Very thorough and helpful! Technical note: When using a level vertically, it is called checking that it is "plumb." When using a level horizontally, you are checking that the item is "level." 😉

great video, I like that you put silicone in the holes for waterproofing. You are the only video that featured that tip

Great instructional video! I also had a two of the three holes hitting the studs on each end. I got creative with some longer decking screws and was able to drill at an angle toward the stud the other screws were in and it was solid! Thanks for all you do 🙂

That's a great idea! I find that each time I do a grab bar install I have to get a bit creative when locating enough studs to get the proper placement!

Another great video. Seeing a demonstration makes it easier to do this install myself.

8:50 That is actually a drill/driver, not an impact driver. An impact is a bit worse for screwing up against tile as it is easy to over drive a screw if you're inexperienced, which can crack the tile or grout. Stick with the drill/driver. For similar reasons, it's best to avoid the hammer function on some drill/drivers while doing tile work, that's for light masonry drilling into brick, cinderblock, concrete. It can easily crack tiles. Also, avoid overtightening your screws. They should be flush & the bar shouldn't wobble, you don't want to go much past that, tile is very brittle & can crack easily if you overtighten. Predrill a pilot hole using a smaller tile bit, then drill it out to correct size for your screw with a larger tile bit. Trying to go straight to the larger bit will increase the chance of cracking & the bit walking away from where you actually want your hole during the starting process. A pilot hole with a smaller bit is essential for consistency in this process, you do not want to mess up your tile. Do not skip this step or try to pinch a penny avoiding buying a smaller tile drilling bit. Trying to save those few dollars can easily end up costing you hundreds in damages. I've been called in to fix many of these DIYs gone bad while I was working as a handyman.

No! I can’t even rely on a suction cup to hold up an aquarium heater there’s no way I could trust it home up for my precious mom!

Be honest. Third screws (x2) went into *nothing*. This is how one can lose credibility that is so difficult to achieve. Be honest.
@EquipMeOT3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Prior to recording, we spent no less than 2 hours ensuring there would be studs available for this installation to find out during the actual shooting when I put the screw in and it did not reach the intended target. I should have disclosed the details when I released the video but it was so specific to the design of my (oddly designed) bathroom that I didn’t want to add a bunch of non-generalizable content. I will add a disclaimer clarifying that 3 screws is recommended by the manufacturer but after clarification, 2 was sufficient for the weight capacity I needed in my bathroom. Thank you for watching.

@@EquipMeOT Couldn't you have just used snap toggles in the holes that missed the stud?
@EquipMeOT2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkPetrieSLC yes, that is an option for that scenario. I didn't have the right size toggles when I filmed, but later added one to that spot.
