i though reolink cameras only worked with reolink nvr. were you able to bypass that using a switch? and the switch allowed for poe?

The Reolink cameras work great with or without a Reolink NVR. In my setup I have a Netgear POE switch (model JGS516PE-100NAS) powering the cameras and a Synology RS815+ running 'Surveillance Station' acting as my NVR.

i'm a rookie - sorry for so many questions. instead of the reolink nvr, you replaced it with the netgear poe switch and the synology nas together making it your own cloud. you use your computer (workstation) with monitor to manage everything and change settings. so essentially, with the netgear poe switch, you can use any ip cameras whether poe or not. poe ip cameras, of course, as likely the best option.

Happy to help. Yes, exactly. Check out this video for my basic setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5ylhJmflritjbc The Netgear POE switch allows me to use any brand POE camera (and as long as it supports ONVIF it will also be compatible with my Synology NAS) as well as power my Access Point and a few other POE devices around the house. Obviously, if you use the Reolink NVR it would be for security cameras only, no networking, access points or file storage etc..

Unfortunately it does not PTZ. The 423 or C1 does have PTZ functionality.
