Service tech here, that head is way too tight in the corner, this will be an issue if any components on the head unit ever need to be replaced. In the future I would try to leave a bit of clearance on the right side where power comes in so you can access and remove the boards if necessary

Nice instructional video, Some observations: drill your holes at a slight downward slope to the outside (the second hole is a sure way to get rainwater down the inside wall). Water does not run uphill. Pulling a vacuum with an uncapped Schrader valve is a nono. They are spring pressure and will open up; they are made to seal with inside pressure to push them closed. Attaching your vac gauge/micron gauge at the furthest point from your vacuum pump is better practice and eliminates that leaking schrader problem. Gas flow in a vacuum is so slow you have a higher reading on the far end of the system. Vacuum from the largest pipe port will evacuate even faster. It's why you use those fancy vacuum hoses with bigger diameters for faster vacuum. Still a tidy job, and it is better than what most do.

Not quite sure why u cut off the factory flare fittings for the shark bite style fittings. I only use the shark bite fittings if I'm in a pinch. The factory fittings will give u a superior connection.

Mitsubishi and Daikan are Japanese designed zoned HVAC systems. However, Daiken is assembled in Texas and was having serious quality issues when they moved their plant from Taiwan to the US. I chose to install a Mitsubishi system due to this issue of quality control. Mitsubishi has teamed up with Trane/American Standard in the US.

Thanks a lot for honest videos! A bit off this video, but thinking to move from central split ducted to package unit. I read on pros and cons but there is nothing on changing from one to another. As benefits I see 1. More reliable 2. Free space in basement 3. Does not required any training to install. So, would be great yo get your point

I love package units. I’m not sure that they are more reliable per say, but I love that it’s all contained to one space. Which means more space inside. And yes not having to have refrigeration and brazing skills is definitely a plus. If I had to choose between a split system and a package unit, I’d 100% pick a package unit 👍🏼

Are you referring to switching from a ducted mini-split to mini-split heads in each room? Or are you talking about moving from conventional ducted AC/gas heating to a mini-split (unducted) system? Is the free space coming from removing the ducts? Thanks!

Can solder be used to add to join more copper length to a mini split system?
@Oksobasically2
@Oksobasically2 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Make sure the female and male ends fit pretty snug with little to no gap. Make sure the solder used is meant for ac applications. Purge the system with nitrogen after the pressure test. Internal cleanliness of the lines is vital. Not even air can be in the lines when its time to start the unit up.

My rule of thumb to tighten a flare nut without a torque wrench is get it as tight as i can with my fingers then add 1/4 turn. Mini split i did this way 3 years ago diy its still going strong with nothing more than nice clean flares, no goop or other seals needed. A little insurance is nice, but having plastics in contact with refrigerant and oil seems like a recipe for failure in 10-15 years. They are just fragile in comparison to lead, brass, copper and silver. Personally i would really hope to get at least 30 years of service from equipment like this.

One thing i want point out. The unit is too close to service panel As it need 3 feet away from service panel. Look up NEC 110.26 it need to be 30 inches away minium from that service panel. It the first thing electrician learns in begining of National Electric code. If u ever have a meter disconnection and when u try to get your electric turn back on. They prolly will force owner to relocate the HVAC equipment. Reason for this. U domt want create a ground path while electricians or utilty company working on the panel.

You are incorrect as per an electrical inspector I consulted. I suggest you re-read 110.26. Three dimensions are to be considered. Width, Depth and Height of the "working space". The width. NEC 110.26(A)(2) states that “the width of the working space in front of the electrical equipment shall be the width of the equipment or 762 mm (30 in.), whichever is greater.” In addition, this work space shall permit at least a 90-degree opening of the panelboard door. The depth, that is the space directly in front of the electrical equipment shall be 900mm or 3 feet. The height, as per 110.26(A)(3) is “to remain clear and extend from the grade, floor, or platform to a height of 2.0 m (6 ½ ft) or the height of the equipment, whichever is greater.”

Why you always put the connections or flares to the wall? In case of leak you cant see the leak, cant pull the unit unless you uninstall 3/4 of the installation. Theese indoor units are super Easy to disassemble so you have Easy work space inside of the indoor unit and there is plenty of space for connections. In case of leak you just open the unit and check if the leak is there in 5mins.
