How to install a New Construction window on a stucco wall

I did a new construction window just like you did, except after I cut the hole with the masonry saw, a neighbor who was in construction for 50 years told me to take a chisel and break up all the clean-cut edges. If not he said it will crack down the clean-cut lines. I have no idea if this is true, but I did what he said. Thank you for the video, it was really done well!

That’s how you do it! Got to be a mason too, doing stucco windows , I lived in San Diego for 33 years, all stucco houses, now I live in big bear, no stucco all wood siding with wood trim in and out, no retro fit up here all nail fin and some block frame…. Great vids!!! Odale vato 🙃

This is not the right way to install window and patch stucco. Caulking a small strip of paper to edge of cut and window will fail. Not chipping back stucco and tying in and nailing lath to existing will cause a crack at the joint in time. Just google or youtube waterproof retrofit windows in stucco and don't make this mistake.

True, the window was flashed no better than the existing, the lath should be lapped, & chipped edges rather than cut would be a better adhesion for the new stucco... All that being said, that window may not have a valid warranty, but will likely hold up better than the one it replaced. It is near impossible to get a solid waterproofing onto 60 year old tar paper. My 1971 waterproofing has flashing tape inside the paper only, nothing around the frame, nothing above or below square aluminum frames with no weepholes. New windows have internal moisture control, & will channel water out away from the waterproofing membrane.

Nice job…I did the same for the whole house and it looks fine…in 10 years I haven’t had any leaks…I only have one window left to do…it is an odd size( dumb size) not only that but it is the kitchen window and the sill is part of the countertop which will be installed after I take care of the window….so most likely I have to order the window …

Do you have to put a drip cap over the top of this type of window when installed in stucco without any trim or pop outs? I think you did an amazing job and you make it look so easy. I'm about to have someone do this to my windows in place of wood trim, but I'm really scared about water. There is a roof overhang all around the house, but not sure that's all that protective. It looks to me like you didn't do a drip cap.
