Well done showing the teflon tape. I do not have the clearance in the back of the refrigerator to do this, but I could install it below in the basement where the supply pipe comes up (I would add a shut off there as well). Question: In regards to the tubing that runs from the filter and then to the fridge, is there a problem with the length of the tubing running a few extra feet if the filter is installed below the floor?

Could you keep both filters in the refrigerator? Like adding one and keeping the one that comes with the fridge?
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
In theory, you could have an inline filter on the supply line, and a refrigerator filter. I would expect, maybe, a drop in pressure when calling for water through the door. If you notice this, you can expect the icemaker may produce smaller ice cubes. If that happens, I would remove the inline filter. But, I don't theoretically see any issue with double-filtering your water. Other than reduced water-pressure (possibly) and the obvious 2x cost. Manufacturers recommend changing them at least once every 6 months.

Great tip! YES, I was just explaining the benefits of purging the air from the line. Most customers don't think about the inside of the filter and they don't think about the air inside the line. Purging the air from inside the water filter and line is a key step, and is the last step of changing a filter. Most water filters have an empty carbon block inside, so running water through or submerging the filter BEFORE installation is a WONDERFUL tip. But, some customers may still also need to do the same AFTER as well. Throw out the first few batches of ice, or you can run several gallons through the in-door water dispenser, if equipped.

I have a MayTag french door model and it has an internal water filter at the top internal side of the refrigerator and I have always replaced the filter with the original made by MayTag which is expensive,can I still install this universal filter,I prefer the 5 year type and where can I get it. One other important thing is that when these filters expires there is a red light that comes on at the front panel of the refrigerator and goes off when I install a new filter, if I use this universal filter will the red light still come on or not.
@equipman8112 жыл бұрын
If you don't need to push your fridge all the way back to the wall then ok I guess. It would still be a pain to have to pull it out to replace the filter for most. I would put it either in the basement at the source of the water, if possible, or in that upper cabinet. If in cabinet you would need another shut off at the supply side.

Question, can I leave the existing refrigerator water filter on and also install the inline water filter behind the refrigerator? The one I purchased states it’s intended use is for refrigerators without an existing filter built in. Thanks for your help
@SupplyingDemand9 ай бұрын
Great question! Yes, you can install an inline water filter behind your refrigerator in addition to using the refrigerator's built-in water filter. Doing so can provide a double layer of filtration, which might be beneficial if you're looking to further improve the taste and quality of your water or if you have particularly hard or impure water in your area. However, there are a few things to consider before proceeding with this setup: 1.) Water Pressure: Adding an additional filter can reduce the water flow to your refrigerator, potentially affecting ice production and water dispensation. Ensure your water pressure is sufficient to handle both filters without significant loss in performance. 2.) Filter Maintenance: With two filters in place, you'll need to keep track of two different maintenance schedules. This means replacing each filter according to its lifespan to ensure optimal water quality and flow rate. 3.) Redundancy vs. Benefit: Consider the specific contaminants each filter targets. If both filters are designed to remove the same contaminants, the second filter might not significantly improve water quality but will add to maintenance efforts. However, if they complement each other (e.g., one removes larger particles and the other specializes in chemical contaminants), you could see a noticeable difference in water quality. Thank you for reaching out with your question. Let us know if there's anything else we can assist with!

Good day !! , Q: Should the filter always be horizontal or can it be vertical?
@SupplyingDemand6 ай бұрын
Great question Wendy. The orientation of the universal inline refrigerator water filter can typically be either horizontal or vertical, depending on your space and installation preferences. Always check the specific instructions provided by the filter manufacturer. Some filters might have a preferred orientation for optimal performance. Ensure the filter is securely mounted in either orientation and that you can easily access it for future replacements or maintenance. As long as you follow these guidelines and the manufacturer's instructions, you should have no issues with the filter's performance in either horizontal or vertical orientation.

