I’m a General Contractor and am impressed by your attitude and knowledge. I no longer have employees because I couldn’t get them to take their time and they didn’t have the wherewithal to trouble shoot. This is clearly a vocation for you. I wish I could hire you.

Hey, great video!!! I have been a carpenter for many years and I never knew about these anchors. I was installing a grab arm in my bathroom and was up against the no stud where I needed it to be. I treied the anchors that came with it epic fail. I looked on KZbin and your vid was the best, honestly. Clear precise direction. Thank you. I bought the same anchors as you did from ACE hardware. Took my time and it's👍a perfect job

Thank you so much for showing me how this is done. I’m the senior who’s having my new tub installed with new tile and was afraid they forgot the grab bars! Now I know they can add them now by simply drill through the tile! Phew! This viewing sure set my mind at rest. ❤️👏

Great video! Love how you showed an unexpected issue (anchor won't go in) and troubleshot to go forward. Most other videos show a perfect room, perfect walls and no issues. Thank you for being real. I learned more from your video than any others. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much, such an honor. & yes, very important you highlight the issues one could run into. Glad I was able to advertise that it’s more ways to installing a grab bar than just screwing it to a stud. Sometimes it’s no studs in the area they want / need, could be concrete etc. More videos coming soon! Thanks for tuning in, really appreciate it.

If I heard correctly, you said to set your drill to "hammer" setting. This is a sure way to crack the tile/tiles. Additionally you need to support your drill and keep it horizontal, not at an angle. You got away with a lot of 'don't do in the industry. Not a hater, just wanted to better your chances of success.

Hello, thanks for tuning in. We appreciate your comment. However, over the years of us doing it this way, we’ve never ran into any of those issues. Of course the same method won’t work for everybody. Different strokes for different folks. It’s more than one way to get this done, people have to go with what works best for them. Constantly learning and growing, that’s the goal. Thanks again.

He is correct though, hammer mode guarantees cracked tiles. Every carpenter strictly advised NOT to ever use hammer mode as constantly punching the tiles will crack them!

This is a very good video. I spent three days with my installation on an acrylic tub surround that was not flat and was on an OUTSIDE wall. The stud finder could not get a read because there was 1-1/2" of dead space behind the surround. Please state the manufacturer of the anchor product you used for the right hand side as depending on where you live we might only have the ones that are at the big box stores., That grab bar was mounted higher than what is recommended, but if that is where she wanted it,..,,,, I paid $60 for the super duper anchors used in hospitals, but could not use them because there was not 3" of dead space behind the surround. Always investigate your hardware specs before you buy.

Shower grab bars are not meant to go horizontal, that's why they are longer than the average stud spacing. They are meant to go straight up and down or diagonal. WHY? Because if you should fall you are able to reach that lower part of the bar, and pull yourself up. That customer will have way harder time reaching the bar if she slips and falls.

You are going to have "HATERS" come after you. Do your "Due Diligence", you know what I mean. In addition to what I have just said: see if a pre tap on the tile to hold your drill bit in place, to help you from having your drill bit run on you. Keep putting out smart videos.

Thank you, young man. I am old and am going to do this in my showers. It's hugely important for old folks. A fall can ruin 15 years of remaining life. May I make a suggestion? The parts you used, perhaps add the name of them at Home Depot or Amazon or wherever to the thing above that says "Show more". I kind of know what Moly's are, but the first items you used, they may be new tech and I don't know them. Thanks again.

I used this video tutorial to install a grab bar for an elderly friend. BUT I burned through, bent, broke, etc 4 tile drill bits trying to go through the old home plaster and lathe (not drywall) behind the tile. Can you detail brand and make of your 3/16 drill bits and your 1/2 inch drill bits. Btw wetting the drill bit really helped do it. Great Pro Tip. Just wanted to know brands snd specifications of the bits u used drilled it perfect.

You should have used a Wingits grab bar fasteners they hold a a lot better and self seal you can buy the cheap ones from home depot or Lowes but the best grab bar anchor would be the The Wingits GBW-40 and will meet all code requirements. Not busting your chops just giving you my knowledge of years of Installing, selling, and specifying Toilet accessories for commercial, Multi Family and Hospitality projects and If you need any fasteners send me a message I am a Wingits Accessories dealer and get lower prices than what you see online and will help you out. Have a great day! and yes I have done that method before but only if I do not have any other option.

Nice. Why would they make a bar with 36" spacing? Are bars often installed at a slight angle in order to hit two studs, or rather installed vertically and attached to a single stud? (although you definitely showed studs aren't required; I just kind of like using them).

I've looked at other" no stud grab bar installs " and even the major mfr's like Delta and Moen recommend using 3 wingets per side if not using the special anchor they sell. ideally both sides should be mounted in a stud. Also, maybe its just the angle, but it looks more like a 24 inch bar not a 36 inch one I do like how you show to use the painters tape to keep the dang bangers/end covers from movin' around. You might wanna check around and see what others are doing first and then improve on it. just a thought.

Youngster nextime put a cardboard box on the tub floor so you don’t make a scrub scuff marks on lady’s tub floors from your kicks or from tile debris…also those chipie headband flashlights are greart do’s you can see inside little holes or little spots……get 6 or 8 inch longer screw bits to attach to screw gun bits to make it easier to screw next to curve of handle.your doing good homie….keep it up….

This video is for when you don’t have any studs where the client would like it. From personal experience, I’ve ran into that issue due to the fact that the studs run 16” OC in most cases. So I’ve had to improvise in those situations. Thanks for the advice.

Just curious. Is this install ADA compliant? I thought you needed at least three screws per side. Then, you found the stud on the right side but you didn't use it...why. Don't you always want to attach to a stud if possible? And I like to find the studs and level the grab bars BEFORE I drill any holes. Thanks for the video.
