I just took off what looks like the same rack from a 2006 Ford Expedition. Looks the same.

Pretty much. My cross bars are from an explorer so they’re shorter. But they’d work in expedition tracks.

hey great idea, I'm planning the same with airline rails. do you think its possible to do it with 118" rails? I want to use the whole roof and not only behind the front doors I don't have my burb here at the moment, so I can't test fit it

I think it is possible. One thing to be aware of though is the arch of the roof from left to right. If you plan on running the airline rails close to the outside edges of the roof then any kind of cross bars they will have to either use standoffs or be arched to account for the arch of the roof.

What size screws did you use. I am doing the same project.

I think they were 1/4-20 and about 3/4” long.

Thinking about trying this. I have a 1990 Suburban. Did you run into the headliner when you drilled the holes? Just curious how much room you have between the headliner and the top of the Suburban. Thanks

That's a good question. You have about 3/4" between the roof metal and the headliner. I accidentally snagged the headliner on one of my holes. My advice is to put tape on your drill bit about 1/2" up from the point.

@@SteveMoitozo2 I actually went to Harbor Freight and bought some drill stops. That should keep me away from the headliner.
