Thanks. Good starting point. Once I found the Samsung Magician Software and got it to run (error messages in the beginning, turns out Win 11 does not like the software to be started from the download folder, weird!) I installed the new SSD in M.2 format after locating the spot on the motherboard where to put it. Restarted the computer, started the Samsung software, defined to migrate from the old SATA SSD with 250 MG to my new M.2 SSD with 1 TB. It took about 20 minutes to clone Win 11. Then a reboot again into the UEFI Bios to change the boot drive. Done. Took me less then an hours to quadruple data space ...

thanks for this guide. As a lay person, I found this very helpful with clear images and instructions covering everything. Gives me the confidence to try the disk swap out on my own PC. Update: now done the swap using this approach, worked first time 👏👏

Does this work the same way in a situation where I am using a external HDD to backup files from an old computer, to a new one? If it makes things easier, how do I avoid copying the OS too, but just keep all my installed programs so that i can then send them to the new computer? I work with music as well and searched a lot, but couldn't find anything else online that fit my situation so well. This video is a lifesaver, thank you.

What an excellent video thank you. My current SSD wont accept window updates as it says there is a lack of space, so time for an upgrade and your video popped up so again thank you

cloning windows is a BAD idea if you are changing from a regular SSD to an M.2. The graphics and some other drivers are dependent on the install location + drive port and will cease to function when you boot the new drive. I just experienced this myself, whereupon my new drive with cloned windows 10 just boots to an unusable black screen + cursor.

How did you fix this issue? this happened to me too. It goes to my desktop for a while, but nothing is usable and then it just goes to the black screen again.

It might not take 2 to 3 hours to clone, it very much depends on the read rate. It can be 10 minutes to 3 hours depending on the drive and how many files. Great video 👍

Will the new ssd be formatted when migration process start or do I have to format the new one first before doing the transferring?

Is it possible to do this with nvme? I have an nvme ssd for my os and a 4tb hdd for my gaming. To play starfield I gotta upgrade my ssd. to have enough space for more than just my OS. I'd like to move the os to my HDD, install the new nvme and then transfer it back.
@BenoniTech Жыл бұрын
Why do two transfers? If you only have a single NVME and cant do a direct transfer to the new one, you can always buy an external NVME USB3 encloser. Place the new NVME in the encloser. Do the transfer. Then swap NVMEs. The you could use the old NVME inside the encloser as a backup drive or whatever you want after you wipe windows from it (format)

But ilok licenses on HDD?? Not works on new ssd?
@BenoniTech2 жыл бұрын
All of my iLok Licenses are on a physical key, so no issues for me. I can't say for certain if the authorizations will copy over or not if you use the Computer option. They may, but what I would do is simply de-activate all iLok licenses from the Computer before you clone. All you need to do is grab all the licenses and drag them to your Account name in the ILM. My other plugins that use a computer based authorization all still worked, but your results may vary. For something like Waves, you can quickly move the license back to your account before cloning, just incase. My Plugin Alliance plugins seemed to work just fine. As did all the stuff in Native Instruments Komplete 14 CE. But, if anything goes wrong, its not really a big deal since you still have the old drive. Worse case scenario is you have to put the old drive back in, de-authorize your plugins, put the new SSD back in, and authorize. I didn't want to go into that too much in the video since it would take alot of time and 99.9% of folks who watch this don't use things like iLok or any audio plugins. But it is something to consider if you are like us and have hundreds of licenses for all kinds of plugins. In my experience, the majority of things just work. But there's no problem in de-authorizing things before you clone and then re-auth on the new SSD. And again, you still have the old drive, so you won't lose anything. 👍👍
@BartekEVH2 жыл бұрын
@@BenoniTech Yes, I think it's better to de-authorize HDD licenses first. Also I have a USB ilok. :) But many people today have PC licenses.

Running in to a small issue. I migrated everything from my original ssd drive to my new ssd, even windows.. everything loads faster, computer is more zippy. Ran a diagnostic scan and the drive is in good condition. All around great. Even made the new ssd my boot drive but when I load games, my pc crashes and does a quick restart. Any suggestions?

Run a Check Disk and repair mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6234/~/how-to-use-the-check-disk-tool-to-repair-your-hard-drive Check windows update for new drivers. Depending on your computer, there may be a built in app that updates things like BIOS and driver. If so, use it, If not, check the manufacturer website for updated BIOS and drivers for your motherboard. Check Device Manager and see if you have any exclamation marks (!) on any device, and try to fix it if you do. Check the manual for your PC to make sure your new drive is compatible with your motherboard.
