You mentioned to turn the motor over to get the distributor to drop in place if the slot doesn’t line up. The oil pump is driven by the distributor nothing else and the distributor runs off the cam. If you turn that motor and the distributor gear is not all the way in place it can bind and damage that distributor gear. The way I have always done this is taking the distributor back out take a long flat head screw driver and turn the oil pump rod until you get it where you need it.

#1 intake and exhaust rockers should be a tad loose also on TDC.. the tang on the oil pump should I believe be pointing at #5 exhaust rocker.. good video!

Im confused..your rotor is pointing down the center of the intake...shouldn't it be pointing st cylinder 1 on the motor?

As long as the rotor points towards the #1 post in the cap itself (before advancing it) you’ll be fine.

Just swapped out my cap and coil pack on my 350 and now it’s just cranking with no start, i went back twice to check my connections and it all seems correct and I followed the diagram to wire up the plugs with the firing order. Do I need to follow this procedure? Or is it only if the distributor was completely removed?

Was it running before the coil and cap change? If so then you’ve got a bad coil most likely.

I thought balancer needs to be at 10 degrees btc and rotor pointing directly at the #1 plug on the cap before firing the motor?

Yes but you still have to know which stroke you’re on. Just popping in the distributor without checking if it’s on the compression stroke you’d have a 50/50 chance of being 180 out.
