Yeah I would suggest either just pick green stones right now, or wait for them to do an event with a character you want because the odds right now that you will get a an perticular 5 star green hero is about 1 out of 500 green stones. Thats why I show how to get 5*s becuase then the numbers arnt so depressing

Nice math. Finally somebody thinking before pushing buttons. I think I can confirm your 'B' theory because I saw people avoiding specific orbs to get their characters. I didn't check if the rates goes up even if you don't finish the session but I think it is. I focused on blue and red orbs and got 5 stars Eirika, Peri, 4 stars Abel and 3 stars Fir (twice). Which is pretty good for a total of 30 orbs spent.

It would be great if you could make a spreadsheet with some of this math built in. That way, whenever they add new heroes, or if they put up a new summoning focus, you can just quickly look at what the new odds are. I was going to try it, but without the math that you glossed over, it's difficult to do this. And I don't want to have to re-do all the work you've done!

Assuming option A is correct and the orb colors depend on heroes chosen, I calculated the probability of each orb color appearing based on probability that you will get a 5 star, 4 star, or 3 star unit of that color. I then watched people do a bunch of summons on KZbin. I used the Spring Festival pack to collect data since many people made videos of them opening that pack due to its popularity. I kept track of how many of each color orb appeared with each roll, summed up the number of each color that appeared in all of the rolls, and divided by the total. Turns out, the percentages I got were indeed skewed toward the percentages I calculated that should appear. To see real convergence I feel like I need a much bigger sample size, but the correlation is there and option A in this video now has experimental data behind it. I made a spread sheet that tells the probability of each color and type of unit being a 5 star from each color of orb. All I have to do is enter the number of each type and color of unit into a data table and it will tell me the probabilities and which orbs to go for every time a new focus pack is released. I realized I could have been doing openings much more efficiently that I have been so far. Thanks a bunch for making this video. :)

Great work! Learned something new. With everything you said, and the non-stellar tier ratings of a lot of the focus heroes though it might pay off to summon green this cycle if you are craving an S-tier hero. I actually was only pulling green orbs this cycle and pulled Hector as my first 5* because there are so few green 5* heroes and no focus heroes that are green. But clearly now I know it wasn't the best way to get 5*s because they are predetermined at the start of the summon

This is interesting stuff, thanks for taking the time to figure it out and make a video to explain it. However, there's one point you didn't go into in the video (and I understand why, because it's a bit beyond the scope of the video) which is that not every 5* hero is worth having, especially if you already have a good team. For example, your stats show that Green has worse odds than Clear, but that's ignoring the fact that Green has more good 5* units like Hector, Julia, Minerva, Camilla and even Nino at 4*, while the only great Clear unit is Takumi (and Kagero and Klein to a lesser extent) and Clear has the highest rate of really bad/low tier ones. Also worth of consideration is that Red has been the most common color since the start, so a great many people already have a good/great Red unit, which both makes getting further Reds less attractive, and also makes Blues more attractive as a counter. Like I said, I understand why you didn't go into things like that, but I think it deserves to be mentioned that just going for the highest percentage isn't the best strategy and getting the most 5* units doesn't necessarily get you the best team.

Yeah that stuff would be hard to account for sense I would have to have a definition of a "Good Unit" that was more specific. My definition in the video for "good" was a 5 star but I understand that people have put the heroes in tiers but who belongs in what tier is still debated so I went for the obvious and factual 5 star=Good. I also agree that an individual may have deferent team needs but that would be very difficult to calculate as every persons needs is different. I would most likely have to look at an individual team to even figure out what they should do to be even more optimal but even then I don't currently have a formula to do that type of speculation. So I didn't really talk about individual team composition and instead went for a good general strategy that works for almost anyone as long as their goal is to optimize their chances to get 5* units. Thank you for you critique, I'm always looking for new perspectives and ideas to better my calculations for everyone.

Hmm, even if option B isn't really consistent with that description, it may still be possible that that's what happens. It would be interesting to see an actual test for this, for example testing whether banners without green focus units generate less green summoning stones. But such a test would require spending a lot of money to buy a lot of orbs, waiting a long time to gather a lot of free orbs, or creating a lot of dummy accounts for testing.

