Thank you so much for *_clearly_* showing how it's done. The mobile home seller who installed my skirting did a shoddy job. They just laid the bottom track right on the ground-level dirt. No footer boards, no flashing, nothing. It didn't take but a couple years for the ground shifting to cause the dirt under those tracks to loosen and all the skirting started coming apart. The little wild critters were like "Yippee, someplace warm to hide!" as they could easily dig their way in. Now here I am, having to reinstall the skirting myself. I don't mind DIY home maintenance, but I really hate fixing things caused by other people's lousy workmanship.

Pardon my ignorance but years ago when we got our mobile home, it was installed the same, on the ground with those long nails, lol. It was good for a while, but then I decided to opt for something underneath ( posts) because of the weed eating holes on the skirting.

Love this idea, half way done! I actually have similar underpinning with rounded 4x4's. Difference is i didn't use stakes, (mistake). We had hurricane Beryl come through and blew some skirting. Side note I had only done a line of bricks underneath the posts on half of installation, and those posts are in great condition compared to the ones left sitting on ground. Thanks for the video! Hoping to see the porch one soon!

Use treated landscaping timbers instead. They serve the same purpose for a fraction of the cost and they look better. I drill two holes at each end and drive rebar through for a strong hold.

thats how i do it but the 2 x6 i run a piece of flashing over it to color match it to the skirting so your not having to look at a 2x6 also if ran correctly it prevents water from sitting on too of the 2x6 kinda the same concept on houses

Need that with some different mods here in North Central Florida, SICK of that skirting that gets brittle & brakes, I'd want aluminum or steel at ALL 4 corners and maybe in between & maybe some DOWN into the ground to keep crap from digging under, just subbed

I'm redoing my wood siding because of this type of installation. Water gets behind and rots. Any wood on the ground rots don't matter what kind. It don't take long ether. This type of skirting will not meet fire codes and wind will tear it up. Use cement board or better yet metal. Preferably aluminum. Don't go alongside wall but rather under behind exterior siding. Think of the shingle effect. Plastic home don't hold up to wether well. Keeps me busy replaceing hail and wind damage along with wet rot.

You are right but the vinyl works just fine. And it does last long If u live in an Tornado area Just Don’t Buy Mobile homes or Get u a concrete building instead

When i do underpinning for mobile homes i do it just like this except i use rebar and fencing nails instead of the 2x2...never thought about doing it that way..i may try that the next time...only thing i would wonder about is would putting that treated lumber in the ground attract carpenter ants or termites?
@REVNUMANEWBERN Жыл бұрын
YEP wood INTO the ground INDEED draws the termites INTO the home, metal or aluminum at each corner & in between is best, I have SEEN the termites going from what's shown here into the home here in Florida

so the that 2 x 6 "In" the ground, can it be Trex instead of treated Wood?

I guess you can. Trex is only 1” with a rounded edge. May need to screw something else to it to keep channel from rolling

Where is the access door to be able to access the under side of the home for water lines,duct work, heat tape and such? Is that an extra charge opportunity for you? I even had an electrical outlet installed under the home right next to the access door to plug in the heat tape. Un-plug for summer, plug in for winter. Easy peasy money saver.

I've been living in my home for over 20 years now and the people who set up my home did not do anything like this at all my skirting is raggedy and has been falling apart ever since we've been staying in our home. I've wish I've would've known this was the way it was supposed to have been done but my husband and I were young and we were fortunate time home buyers back in 2000 and now our home is falling apart because the skirting wasn't put on properly 😢