Can you use the fridge filter and one of these inline filters or do you have to get the bypass plug? Great video thx.
@SupplyingDemand2 жыл бұрын
Great question, and it depends on the refrigerator. Some models may require a filter bypass to be installed for the water to flow to the dispenser. But, there are other models that don't use a plug, and will bypass the filter automatically, if it is removed. You would need to remove the filter in your refrigerator and test your dispenser to see if a bypass is required, but if you know your model has a bypass plug and the filter is removed...it's likely you'll need to attach the plug for the water to flow to the dispenser. With that said, we do have customers that use filters in multiple ways. Some use an inline filter, as shown in the video. Some customers use both an inline filter and also use the refrigerator's filter. This can decrease water pressure at the dispenser, as the water is going through multiple filters and could cause icemaker issues...as reduced water pressure may fill the tray more slowly during the timed fill and could reduce the size of ice in the tray. For best results, I recommend only using one filter, but you can use multiple filters after you test and ensure the water pressure has not decreased to a point that would affect your icemaker or take too long to fill up. I hope this answers your question and please feel free to ask any other questions!

Older house, added water line for fridge years back. He put the shut off valve on my water heater, through attic to kitchen. Does that mean turning off water first from there...
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the water would need to be turned off prior to installation. Most cutoffs are located behind the refrigerator, but if you know where your cutoff is located, yes, please turn that off first. You never want to disconnect water lines under pressure. I would recommend turning off the water to the refrigerator, and then disconnecting the water lines slowly to ensure the water is off. After you've installed your filter and properly reattached the water lines, you can turn the water back on. Be aware the water filter and water line is now filled with air, and now that air will have to be pushed out or "purged" from the line. If you only have an icemaker, I would recommend dumping the first 4-6 batches of ice after changing out the filter. Don't be alarmed if the first few batches are smaller in size, because the trapped air inside the line mixes with the water and it may cause the water to "spit" while filling the icemaker until all the air has been purged. If you have an in-door water dispenser on your refrigerator, you may notice the same "spitting" occurring after changing out a water filter, and you may want to run a gallon of water or more through the line to purge the air from the water line.

Hello Brent! 👋 The adhesive squares used in this video are called Zip Tie Mounts. They can typically be found at home improvement stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot in the Electrical aisle, or on Amazon by searching for “zip tie mounts.” I’ve also seen them available online via Target and Walmart, but availability may differ by location. The mounting squares have an adhesive-type backing and allow zip-ties to be secured vertically or horizontally.

Absolutely, connecting your refrigerator's water supply line directly to your under-sink water filter system is a great idea. This setup allows you to leverage the filtering capabilities of your under-sink system to provide clean, filtered water for both the refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser. Here's what you need to consider: 1. Check Compatibility: Ensure the connections between your refrigerator's water supply line and the under-sink filter system are compatible. You might need adapters or connectors to join the two, as tubing sizes or connection types may differ. 2. Water Pressure Considerations: It's important to verify that your under-sink filter system does not reduce the water pressure below what your refrigerator requires to function properly. Especially with reverse osmosis (RO) systems, the water pressure might be lower, which could affect the performance of your refrigerator's water dispenser and ice maker. If necessary, a booster pump can help maintain adequate pressure. 3. Filter Maintenance: Remember, your under-sink filter will now be doing double duty, filtering water for both the sink and the refrigerator. This might increase the frequency at which you need to replace the filter due to the higher volume of water being processed. 4. Flush the System: After installation, flush the system according to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure any debris or contaminants from the installation process are cleared out before using the water. Directly connecting your refrigerator to your under-sink water filter system is an efficient way to manage your home's water filtration needs. If you’re not comfortable with DIY plumbing tasks or if you encounter any issues, don't hesitate to seek the assistance of a professional plumber. I hope this clarifies things! Pun intended. Feel free to reach out with any more questions or if there's anything else you need help with.

