How to Install a Storm Door - Andersen 3000

I show how to install an Andersen 3000 storm door. It was an easy project. The key thing is measuring to get the correct size. The kit comes with the drill bit you will need to create pilot holes for the screws.

I used this video and no other directions, worked great. As several others commented, cosmetic tabs might be the hardest part. I haven’t installed one of these in 15 years, this style took about an hour. It’s about as easy an install as they can make it if you are remotely handy. Thanks for putting this video out there.

⁠@@prfinest07hundred percent, dude. it's only just a few screws if no mistakes in measurement or oddities are found the door frame, if the door arrives undamaged, etc.. I'm in the same spot, it's been sitting in my basement since summer. Think I'll get around to it next good weather just to reclaim the space 😅. But yeah, there's a big difference between, "I really don't have the energy for such a non-urgent task to go ass-up because the guy who built my house was particularly creative." and "I literally don't feel I'm capable of installing this." But people without perfectionist tendencies are unlikely to get it. Either way, consider me subscribed, my brother in passive-aggressive self-tasking! 😂

Just installed the storm door using the video. It is very well done - thanks! The only bump I experienced (which was neither in the video nor in the written instructions) was to take a pair of pliers to pull out the metal extender out of the closer. I share in case someone else gets stuck on that step (though based on the comments no one else did).

I just installed the door. It was an easy install except the fact I should have pushe the entire door up into the frame. I just used the orange wedge attached to the door. Now I have a huge gap on the top. The drip edge will cover it . But I think it would have been nicer to fit it up into the frame and adjust the sweep. Since I’m 60 and only 5’2”, I’m leaving it. The door was cumbersome moving it by myself and I would have to find help to lift it while I screwed it in place. But your video certainly made things easy. Thank you.

$180.00? Last week I was quoted 550.00 for installation!! The installation costs more than the damn door itself. This quote came from the Home Depot in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Thanks for your help. I installed the door in 19 degree weather, used blow dryer to put the white seals that hide screws and used blow dryer to straighten out bottom seal that came out of shape. The plastic strips that hide the screws pinched the channel to get her in 2 spots. I removed the seal and took the back side of the blade of a pairing knife to spread open the channel, heated the strip up with blow dryer and carefully put one side of the strip in and the with my thumb of the other hand carefully pushed inward towards the the Andersen door frame and and forward toward the house. Did this ever 6 inches or so always making sure inside edge was in and then moving to the outside edge working the thumb in an angle.

There are a lot of comments about trouble installing the long plastic screw cover slats. As shown in the manual, each one has a channel on both edges. To get them to snap in place, you need to start each one by slipping the cover into one of the channels. Then press firmly on the other channel. Do the same along the length of the cover. They don't just snap into place without starting one of the channels first.

Thank you very much for this instructional video. I just installed a white version of this door with the oil rubbed bronze handle today. Other than making sure I was using the right screws in some later steps I didn't even touch the instructions. I kept my ipad with me and moved through step by step. Like the op said, make sure you bought the right size door for your entryway. If you did, this is a very easy door to install as long as you have the recommended tools and TAKE YOUR TIME. I previously installed a Pella storm door in my old house about five years ago and the Anderson was much easier to install.

Not bad at all. I may look into ordering one of these kits. My last door was a Pella, and I've had nothing but trouble out of it from day one; the frame had to be installed in pieces, and since my doorway isn't perfectly square I've had to shim and readjust it every time the season changes in order to get it to latch. The one-piece design with alignment shims in this kit seems perfect for making sure the frame is installed correctly for alignment. I'm definitely never buying another Pella product, that's for sure; now that I need a replacement glass panel for it I found out they forgot to include the serial number plate on my door for ordering parts.

Great video. Only thing I would add is when you start attaching your door to the frame, check to see if your level at the sill. I forgot this step and my door is slanted by an 1/8 of an inch

What's the height that the orange spacer on the bottom sets the position to when placing the door? It seems to be positioned towards the side away from the hinge, maybe to prevent sagging from the weight of the door. I didn't have the spacer clips because it's being reinstalled, so I may need to put my own side and bottom spacers to shim it during the placement.

