When you put nuts or bolts on an exhaust system, do never ever use oil. Some copper grease will do the trick and prevent the nut/bolt from seizing the threads as it works with the temperature and at a point rusts. If you don't have a stainless exhaust, never use stainless bolts. One may be thinking this is a smart trick to prevent things from rusting, on the contrary...the mild steel part will rust even faster due to a galvanic reaction. So copper grease is your friend...goes for the backside of the brake pads too.

Thank you for all the good work . Here all you need to do is just fit a plate to close the hole between the pipe that is coming from the exhaust , and the egr , ypu can still leave the vac hoses connected where there , no need to disconnect them . thanks

stuck open egr are probably the most common problem keeping it clean would be nice but on some models its just never done and once it is taken out it is replaced IF cars would run like they wear originally intended to use alcohol then no more egr problems

It doesn't recycle unburned gas btw. An incomplete combustion would not be very good. The EGR is meant to cool the cylinder temperature which reduces NOx by introducing a small amount of burned gas.

@SkyEnterprise-hy4fm That it does, typically on idle or light throttle as power is not needed. An EGR would typically close anything past light throttle. So when EGR is actually functioning it's doing it for emissions purposes. Admittedly it's a crap way of reducing NOx because of things like carbon buildup which is why AdBlue systems are better at this.

I did this today, I got a loss of power all the time now, and I can feel limp mode come on too, its like the turbo is trying to spool up all the time, ive noticed my turbo is hardle spooling at all at low rpm though it normally did.

hi mate, firstly great vid it helped me immensely. Secondly, the elbow pipe you replaced, mine is not a reduced version. That clip you released from near the egr, i have the same clip on both sides of the pipe. I am having problems as the pressure keeps popping it off at the bottom end (not egr side). It seems the retaining clip is not holding it properly. I was wondering if you did a silicone pipe that would be big enough to go over the top of the plastic so it can be Jubilee into place? Pretty much sod all. small amount of pick up at low revs. but if its clean. i doubt you will notice anything what so ever... Oh and if you don't want your engine management light on every day. Then get a custom map

Christian Grech I've done the easier version on this, just blank the egr exhaust pipe. Wasn't expecting any noticable difference however I have experienced a very slight increase in power and throttle response and about 4 mpg better fuel economy. not to mention the intake pipe was caked in soot which effectively narrowed the inlet by about half the diameter.

Egr does not recirc unburnt games to be reburnt. It is for emissions is just recycles the exhaust gases which goes through a cooler which is supposed to reduced the exhaust gases. Instead of putting out all of the exhaust gases out at once increasing emissions. Exhaust gases are not flammable and can not be burned again. Also you showed block off on the manifold but what about on the turbo? Seems you missed one. Also you should remove the egr cooler to make room and block off the other end.

Nice one bro. I did a video on this just weeks ago... I film on my phone, memory got full half the footage went onto sd card which became corrupt so lost a sick video! Was gutted at thay, but glad to see you covered this. As for the ASV, taking it out does cause a more agricultural shut down but it's pretty minor and well worth it for the car running better. Runaway engine is a pretty rare problem and can be stopped by stalling car in higher gear anyway.

I can understand why you would delete the egr as it chokes the intake over time. Hope your turbo is good though as otherwise this pd has become a ticking time bomb. The shudder valve is in the egr. I wouldn't want to run a diesel without one personally. My 330d hasn't got one and it always makes me anxious.

For those who don't know, a runaway is when something happens that allows the motor to run on its own oil, until it runs out of oil/and or destroys itself by over revving. For example, say the turbo shaft seal fails, allowing the motor to inhale enough oil to run through the intake tract. Turning off the injectors does nothing to stop the motor at this point, the only way to shut it off is to block the airflow into it, or just use the clutch to stall it. So the shudder is not there to stop a runaway engine, but is there to make turn off smoother, I personally do not care much for it.

I did this but blanked off the vacuum hose to the EGR which is the same, essentially.. my engine ran like a box of frogs and power was down a load. I took the ball bearing out of the vacuum hose and the car went back to normal. I don't like the idea of all the crap going back into my engine but I've later read that the EGR only opens at low boost intervals into the intake and is not permanently open, hence the ECU tells the EGR when to open and close.. So, the plot thickens!

Car will need ECU remapped too...ECU needs to know that the EGR valve has been removed. I have a 130PD TDI passat with a similar engine to this one. It's been going into limp mode for the past year. After pulling my hair out for the past year trying to get to the root of the problem, I've been told now that its bacause the EGR valve was knackered. Even although the EGR was physically blanked off with plates here when I got a new turbo put on, this isn't all that's required of an EGR delete...the ECU needs to know its either no longer functioning or has been removed.

or ... you can use Coke can. You have to flatten the can, dismantle the outlet of the EGR (the place where the exhaust gases are mixed with the air intake). adjust the screw holes in the metal plate and mount so that the lamina blinded the hole. If someone is afraid that the blade is too thin, you can use a few layers. Zero cost, and 15 minutes of work.

you will need a remap for it to work properly as your model most likely has an electronic egr valve, meaning the ecu is picking up a fault saying something is wrong with the egr (missing)

Also oiling orings is a good practice however on orings that have not friction when installing does not require oil. Oil is used to make sure the oring doesn't come off or tear when pushing it onto something in this case it was just going onto a mating surface. But it doesn't hurt it by oiling. There are parts that you absolutely can't oil i.e. Teflon or Kevlar oil seal for the camshaft unless it has a spring in the rear of the seal. You didn't do anything wrong just food for thought.

Vacuum operated EGR just clean it with oven cleaner using a toothbrush then block off the vacuum hose no parts required

Destroyed my 1.9 09 tdi pd bxe golf doing this due to lack of knowledge didnt get it mapped out 1.9s come with no dpf yet caused my turbo to explode due to back pressure from the egr blank and broken con rods when an egr system is designed the compression ratios of the engine are taking into place with the egr on the engine u remove that ur effecting engine ratios the timing has due be altered to this to match the new ratios after the delete otherwise be bent valves aswell its more than a 20 pound kit i can tell u from experience and research egr needs mapped it and asv sensor it will cause a draw if not mapped out either the timing has be altered all the hassle and money for very little benefit cleaner manifold and cleaner air

93ajay93 whenever you open your bonnet, and remove your engine cover, the EGR valve is just above the front bonnet catch, connected to the inlet manifold.
