HOW TO INSTALL A CLUTCH (VOLVO 740)

a little how to video i made when doing the clutch job on goldie

things to note:
- remove the slave cylinder before removing transmission, it is held in with a snap ring and snap ring pliers will be your best bet for removing it .
- when putting the transmission back in take your time and make sure everything is aligning properly , get a jack under it before it comes out completely , a transmission is not light weight.
- james didnt make a big enough hole in his beer can hence the slow shotgun
- learn how to use a clutch alignment tool before installing clutch
- the crank bolt is a 24mm and you will need to put a socket and breaker bar on it to remove pressure plate.
- it is best to get your flywheel machined , i didnt have the resources to do that and thats why we just scuffed it with the sanding disk.

That rear main seal is ridiculously clean. Also fuck those allen bolts. We've taken the clutch off two redblocks thus far and mutilated those things on both of them. I replaced them with regular hex head bolts on my 240.

Try look for a B230A if you wan't a durable one. Slow, but immortal. My favorite one too. Get one with a B230ET/FX if you want power. FT means low pressure turbo, ET means high pressure turbo. (T for turbo). FX, FD and FB has Diff camshaft/CR.

Ah your rear main seal is super tight no sign of oil at all!!! Hope the m46 holds up to that clutch. I have a feeling clutch kicks will kill it! Great vid koltan keep up the good work 👍🏻

also you dont have to screw back in the top 2 bolts for the gearbox housing the release bearing and pressure plate

hey man can you make a boost gauge installation video? got a 945 a few days ago. been really tempted to buying a boost gauge to see if the turbo still does it's job, but the truth is, i wouldn't be able to install one myself, due to me not finding enough good information/visuals on the internet.

I wish you'd made this video 3week ago. My DMF let go just before Christmas taking my clutch with it and I put the flywheel back on 1 bolt out so the car ran but like a dog meaning I had to do it all again (and then snapped a flywheel bolt, so abit of a nightmare altogether) Glad Goldie is back out skidding though, these old buses really love to slide.

very good question for you that I can't find online I have a 93 940 wagon sadly auto what parts car can I use to 5spd swap it? there's a few Volvo 240s around that are being parted but will the clutch cable and the pedal box all work in my wagon?

M46 from Volvo 740! 740 is the same as 940. I think the M47 from a 240 would work as well.

Drifts N' Lifts i been drive redblock everyday for 10 years. mostly without turbo. i like The 16v version. have you tried that? its really Nice. on snow i prefer without turbo. i live in my garage. i have tried to film som drifting movies sometimes but im suck with The camera. your movies are really Nice to watch . keep doing Them!

very easy , just two bolts , the two same bolts that hold the bellhousing onto the motor also hold in the starter

T5 are fwd if you didn't know that already, parts for converting it to rwd are more like rare

the t 5 comes from Volvo 850 or v70 and newer volvos. so he has to do a engien swap.

It's very easy to engine swap a T5 into a 740/940, people do it on a daily basis here in Sweden. If you know what you're doing you can swap it in and have it running in a matter of days.

"very easy"... You need the B5234T engine from 850 which is kind of rare, you basically need a whole 850 for the engine parts etc. You also need a 960 to take parts from, to then cut them and weld them again.. Trust me its not as easy as you want to have it.. It's extremely advanced and takes precision and a long time, also a lot of skill. The parts are also rare except for Sweden... I tried doing it here in Norway but nope, could not find a 960 with manual... Neither a B5234T in a 850 which was not buttfucked...
