If you are connecting to a factory radio and "tapping-in" for signal, the JBL BassPro Nano will turn on when an audio signal is played over the speaker wires. With this type of install you will not need to run RCA cables or the 12-volt turn on lead. Many powered subwoofers (not only the JBL BassPro Nano) will support this feature when connected with speaker-level inputs.

@crutchfield Жыл бұрын
We do not recommend only tapping into one rear speaker for the audio. The reason you tap into both a left and a right channel is to ensure that the subwoofer gets the bass, no matter which side of the sound stage it comes from. For example, a bass guitarist could be be standing on the left side in some bands, or the right side in other bands. Sometimes, they walk around while playing so the bass moves from the left to right channel.

I am putting it under the passenger seat to keep as much functionality in the rear hatch as possible. I suppose I could have gone w/the JBL BassPro Hub, but I didn't. You'll want to install the in-line fuse very close to the battery - less than 6" from the battery is best.

The concern with having a fuse not near the battery is that you'll have unprotected powered wire running the whole length of the wire in the vehicle. Ideally, when the fuse blows due to high current or short, the wire should cut power where it is safest, which is always at the source of voltage.

Great video! I recently installed an Alpine amp with a Crutchfield purchased LCi2 Pro and R2-W12 and it went really well. First time using the posi-connectors by your site's recommendation...very cool. After building a box over the weekend and running some tests, I'm baffled at JBL's decision to crossover the sub signal at 60hz in the '23 Camry XSE. Is there a product you could recommend that could "detune" that signal so I can run an 80hz cross via my installed amp? Hours of reading forums has me at only two options -- tap into a front door speaker wire (at the stock amp), or purchase a DSP. There's very little literature on JBL's "premium" Toyota systems, that I'm left wondering if there's a legitimate way to access the tuning settings on either the amp or HU through a backdoor with a 3rd party device. Wishful thinking?

It's a Captain's choice situation here. @@crutchfield my car is a mercedes gla 180 2019. New speakers are the focal pc 165v for front and rear including tweeters. Sub is a focal i sub active. There is plenty space under the enclosed foam part and the boot liner is probably 1 cm thick! I just hate how my rear seat vibrates as my focal i sub active is mounted to it and the gain is set mid way, bass boost off, subsonic 37hz, low pass filter 95hz. Also another question. Is it common for new speakers to sound not great but after a break in period they gradually get better? I have tuned the sub amp - focal i sub active 8 inch and believe i have got the settings right.

I wondered how these compact subs were anchored. Showing the addition of the Velcro strips and being attached to the cargo area's carpet cleared that up. Unfortunately, in the back of our 2015 Buick Enclave with the third row seats collapsed, we have a WeatherTech liner that covers the entire cargo area plus collapsed third row seats. Velcro is not going to work on that liner. :(
@crutchfield Жыл бұрын
They have provisions for mounting in place using screws. That is likely the only way to secure one in place when velcro is not an option.
@Nevermind913 Жыл бұрын
Most velcro that you buy comes with both the hook and the loop sides of the velcro with adhesive backing on both. You could clean the rubber liner with something like rubbing alcohol, stick one side of the velcro to that, and stick the other side to the amp.
@crutchfield Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea too!
@allmycarsisbroke Жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? They used self-adhesive velcro--when you buy it, it comes with a strip of fuzzy velcro and a strip of scratchy velcro, and both strips have adhesive backing. You just apply the fuzzy (or the scratchy) velcro strips to the weathertek liner, and then apply the opposing kind to the subwoofer.

Thanks guys you are welcome to ridicule me 😊 the endless connectors on the amp are very confusing.
@crutchfield10 ай бұрын
If you are planning on using a powered subwoofer, you can connect for signal directly to most aftermarket radios. Many options will have a subwoofer-specific RCA output for amps or powered subwoofers. You will not connect your 4-channel amp to the powered subwoofer, and if you use a component set of speakers that use a woofer and tweeter combination you can drive all four speakers (front door woofers and tweeters) with 2-channels of your amp. Use our online Vehicle Guide to enter your specific vehicle details and we can show you component speaker options that are a solid fit!

When I installed a powered sub in my truck I hooked everything up but the power to the battery and no fuse in the holder. Then on the bolt that tightens the main truck battery cable I simply added another nut after I connected the sub power cable and tightened it down. Then I rechecked all my connections with the stereo off and last installed the sub fuse near the battery. There’s no disruption in power this way and completely safe unless you somehow poke a hole through the wires running through the grommet.

Blessed Friday and congratulations on your excellent content! 🙏👌 I have the Pioneer TS-WX010A powered subwoofer (the smallest in its lineup), which is very energy-efficient (50W rated, 4.2A maximum current draw) and already comes with its fuse in the power cable. In my car (a 2004 1.6L Peugeot 206 cc), I have a Pioneer SPH-10BT radio with a maximum current draw of 10A, and I want to connect them via RCA cables. The fuse protecting the audio system's power in my car is 20A. The question is: considering the very low power requirement of the radio-subwoofer combo, is it possible to draw power for the subwoofer from the same yellow cable that supplies power to the radio, without running a cable through the firewall to the battery? In Japanese videos (where this subwoofer is quite common), I've seen them do it this way, citing the lack of a need for a direct battery connection due to its low power consumption. In advance, thank you, and greetings from Colima, Mexico 🙂.
