Had a Luxair for over 20 years only had 1 repair. Replaced it with a Bryant and had 1 A/C and 1 heating repair in less than 3 years. My house was more comfortable in the winter with the Luxair.

I just installed two soft-start units on my compressors so I can more easily use my whole-house generator. Those devices can add a bit of complexity to this setup but it's not too bad to figure out.

you can just stick the capacitor into the ground. It will go to ground.
@UtahDarkHorseСағат бұрын
Is it possible on the first system checked that you simply didn't have a good ground for the tool? I run across this alot on cars. Not sure that clipping onto that bolt "guaranteed a good ground". Just askin. I really live your videos. thanks for sharing the info.

I always recommend purchasing a package unit if the duct system is compatible or can be adjusted. This is the best bang for the buck.

$10 is an expensive capacitor. I suppose for an HVAC it's about right. I've never been asked to pay $2k for it! I have replaced it myself at a previous residence, since it was a recurring thing. But it also had other problems, turns out the intake duct was way too small for the size unit, which explains all the problems we had! (Vibration, motors, capacitors burning out, etc)

A quality installation company won't touch a homeowner bought equipment contract. Why should they if they are already making 40 percent on the equipment and for a good reason. Say the indoor coil you bought has a warranty problem and the install company is halfway through the job when they find it. They now have to finaggle time and labor to meet a problem that they are not responsible for. If it's a piece of equipment they sell they most likely have a warranty solution on hand and the job may slow but still finishes in the time frame of the contract. Yes some contractors are ripoff but a quality contractor and I spent almost 40 years in the business half of those years as a contractor, will always be the best choice in buying any contract able home service.yes, there's a reason you pay that 40 percent just like you pay the 40 percent on any other part or piece of equipment.

There are not many contractors that keep new units in stock plus contractors rely on the same QC process from the factory, meaning they don’t test they just unbox and install If a contractor refuses to do an install on customer purchased equipment then it’s just greed, only thing needed is a labor only agreement HVAC business is dirty and scammy

U made a point that’s why I was only getting 120 for my dryer I was putting it on one pole . Then later on I put it in the right place and always getting the same problem until I removed the fuse and put it back on and it worked perfectly thank you and have the same panel ge

Ive seen a scam in investigation on channel 8 Tampa FL, and 10 out of 10 HVAC contractors tried to make $600- $2000 dollars from a purposely disconected control wire at the condensor unit. 10 out of 10!!! Im an electrician and i don't trust you guys anymore. I test my own and tested my neighbors and found a bad capacitor. Tge ac guy said needed a transformer for $300 + labor and a capacitor for $90 plus labor. I put the capacitor for $27 cost and the transformer wasn't needed. Bad ware joint in the air handler. The system was supposed to be undrr warranty. The company was ARS of Orlando. They just estimated a UV germ killer light for $900. And clean a blocked condensate line for $250 !!! I put my vacuum on it free!

How long do we have to let it dry before using the ac again?

Get a 1/4' nut driver, open the box on your condensing unit, read the rating on the capacitor and order the right one. We're talking about a $50 difference, when using the 'universal' capacitor, which is just ridiculous. (You can buy an extra spare, to keep on hand, and still save $50.) If you have the ability to change a capacitor, you have the ability to order the correct one. While you're at it, buy a spare contactor, too. Even if you don't end up needing them, the next owner will, and he'll really appreciate it. I know that these universal caps are great for techs, because they don't have to keep 15 different caps on their truck, but then, they also have to pass that extra $60, plus markup, on to the customer. No bueno. Besides, when you go to check the ratings on your capacitor, it will give you an excuse to clean the condenser, and check for any potential problems, which you probably haven't done, since you moved in. I can barely believe that some company would make these caps, and I'm in shock that a tech would actually recommend them. I'm also having a hard time, believing that companies are charging $2,000+ for a condenser cap. At least, not the honest ones. It's one thing to be greedy, but that's robbery.

