Hi Tom, my deepest gratitude for posting this vid as I needed to replace my slave BT plate as the filter part of the socket was broken. I couldn't be happier at saving 6 million quid in engineering costs and saved from bankruptcy due to the extortionate call out costs BT have been allowed to charge over the years. I paid £2.49 for the plate and £17.99 for the cutting tool you used. I completed the job myself as (my now ex) boyfriend refused saying it was too complex for him even though he was a carpenter/builder... Well, he could build an entire house if he wanted but he suffered from laziitus when he wasn't being paid (I know I'm oversharing). Anyhoo, it's no more complicated than changing a plug, which I've done in the past, so if anyone was wondering if this is outside their skill set then I would say "if you can change some batteries then this is no worse because God knows we sometimes can't see the negative from the positive and have a faff about before we get it right so... Go for it". Nice short and sweet vid explaining it, I hope the brain farts get better! Thanks again! P.s. screw you capitalism, I'm the winner now! 🔥 P.p.s karma if you're watching, you know I love you but this is tongue in cheek humour, please don't take it seriously and short out all my electrics ✌ ❤ 😘

Hi - I need to have broadband next week but the previous tenant didn't have a phone, so no line installed. Is there anyway I can install a line myself? Thanks
@smartaerials4 жыл бұрын
No afraid not, could always go for a 4G type solution if you didn't want a phoneline.

I was given a plastic IDC punching tool with the socket. Will it do just as well as the tool you used? (I imagine it wont snip it to size like your tool does that matter?) cheers
@smartaerials4 жыл бұрын
The plastic ones are okay for a couple of uses, otherwise I recommend getting a Krone Tool. You can get them for around a tenner. The plastic ones won't cut the cable but you can just as easily do this with a pair of scissors or cutters.

Thanks for the video. I have a question though. You show a master box with a single phone socket. What if the box has 2 on it one for the phone and please for the broadband. As I'd like to move my router about 30m into the living room and theater socket right by front door?

Sorry can you please confirm that your master socket is working fine and it's your slave socket that isn't working?

Could be a few things. I would just double check terminations 1st at both master socket and slave. It could be the telephone plate itself and it could be an issue with the cable. You could try connecting the orange or green pair (you may not have green) instead to see if that works.
@dl89665 жыл бұрын
@@smartaerials i have used my bt punch down tool, terminations look solid, is there a device i can use to plug into the slave to hear if im getting anything or a way of testing it to confirm correct polarity at the sockets? I have a philex network cable tester that does rj45 and rj11 but domt have the cables to test the socketa for it, is there a way of making a cable to test the slave?

Great video, thanks. Can you actually use CAT5 cable to wire phone extension or did you just use that for the demo?

Thanks for the video. I don't have the tool to insert the wires into the terminal and I don't really want to buy one just for one job. Is there anything else I can use to do a similar job?
@smartaerials5 жыл бұрын
Hi Naim, I really don't recommend it bit a very small flat headed screwdriver may work. You would be far better off with a Krone tool, they are only about a fiver.

hi Tom, could you tell me if a new adsl faceplate would work better than the nte5 master socket i have at the moment, i am on fibre broadband thanks, jack
@smartaerials5 жыл бұрын
It would be best to have the ADSL faceplate installed onto the NTE5 master socket, just bare in mind when you do this that you would no longer be able to connect your router into any of your telephone extensions.
