Huge flaw in this otherwise great tool: Not all timber is cut exactly to size so the height pin is not going to be accurate. The use of the height pin, let's say for a 2x12 as in this video, is assuming that EVERY joist you install is 12 inches deep. This is almost never the case.

No good. Would never buy it. Joist hangers go on after the joist is toe nailed to the ledger. Everybody knows that!

What we do is put the joist first and let the labor install the hangers after much faster than this

It's nice but first it's more for someone who do a lot of deck and second.....not all the wood have the same dimensions, so am not sure about this tool

This makes no sense, It will never be accurate because wood may not come the exact size displayed on the "Hanger-Buddy", best way is to just cut a small 6 inch piece of the joist or wood you're planning to install and use that as a template when installing the hangers.

Unless you're running a box beam you'll have that issues with the joists being 1/8-1/4 off so you'll need to plane the board or measure every single joist while.installing. it should have a gauge to raise of lower it but at that point it won't save you any time.

And what do you do with the lumber dimension differences??? Shim and plane every piece?

How do you compensate for joists that are not the same height (off by 1/8" or 1/4")? I see these all the time. This device would have those joists to high compared to the rim joist or ledger board by that 1/8" to 1/4".

There are a couple tools out there like this that all have the same fatal flaw and this is just as Andrew asks. Mother nature and mills don't make joist all the same size that that variance in today's composite decking market translates to the decking boards which makes the surface look uneven. I find it interesting that replies from hanger buddy are quick when they are asked where it can be bought but non existent to a great question like this one. If you can't make a tool that is adjustable to compensate for the variance in board height then you should be prepared to answer the question above. There is no answer because the tool doesn't do it. That will prevent people from buying it. Do yourself a favor and realize that pulling just one joist hanger out will chew up more time than you saved. If it happens more than once well then you have a more useless tool than you did before you bought it...good luck.

What if the piece of wood go in there is not straight, it curve and that joints hanger is already nail in both side? Should i just nail on one side and left out the other side free for it to flare out to fit the curve?

Great concept but completely useless tool as lumber varies in width , a fatal flaw was not allowing adjustment to companstae for width differences ! I think that could have been easily incorporated into this tool ...

It does compensate for width, it's one of the first features he mentions. The height not being incremental is a big fail though

Those were joist hanging nails. He was using a joist hanger nail gun.

Cheap p rubbish for death-wish hit -lists.Made of metal strip like Bean Cans .Invest in the job done properly instead of relying on Botch job to save your preference for "A Englishman's home is his car-sale" And putting that much needed extra metal under the bonnet instead of your heath and safty outlook home. You could invest in cast-iron masonry ones hangers much better. But The joist ends going green thru the bricks is better. MAKING floor suports from scaffold metal ends is ridiculous. We take it that one to many builders fell of the scafhold And with the health and safety act now void because of there absence We have to think for ourselves. Fire brigade dislike them as well because the joists calapse because only 30mm of Nail holds them up. THEY WILL BE MAKING high-rise tower-block sky scrapers out if this next clapping like a Plan card model.A real gamble. Alas we are not all to blind to see.