Nice vid - I just installed successfully. Only one mishap - i should have watched more carefully on the rain guard installation--ended up with three extra pilot holes in the wrong place. I agree with others that snapping the plastic covers is the hardest part.

Excellent video, thanks. I think the Andersen claim of 45-min installation time assumes the storm door fits more or less flush inside the brickmold frame. I spent a LOT of time finding / creating shims to fill gaps as I did not want to bend the frame, would have done so without them. I know Andersen sells a shim kit but didn't want to wait for it. All's well that ends well, door looks great and closes oh so shmoooooove!

I have been having major trouble with my Andersen 3000 when I shut it the bottom right side of door sticks out about a half inch and doesn't allow it to close all the way. Something is off where should I start?

I agree with all others - excellent video! One question - my door casing has normal brick mould on both sides. But there's a transom window above and the bottom sill of that sticks out about 1/4" past the side brick mould. Will that be a problem and do I have to plane off that excess to make it even with the sides or will the top rain cap accommodate that?

Installing the decorative plastic trim was the most frustrating part of installing the door. The Anderson engineers need to look into this addition to their door. Suggest using a more pliable plastic instead of the rigid, hard, pvc used now.

Why is the INNER handle of storm door INTERFERING with the outer handle of the house door?? Are they hitting each other? Are the handles at different heights from the sill so as NOT to interfere (hit) each other??? Thanks if you answer -- I'm deciding if I should buy the 3000 series door.

Thanks this video was very helpful for me, I just had a very hard time trying to figure out how the lever locking mechanism engaged because the levers on both inside and outside levers kept pulling out instead of staying locked in place when you pull the door shut.

This video has been so helpful. I am a carpenter with multiple other skills. When it comes to mechanics where there is no fudge factor I can tend to panic on the job site in an unreasonable fashion for my skill set. This is a simple door to install and I will not recommend any other doors to customers. For the less expensive Emco Doors by Andersen are there 45 minute install options available?

The same here so I figured id just wait for a warmer day to install a he plastic trim. Maybe let the trim sit in the hot sun for a few.

Too late to help you, but for others reading this, try slipping one edge into the channel at one end, then press firmly until it snaps. Then slowly apply pressure on the cover while sliding your finger along the cover. Might need to press more firmly when you reach each screw to get it to snap down over them.

Perfect video!! The installation manual that comes with the door might as well have been written in Martian :))). The ONLY Change i had to make because of my set up was to remove the Rain Cap and not use that. Because the way my front door is - with the rain cap on it would never go into the slot. I did not need the rain cap since the front door is within a porch and is not exposed to rain or weather at all. I hope not installing the rain cap is OK.

Installed this door but the piston only allows the door to open a quarter of the amount it should. Its almost like they gave me too short of a piston. I removed it for the time being so the door will open all the way. Any tboughts?

Great vid . Saved me pulling out my hair. The instructions sucked. So professionally done I thought Anderson did the video. My door a little different. I had to put on the closer bracket on the door last so It would correct.Did the handle differently too. The way on the vid did not work for my door.

This is such a informative video . I need your advice if you see this. I just installed a new front door and wanting to buy a new Anderson 3000 storm. But unfortunately my jam on my door is 5 1/4 witch makes the outside of the door smaller than a standard Anderson storm door. My opening is 78 3/4 by 35 1/4 witch I would have to special order my storm. Would you order it the exact size or slightly smaller.

The handle installation did not go as documented. The holes are fashion to allow you to put the handles through the plates in a downward orientation. However, it was as if the latching mechanism was upside-down because twisting the handle to open the door had no effect. To install the handle, we had to slide the handle through the faceplate, and twist upwards to the handle is pointing straight up in the air - both sides should be up. Then twist down, locking the handles in place. Then the door's latch will be activated by the handles being pushed down.

i had a hell of time trying to figure out the levers myself they just would pull out instead of being locked into place i spent an extra hour trying to figure that one out, luckily i got it right somehow but the anderson vids don't warn any of that,shame on anderson for that!

small correction, the notch should be facing downwards, i did it the way you suggested first and i did not work, then decided to check the instructions and it says downwards, after trying that it worked.

Had trouble lining up the key mechanism, bottom and top plastic piece. I would like to see how to install screen. It would have been nicer it this door came with a strike plate.
