Great video, I just built one and its great. One suggestion--- don't use 1 inch pipe, use 3/4 inch as this is what most pull up bars are. 1 inch is a little bit too big. I was worried about the deck screws not being strong enough but they are fine so far-- for additional strength you can always use carriage bolts which are thicker and go all the way thru. Great video and I now have a bangin pull up bar on the deck.

Nice video. Simple, no frills pull-up bar. Will probably outlast the house itself!

I just installed mine and can tell you right now you will need to bolt it in because I tried the screws and it was creaking and there was no way it would hold so I went and got bolts and it works great. Easily the cheapest and simplest home made pull up bar out of all these other videos just remember to use bolts trust me...and I used a 3/4 by 4 feet pipe with 4 inch nipples and the 3/4 elbows. Good luck with this everyone during this time without gyms

Yo mama 101 I just installed mine as well. I used 3/4 pipes 4 inches out and 3 feet wide. I’m about 200 lbs and looks like it’s working great so far

Ouss Atal nice man we have the same exact setup. I’m about 200lbs as well. I’m guessing you bolted yours in as well?

No glue or cement is necessary since the metal ends are threaded together. Once they're assembled and threaded together, the connection is very tight, and it still hasn't budged years later.

From an actual engineer there are three things one should consider when building one of these. 1. The extension (4" in this case) should be kept as short as possible. 4" makes a solid setup where 24" would pull out of your deck. 2. The screws that attach the bar to the deck must be high quality steel. Some screws snap under load while others bend. Get high quality lags for this 3. The size of the base that attaches to the deck should be as large as possible. The one in the video is decent

@dkblade27 Well I'm not an engineer, just a guy who wanted to get some extra pull-ups in my day. That said, I figure that the side joist is usually strong enough to accommodate body weight. I wouldn't attach a pull-up bar to the railing, but one of the joists should be strong enough. However, I suppose it's possible some decks aren't built well or have shoddy construction. If that's the case, caution would be advised. Caveat Emptor.

wouldn't you need to use extra strong glue? or cement to keep everything in place so that it doesn't just fall apart while your doing your chin ups/pull ups?
