
@coyotesbanff13442 жыл бұрын
The rubber ring is to restrict the flow of water to conserve. I'm not sure what you mean that it stopped working. The video or yours at home?
@Cai1082 жыл бұрын
@@coyotesbanff1344 I mean, why the water pressure decreased suddenly? It was working fine and then it became weak. I followed instructions in the video and now I solved it, but I wonder why the weak pressure started.
@americanmanstan23813 жыл бұрын
Looks like to me you just took out the o-ring that is located on the actual flow restrictor. I took out my whole restrictor and there's an o-ring within it. But then again, mine is a new moen.

@jasonwade10213 жыл бұрын
Do you get more pressure if you remove whole plastic piece? Trying to get more water pressure but not trying to triple my water bill so maybe just removing o-ring will conserve more?
@daneotto2 жыл бұрын
I removed the whole plastic piece and it does let 100% of the pressure to work for you. BUT, removing the plastic piece on a Delta is not as easy as many YT vids lead you to believe. I yanked the thing and nothing came out but the tabs. Ended up drilling the center out. Wish I had seen this guy's video first since it seems to give excellent pressure with minimal work. :-P

Volume was low on this video but who cares... the visual is all that's needed. I had checked all the plumbing and the valve itself to no avail... then I watched this video, took out the little rubber seal, and like magic... Water Pressure! I don't even care to investigate why they put that seal in there in the first place... If it was to conserve, it doesn't make sense because it takes twice as long to shower with low pressure.

I didn't want to risk permanently damaging the head by drilling or anything. This was the least invasive measure that could be done quickly without any specialized tools. It also achieved the desired effect.
