How can I remove this style fan, when it’s screwed tight to the above floor joist? I almost have it removed but the housing won’t budge. Is my only option, to cut into my ceiling?

If installing it in attic space wouldn’t using insulated duct be more appropriate because of the cold attic environment? Band clamps or screws holding the ducting on then tape wrap is better. My question is: would it be better to oversize a fan a bit because I often find myself running my bathroom fan at least 20 minutes after my shower to help dissipate the moisture build up during the shower that it couldn’t keep up with?

I replaced mine, same brand, and just replaced that part containing the motor and the fan etc and just put it back into the original housing that was installed in the attic access but either part of the housing seems loose or something is wrong because it fell back out when I was troubleshooting to make sure it worked after plugging it in, I was able to put it back in, just not sure I trust it...so far with the cover on, it's working, just doesn't seem real secure and although it's in the same way the old one was, didn't seem to click in like yours did in those little slots.

Always enjoy your excellent videos Josh. In my opinion, they are the best on the Internet for this type of work. I too wish you would supplement this by adding how to connect the same fan with a light. I have in my hand the Broan connections for the combo unit. It has the two plug-ins, one with black & white and the other blue & white. I am assuming that 12/3 or 14/3 will be run, the white neutrals wire nutted together and the two blacks will connect and finally the blue and red (from the 14/3) will wire together. Correct?

If you look at the videos on my channel of wiring the rooms, ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZTVgnWCq7aHhrM )they show me running a 12 three wire to power the fan light combo. It is the exact same way you would wire a bathroom fan light combo. I hope that helps!

When stripping the wire I recommend just cut at the very end, and then pull back on one wire to split the yellow jacket back to the wire entrance. This way you don't risk cutting into the wire with your blade.

I moved into a house with a downstairs bathroom. Noticed that the ceiling fan isn’t connected to a flex duct or obviously a vent. Any tips on how to run it to the outside? My guess is to stay away from the top two two block courses on the basement wall and punch through the third. Is it okay to punch through the second course or stick with my gut?

Great video. Thanks for making it. Now I know why I can't remove the whole assembly without having to get into the attic. I think I will just replace the motor module for now. I figured while I was looking to replace it, I'd inspect the flexible duct hose to make sure it was clear of debris. I've heard stories of construction workers stuffing trash in it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Josh, LOVE your videos. I have installed two similar Broan fans in my build and one has a heater, the other just exhaust. I am planning on SEVERAL inches of blow in cellulous insulation after the ceiling goes in. Do cover yours with insulation, do you build a protective box around your fan.... mine is IC rated but I am worried about the fan with the heat unit. Should I build a protective foam box around it or bury it with blow in insulation.??? Thanks!!

Hi! So I took mine down and apart cuz I noticed it starting smelling like dampness in the bathroom. It was dusty af…i cleaned it and still not exhausting but the fan is blowing but not towards that black thing. Also that black plastic exhaust pipe thing has little flapper things that can open if I tap on them but not too much…like there is something blocking it maybe or maybe they just don’t open wide I don’t know (I’m a female 1st time even doing this crap)…so my question is should I just turn the stainless motor housing thing around to blow towards the black plastic exhaust??? No one mentions if the air should blow towards that way or if it even matters since it’s blowing in that recessed housing….just curious. Thank you!

When I placed my hand on what is supposed to be the exhaust side I could not feel any wind. The wiring seems correct. Black - black / green - copper / white - yellow
