The first time I've ever seen someone use a impact to install spark plugs...this guy has a huge pair ! Wouldn't recommend it to the rest of the world (unless your impact has a torque limiter on it..Next video how to repair stripped threads in a head!lol

cheers mate, well thought out video explanation. I have been doing this for years & it does make a small difference on standard cars, but it makes a huge noticeable difference on Supercharged & Turbo vehicles. Acceleration on my supercharged BA six cyl is noticeably improved and it also fixed the small high speed break down that it used to have at WOT when nothing else would. Well worth doing and when you combine with other mods it helps a lot.

hey man great videos, was wondering if you could make a video on the hks pulley, i was interested to do this to my engine, was told it makes the car sound and possibly faster

Another thing to try before indexing your plug is. Side gapping plugs, this ensures that the center electrode is not being shrouded by the ground strap, consequently making a bigger spark for a more efficient/clean burn. Did these two things combined in my BB 361 Mopar and had a tremendous difference in tone and acceleration, the engine sounds more throaty now. EDIT: just avoid doing this on a worn engine/ oil burning cylinder, since partially the ground strap is removed and the protection from the plug's ground strap is now non-existent and can get oil/fuel fouled. Quick note: even dirt track/drag race cars even use this method to get every ounce of power an engine can make.

Definitely not worth the risk to use an impact driver, but otherwise very helpful video. Thanks you!

Unrelated to this vid, but think you may be the man to ask. My 4age ae101 silver top broke down NYE day, engine light came on and just stopped at the intersection. It would start, running rough and crawl enough to get to a carpark. We found that II had dodgy coolant sensor, we replaced that but still an engine light and still running rough. The car will not even start now we had spark the day before now none. Could this be an 02 sensor issue also, maybe in conjunction with a old Distributor. Motors done 175000 km.

Uncontrollable cringe watching him use a power tool to install spark plugs. Sincerely glad you didn't get cross threaded, but that's still a bad idea no matter how experienced you are.

It was like watching my bone coming out of my flesh of my arm , when I got hit with a baseball bat........Impact wrenches/drivers have no place when changing plugs.......

Right around 3:35 you skipped a bunch of steps, can you elaborate how you came to all those conclusions to the 4 cylinder markings?

You just have to try every spark plug in each cylinder one by one to fill the grid with all the positions. Then you can choose the best plug for each cylinder to get the best orientation.

Or you could simply put in some Bosch Platinum 2 plugs - they are open ceramic and there is NO metal prong to fuss over, no indexing to worry about.

I actually indexed a set of Bosch +4's on a 16-valve Kia Rio. I turned one ground strap BetweeN the intake valves because the Fuel/Air mixture comes in at angles. The care gets about 40-45 more miles per tankful, runs noticably quieter, and has a bit more power. The +2's I'd probably position with the ground straps at 90 degrees to the intake valves.
