Thank you so much for taking the time to show us. I've never changed a fluorescent light set and since mine in the laundryroom just died so I will tackle this project myself taking all the necessary precautions.

I’m currently installing a prismatic red light and a light fixture that I took down out of my garage has a white wire be a copper wire and a red wire the new fixture wires are white black and yellow which wires do I connect to what?
@josephpeacock71172 ай бұрын
There seems to be either confusion or disagreement about the terms flush mount and surface mount. As a journeyman electrician the installation shown would be called a surface mount.

How do I wire these led lights. A hot and neutral on each end dont work. I got 120 tubes that will not light
@chris233842 жыл бұрын
I purchased a similar product and the instructions say to position the wire connections back into the electrical box. However, I noticed you have connections inside the fixture. Just curious why you did it this way and is it a safe practice. Thank you

Question: I've had my entire ceiling rebuilt over the past month, with new framing/joists, new insulation, and tomorrow I am having new drywall put up. Can I mount these directly to the joists through the drywall, and what screws would you recommend for that? My new joists are 1.5" wide and spaced at 14" to 16" (16 inches from the center of each joist) apart. I have a Tavool electronic stud finder I can use to find them once the sheetrock goes up, but I'm going to ask the contractor to mark the studs on the drywall if he can. I kind of don't want to mount my lights to the drywall. Thanks!
@EverydayHomeRepairs3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you could mount directly to the floor joists. If the standard mounting holes don't align exactly to your spacing you could drill 1 hole in the housing and use 1 of the standard mounting holes to get everything spaced exactly as you need it. In terms of screws, this video goes over my favorite screw for this type of project. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqvXiIqvZ6xqo6s Best of luck!

My garage has the long bulbs and I would like to change it to the LED light. The only catch is my garage ceiling is concrete. Can my drill bit drill through or will I ruin it if I try?
@EverydayHomeRepairs4 жыл бұрын
You can drill and attach the light to concrete but you would need a hammer drill as a normal drill is not the best at drilling into concrete and a masonry drill bit. This video is of a different topic but I show how to drill into and secure the vinyl shutter to brick. You would use the same approach for your LED lights. Let me know if you have any follow up questions. 👍

Nice video. Gives me the confidence to do it myself. With the faux ceiling gone, have you thought about raising your cabinets to the ceiling? I'm fixing to do that. Plus I'm also fixing to replace my stove vent hood with a microwave vent hood combo. Just a few suggestions for future videos for you. 👩🔧

Hey Carol, If I was going to swap out the cabinets I would consider 36" high or 42" high depending on the clearance. 42" are a bit hard to reach but really increase the storage.

@@EverydayHomeRepairs true. I wanted to keep the cabinets and increase the countertop space. I'm tall and would store holiday stuff on the upper shelves.

Good info! I plan to change the two ceiling fluorescent in the kitchen which are both controlled by one switch. I haven't taken them down yet, but I wonder if they are wired in series, would there be any different issues with the wiring?
@EverydayHomeRepairs3 жыл бұрын
Nope, they are almost certainly on the same circuit and your wiring should be similar to the video. Best of luck on the project!

Great video. This is my first time trying to install the same light fixture. Couple questions. 1. How did you get the fixture to hang while you were taking measurements before screwing into ceiling? and 2. Was there a bare copper wire coming out of the ceiling? and if not, then the green wire is therefore not connected to anything? Thank-you so much.
@EverydayHomeRepairs4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, I just passed the wiring through the center grommet and they bent the wires around the edge which was enough to hold the fixture in place. You are correct that this condo's wiring does not have ground at this location so I did not connect the ground from the light fixture to anything. Best of luck on the install!

Great video! I am inspired to take this project on in my own kitchen. I have a few questions: (1) Is this a disposal fixture? Granted LEDs will last a while, but when it fails you have to replace the whole thing. Would a fixture that accepts LED tubes be easier to maintain (and greener)? (2) That looked like a lot of wire tucked away in the fixture. Do you recommend trimming the wire instead of wrapping it all up there? You could always extend with a wire nut/Wago (not ideal so measure twice, cut once). (3) Do you have any hints on physical placement? For example, should I center going down the middle of the galley-like kitchen (long with cabinets and built-in appliances on both side) or should I center with respect to the entryway (door frame with pocket)? BTW, what is the typical failure mode of this light? One LED at a time? A whole strip? Th whole fixture?

Thanks, How did you manage to have the fixture stay up while you measured? Did you use the wires to hold the fixture up?
@gibfen1235 Жыл бұрын
Two things you did not hightlight enough is that this is NOT a fluorescent bulb fixture . With this if a strip goes bad you have to replace the entire fixture. Also love your screws to mount to the ceiling but only useful if the fixture has holes that allow one to stick in screw head in AND then slide to get to a place to tighten.

You mention that you can push down to release the light cover, but I don't see how you did it. I bought a home with what looks like a very standard builder-grade LED light in the kitchen and I want to take it down as I have a much better LED light for that area.
@EverydayHomeRepairs4 жыл бұрын
Hey Shawn, it is more of a push the cover up which allows you to slide the cover in 1 direction and then that will clear the opposite side from the housing allowing you to take the cover off.

Most, if not all, of the newer LED fixtures are light color selectable, from 2700K to 5000K or more. There is a three position slider switch inside fixture to select between three color temperatures. I have a 15” round edge-lit fixture that has a fourth setting so you can select any of the three color temperatures by quickly turning the switch on/off until you get the one you want. The fixture will default to the last color temperature you selected when operated normally until you change color temperature again. Mine is even dimmable. The issue about higher color temperatures (4000K and higher), is that bluer light blocks the production of melatonin in the body that can disrupt sleep. Just don’t be in an environment with bluer light a couple hours or so before bedtime. The cooler color temperatures are fine during the day when you are awake, and it makes people more energetic. It’s best to spend your evening hours before bed under warmer color temperature light like 2700K to 3000K, which is what most LED bulbs labeled “warm white” or similar. The warmer color temperature light does not disrupt the production of melatonin in the body and therefore, does not disrupt sleep. As mentioned above, bluer colored light is fine during the day when you are awake.
