Thanks for checking it out, can't get much detail with a time lapse!

@@Bsmithbuilder It's almost like no one gives a damn about your time lapse and maybe they're here for information... Pretty sure no one in the history of existence has ever thought about let me look up an install of a microwave time lapse for entertainment purposes 😂

Does not work for me. Too many questions on the ductwork. How did you get it to magically align and how did it the 10x3 to majically be the correct length. My house had a 5” round ductwork and was offset from the mircowave. This was my second microwave after the original vent hood. I had to field modify the 10x3 to 6” to be 10x3 to 5” and shorten it for the 1’ high cabinet. Had to trim the existing 5” duct and purchase 5” flexible dryer aluminum vent rated for vent hoods from Amazon. I had to purchase a $40 duct crimping tool to reduce the pipe diameter and adapter down to fit the flex hose. To fit the 10x3 on the mircowave required the multitool to trim the cabinet to the max in the back. The multitool also trimed the vent pipe and adapter. A lot of aluminum foil duct tape to seal everything including the front microwave vents that leaked air and noise. The electrical, I updated with a duplex outlet in a metal handybox. I put vinyl tile on the bottom of the cabinet to cover up all the previous holes. It took two people to set the unit in place and was the easiest part. All things considered Lowes could not done the venting because it required special parts to be made for the vent. The manual said it required a 6” vent and the house had 5” metal through the roof. The only reason I can tell the reason for the 6” is the standard adapter is a 10x3 to 6” and I had to field modify it to a 5”. If I used a 6” to 5” standard adapter there would not be enough height in the cabinet.

We gutted the kitchen to the studs and started from scratch on this project. I ran the duct work before framing the bulk head above the cabinets. There are many pre-made ducts that can be bought but most installs require custom fabrication, even with carefully calculated designs. What you have described are typical issues that we run into all the time.

We upgraded our kitchen countertop and cabinets. We have a quartz backsplash where the back side of the microwave is supposed to hug the wall. Do I must install the metal bracket on my backsplash to support the microwave or is the overhead cabinet strong enough to support such a microwave with the two screws that will be inserted through the cabinet?

The metal bracket will hold the majority of the weight. Use a sharp masonry or glass bit to drill through, but make sure your attaching to a stud behind the quartz. The cabinet will not hold the weight of the microwave. Most stud finders with a “deep scan” feature will read through the quartz backsplash to find your wall studs. Hope that helps!

Hi i know nothing about this. What is that above the microwave? Thank you. And great work

Its duct work that runs to the exterior of the house. When you turn on the fan, it moves air from inside, through the duct to the outside of the house. Thanks for watching!

What is the tool you used to cut the cabinet ?

It’s a rotozip with a cut blade. It takes some practice to get comfortable with it, and its super loud but make fast work.

What is the distance between the bottom of the hood range and stove top?

I like to see around 18" between the microwave and range. It leaves room to use a large pot

I didn't know over the rand microwaves could be vented outside ours just discolores our ceiling
@Bsmithbuilder

Most microwaves have an option to either recirculate air or vent outside. You have to remove the unit and flip a plastic cover to block off the front exhaust and open the one made to hook to an exhaust duct. Hope that helps

@@Bsmithbuilder thank you!!!! how hard is it to run the ducting if I was going to add one after the fact
@Bsmithbuilder

Not bad if you have an attic area above your kitchen. You can exit the duct through a gable end or through the roof. If you don’t have access above the ceiling you’ll have to remove some drywall and possibly build framing around the duct
