How to Install a Torque Arm / Dogbone Insert In a R36 Passat / MK5 / MK6 / MK7 / A3

Here we outline the steps on how to install a Torque Arm / Dogbone Insert in a R36 Passat / MK5 / MK6 / MK7 / A3. This insert significantly improves shifting, helps reduce wheel hop, and puts more power to the ground. There are many Brands out there, for a stiffer daily drive compliant i suggest a polyurethane type insert, for a much stiffer insert there are aluminium / aluminum options available, Black Forest Industries, 034 Motorsport, REVO are some common brands.

Where did you get the insert from? Got one from ECS for a "B6 Passat 4mo" and it doesn't fit. :(

Very common, this part fits a heap of FF and AWD (4motion) models. Basically anything that uses the OE# 1K0199867P Gearbox Mount - this insert will work.

The problem with this insert is that in reducing the movement of the engine under acceleration etc, that energy needs to go elsewhere- probably through the engine mounts which will translate into more vibration and stress on other parts of the car. The rubber insert you've put in isn't so bad, but the metal offerings from APR have already been given some negative feedback for this very reason - too harsh.

It’s not nearly as bad as your describing.. there is an ever so slight increase in vibration, I mean very slight.. knowing the Demographic that usually follows European cars might find any increase in NVH is totally unacceptable, but those who modify them, make them louder, stiffer and faster would gladly have the tiny amount of compromise that this gives. I have had solid mounted engines in cars before - literally solid aluminium bushes. For a daily driven car that is almost unbearable.. still having rubber and poly in the mount is no where near that level.
