This video was a huge help. I'm a newbie at electric work, I've replaced existing light fixtures before but I'm looking to add an extra fluorescent light in my basement and this answered all my questions.

Another good video, just a fyi, when butting fixtures like this together there are slots on the ends of the fixtures that you can use the end piece you're not using and slide it into one fixture end and the new fixture will slide into it making a solid fixture to fixture connection avoiding having to knock out the 1/2" knockout on the end. I would also suggest toggle bolts for anchoring ceiling mounted fixtures as ez-anchors are not rated for ceiling drywall applications per manufacture only wall.

Awesome video. So what if it’s 2018!? While I agree that LEDs are great, there is no problem with using fluorescents. I’ve been working in my garage for years under two regular light bulbs and my auto repair light. Going to fluorescent is a huge improvement, low cost and widely available bulbs.

@HouseImprovements ... NICE VIDEO. THANX FOR UR HARD WORK. When is it ok to hanq somethinq with Only a drywall anchor & when is it necessary to drill into a 2x4 stud beam? How Heavy does the object have to be in order to require to be hunq on a stud? I ask kuz i need to hanq x8 Flourescent T8 Fixtures in a shop close toqether within a 5' x 10' rectanqle on the DryWall Ceilinq in a home built in the 1980's. I want to simply install them all with simple drywall anchors next to eachother but wonder if the Combined weiqht of 4-8 Flourescent T8 Fixtures (approx 7 Lbs each) is too much for a sinqle drywall sheet & risks collapse/breakinq,of the drywall from the weiqht of the liqhts? ANYBODY KNOWLEDGABLE PLEASE REPLY SOON.

Thank you Shannon, I was looking for something like this and as always you delivered. I have a question regarding tapping off an existing line and I hope this makes sense. I'm going to be using a daisy chain connection but this thought came up and I was just hoping you could clarify it for me. So, I'm installing four 4ft fluorescent lamps in my garage ceiling. I'm removing an old lamp and tapping off its line. I'm placing 2 of the new lamps 3ft left, off-center from the ceiling and 8ft apart from each other and then, I'm mirroring the other 2 on the right. My question; since I've got 2 lamps on either side of the ceiling, instead daisy chaining them all (and I don't know if this is proper or if it even makes sense) could I create a pigtail off the existing line to feed each side, individually, its own line (I guess effectively creating a Y connection at the end of the existing line)? Like I said i hope this makes sense.

I got same light fixture, am I able to shorten up the the fixtures by spotting it in the middle (making it 4 feet long rather than 8), what would I do with the wires for the other half if possible?

Instead to deal with all the loose wire, do you think is a good idea to use electrical tape to keep it all the wires together? and also do you think after you put the yellow cap wire you should use a electrical tape to keep it secure? Thank you Good video.

How many of these can you safely string together without loosing power down the line. I'm talking about the current does it get weaker as you go down? Are there any electrical hazards to putting 3 of these together on the same power line?

How to open the cover to access the ballast / wires chamber? You showed how to close it near the end of video by pushing a tab into it. Need to know how to open it to access ballast of my old light so that I can convert it to LED. Thanks.
@HouseImprovements

Most of them you just squeeze the cover to unclip from the tab, some you need to undo a nut or two

I thought you younger kids abandoned "old fashioned ways" ! It is true that "Manufacturers of insulated twist-on wire connectors suggest you not hand-twist the wires together before applying the connector. The wires will bond properly if inserted straight, but you risk making a poor connection if you pre-twist."

Would be much more efficient/cost effective for most people to just buy an LED fixture without a ballast. WIth a ballast you are essentially converting the voltage/current twice and those conversion LED's wont last as long as a proper LED fixture.

Great video and thanks for the info, but those light fittings are very poorly made, really bad machining and finish on the details, to be honest that extends to the entire housing electrical system in the US, tech from the 1800's. Can't come to term with the morette connection... Wago.

Well yeh eventually, but that's not what the title says. Also, why put up clunky fittings with unrequired ballasts when you can just rig up some lightweight LED strips? Video makes no sense.
@cgriesemer

If you already have pre-existing fluorescent fixtures, "just throwing up some LED strips" would look tacky AF.

I couldn't be bothered to watch the whole video, but he appeared to be putting up new fluorescent fittings, and then sticking new LED tubes in them. I'd suggest anyone upgrading their lighting just rip out the F.fittings and install slim LED ones from the start. F.fittings were never made to look pretty, and they were always dust and fly traps.