This is hard to explain but ill try, so Nintendo explained that if their are 4 heroes that have a total chance of 3% of being summoned the % gets divided by them equally making .75% for each character to be summoned. So lets say there are 10 heroes, 8 red 2 blue and all of them are equally as likely to be chosen, that would mean 100%/10 so 10% for each character of being summoned. So with option A that means a red stone has a 80% chance of being red and a 20% chance of being blue. But with option B, instead each stone would have a 50 percent chance of being red or blue. But that would mean that red heroes have a (50%/8) 6.25 percent chance of being chosen while blue heroes have a (50%/2) 25% chance to be chosen. That would be bad because the heroes should have a 10% chance of being summoned because using the way Nintendo explained it would 100%/10 making 10%

The logical reasoning on how you figured the probabilities of receiving a specific color 5 star unit were disjoint was astounding! Also, does your calculation account for the 0.5% increase towards a 5 star pull? I mainly ask this question because I wonder if the probability distribution would be uniform across all the colors since you did mention getting green 5 star units have little to no chance of being pulled. (ANSWERED in upcoming Vids) :( You missed the only question i have (the most confusing part). If you summon 5 heroes you increase the chance of getting a 5* (It does not matter if u summon 5 in one go/one session, just 5 summons without a 5star.) On top of this the count starts/resets the instant you pick a 5star i.e. you open the first slot its a 5 star, then you open the next 4 and no more are 5*, your count is now 4/5 and you need to start a new summoning session and open 1 to get the .5% increase (i have tested this). My question is, does the % increase mid summoning session or is the % set to the % when you entered. If it is A type from what you say it seems like the % is set upon entering and will not increase or decrease until you leave the session. However if this was the case one would assume the Count would also work this way and if you pulled a 5 star anywhere in that session the count would not start until you opened a new session(tested count restarts the instant a 5* is pulled). I need to know if I have a high % when entering and my 1st pull is a 5* should i quit there or open the entire session as the entire session has the high % chance of 5star or if I should leave because I have already used the increased %.

So I have only put a small amount of time into looking into 4* but from what I have found the numbers are similar with red and green having about a 38% chance blue having about a 35% chance and clear 33% chance of being 4*. So this is just broad and I havnt done real number crunching here but id say focus on red and green and defintily stay away from clear. and thank you and sorry I cant give a more detailed guide

okay I'm making up fake numbers for this example but it will make it simpler to understand. Lets pretend there are only 5 stars and 4 stars. And there are only 2 colors blue and red. There is a 10% chance of getting a 5 star character and a 90% chance of getting a 4 star character. There is 1 blue 5 star character and 9 red 5 star characters. There are 8 blue 4 stars characters and 1 red 4 star characters. Now with there being 10 5 stars character and 10% chance of a 5 star being summoned that means each individual 5 star character has a 1% chance of being chosen. On the other hand there are 9 4 star characters and a 90% chance of getting a 4 star so each character has a 10% chance of being summoned. So if you look with their being 9 red five stars at 1% each and 1 red 4 star at 10% you add that up you and there is a 19% chance you will find a red orb. So lets say there we find a red orb. There is a 9 out of 19 percent chance that red orb has a 5 star hero, so if we choose that orb there is a 9/19 (47%) chance that red orb will be a 5 star hero. So even though as a whole it is 10% of getting a 5 star hero, if you find a red orb it will be a 47% chance of being a 5 star. Hopefully that makes sense cause I basically used that logic to get the equations in my video

Josh Duong okay if you want Hector in particular and you only choose green stones, you have about a 1/250 chance to get him. And green stones are pretty uncommon so you will probably only average 1 a session meaning you will pay 5 orbs per green stone. And about 40% of the time your session will have no green orbs. If you goal is just any 5* green hero. Then you have about a 1/29 chance to get a green hero if you only choose green stones. If you want a green hero I would wait for now, until a banner increases greens odds. I mean there your orbs do what you want but I just don't think the odds are in your favor.

I like to think its like counting cards in poker, its doesn't mean you will win but you know how the cards work so you can increase your chances of winning, Second I actually did say the current odds for pulling focus and non focus five stars. My example was when talking about rarity odds was 3% divided by 6 heroes (the amount in the current banner) and said it was .5%. So I watch your Video and Think okay I can totally appreciate this. I had already deduced that I shouldn't be opening Green no matter what this time but I had planned to wait until the next Booster because I had checked the reviews on the new kids and they where meh. Wow that's some nice pulls, Yeah this banner its kind of easy to tell that one should avoid green but some people may think that a green is worth it at 3 light orb cost.

I got a 5 star Hector without even on accident I meant to click the red orb next to green but I missed pressed and to my shocking surprise it was a 5 star Hector. and the red that I meant to click had a 5 star Lucina which made more surprised.

Jason Dobbins A.K.A. GamerMan83 so I didn't know what the colored stones where called them colored orbs, but I needed away to distinguish between colored orbs and the orbs that are currency, so I called the currency orbs light orbs. I realized my mistake after the video and if you watch my future videos I call the colored orbs- colored stones and I call the light orbs-orbs. Sorry for the confusion