I got charged $500 to replace and recharge the system. Never again, I was told the part cost $110.
@charleshines21423 сағат бұрын
You also mentioned how there are some out there who would do the capacitor and charge $2000 for it. You gotta wonder what sort of creative things they did on the invoice to pull that con off. Or maybe if it is someone who doesn't know much about the system or doesn't appear to maybe they would just try selling the capacitor hoping not to get caught in their lies. I know not everyone pulls those shenanigans. Think about it the one who charges less is more likely to get more calls because of good work and honest pricing. Maybe they have to do a bit of markup on the parts they sell along with making enough on labor.

Off topic…..I took a small engine repair class in high school. We use to “charge” the little condenser from the engine by plugging in an electrical cord and with the bear end, touch one wire to the body of the condenser and the other to the wire coming out of the condenser. Holding it by the insulated part of the wire, get someone’s attention and toss it to them. When they catch it, and they touch both the body and the wire they get a pretty good zap……yeah, I know, but we were high school kids.
@skyfinancellc95384 сағат бұрын
Thank you for this valuable video! Now a question: you pulled the wires off the capacitor and *then* you shorted the leads. That was a bit dangerous, no? Would it be OK to short the leads of the capacitor first, and *then* pull the wires off of the capacitor? Thank you.
@tedyoh73944 сағат бұрын
Yeah......the proper way to clean is inside out, the AC coil is bascially built like an air filter.......first the tiny particals, say pollen, get caught in the fins, then the dust and dirt builds up next....then comes grass clippings......you get the idea.....inside out is the proper way to clean a coil.... (coming from the son of a HVAC contractor with 54 years experience)

Fantastic. Thanks so much. I've seen so many people in my community ripped off with whole systems replaced for these kind of minor repairs. One friend had her system replaced when it was just her water drain that was plugged. She didn't understand so they took advantage of her. I got there too late. Very troublesome industry. Awesome information, well done.

Thanks for doing this video, it helped me. I ordered one of these larger opening valves and at the same time I ordered the Sediment Buster to help with the flushing process. I turned the incoming water off and then went and opened all the hot water faucets and then drained the water tank. Then I changed the water valve to the bigger one and then put the Sediment Buster on to see what was coming out of the water heater when I turned the incoming water back on in order to flush the water tank. This worked well, you could see what was coming out. I flushed it out three of four times. Meaning I turned the incoming water on, injected air and let the water heater fill up most of the way, then turn off the incoming water and let the water completely drain out and then do it again. I am so glad to have had the larger valve to help with allowing the water to come out faster and larger particles to come out. Here is the link to the Sediment Buster. sedimentbuster.com/product/sediment-buster/?srsltid=AfmBOopampMOn_v7zJXoeHGmDKFFNWVVqKdTz_--mAbxWTenA7jhSB4uLIk

I did one full year of research on Goodman before buying one, only to find out why the indsutry bashes the brand constantly. I have never regretted it, and in 21 years of service I've had to replace the compressor (not made by Goodman) and one motor start capacitor. I am the educated customer, perfectly capable of installing the equipment myself, thus it's impossible to beloney me into believing manure. I only want cold air, and the performance of this Goodman has been as good as any other for thousands less. My research revealed that the only thing wrong with a Goodman is it puts huge dents in the contractor's profits, thus why they get so much bashing. Where price is the biggest consideration, Goodman is always the leader, and they are in complexes, and every other imaginable place. The industry just can't resist beating the h*ll out of the brand, and it's totally undeserved. If you choose Goodman you're not paying for their advertising and fluff and other things that done contribute one iota to the air temp in your home. GO GOODMAN you won't regret it.

The excess tubing on the mini split should not be left in vertical loops as shown here, if tubing is not trimmed to length, it should be looped horizontally so as to not act as an oil trap.

I don't understand how the Amperage measurements weren't the same unless the unit has a variable speed compressor. In my mind most Air Conditioners should draw the same amperage while running. The compressor is either on or off. In this case, the Mister could actually help the air conditioner to run less as the Mister helps dissipate the heat in the coils thereby saving money.