Would I be able to add this filter along with my whirlpool filter inside the fridge ? I had problems with my factory filter within a week of buying the fridge . Turned out my water quality was too crappy and was clogging up my filter
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
A few things before I answer your question. Keep in mind the filter, when new, is filled with air. So, when a new filter is installed, you often have to run a few gallons of water through the system to purge all the air from the water line and water filter. Once the filter, line, and reservoir are completely filled with water, you should notice your water pressure and water clarity return to normal. If you do have hard water, filters may need to be changed out every 2-3 months. Now, to answer your question, running a second filter on your water line connecting to the refrigerator is possible. It will double-filter your water. You may notice even less water pressure as the water makes it way through the inline filter first and then through the refrigerator water filter.

@SupplyingDemand9 ай бұрын
Absolutely, you can leave the factory-installed filtration unit in your refrigerator and install an additional inline water filter in the back. This setup can offer several benefits, including enhanced filtration capabilities and potentially extending the life of the internal filter by pre-filtering the water before it reaches the refrigerator. Here are a few things to keep in mind when setting up an additional inline filter: 1. Water Pressure: Ensure that adding an extra filter does not reduce the water pressure below the refrigerator's required minimum. Low water pressure can affect ice production and water dispensation. 2. Filter Compatibility: Check that the inline filter is compatible with your refrigerator model and is designed to filter the specific contaminants you're concerned about. 3. Installation: Install the inline filter on the water supply line leading to the refrigerator. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks. 4. Maintenance: Keep track of both filters' maintenance schedules. While the inline filter might take on the brunt of the filtration work, both will still need regular replacement to ensure optimal water quality and flow. By using both the factory filtration unit and an additional inline water filter, you're creating a two-stage filtration process that can significantly improve the taste, smell, and safety of your drinking water and ice.

@SupplyingDemand4 жыл бұрын
Totally normal. The inside of the new filter is likely filled with some sort of carbon block and...air. Some techs will submerge new filters in water before installation to prevent air from entering the water lines. But, if you didn't do this, it's perfectly fine. New filters recommend running at least a gallon of water through the filter to purge the air from the lines. You just do this by holding a pitcher under the dispenser. Fill and dump it 2-3 times. Many refrigerators have a reservoir inside the refrigerator that holds the filtered water to allow it to literally chill before you push your glass against the lever for some ice cold refreshing water. My point is...after you install a water filter...it is recommended to run a good gallon or two so you fully purge the lines. You may notice an initial decrease in pressure. I've noticed the same after a new filter, but it usually improves...unless the filter is just dense. I've thought the same and just changed the filter 3-6 months later and then it seemed normal again. So, maybe just a dense filter, but purge the lines and give it a few weeks.

Not bad, but your Teflon tape wrap leaves a lot to be desired.

The back of the refrigerator is a very inconvenient place to mount the filter. Now you have to move the refrigerator to change the filter.

Once every 5 years, Ecopure, for me is easy to replace and convenient and I don’t want to spend $50 every 6 months to replace. That’s more than a $500 savings, also, I should be cleaning under and behind my fridge, needless to say at least 2 times a year.

@@kalaukia434 Do you know if this works for for the water line for ice maker only? Got a new fridge, no in the door water or ice, but regular ice make in the freezer part. OUr ice tasted terrible in our old fridge and want to put them on the water line like this in the back like the video to help the ice to taste better. List is the hex line, mouting/zip ties and ecopure filter. Did you use anything else?

I agree with you but, you and I have seen plenty of "people in the Business use Channelochs instead of a wrench.

My new refrigerator recommends against using plastic tubing and says to use steel only.

Should put the zip tie mounts closer together, like 1/2" apart for that size cylinder.

There has to be a better way to install Teflon tape
@starpartyguy5605 Жыл бұрын
I don’t agree with putting the filter behind the fridge. By your method I would have to pull a loaded heav refrigerator out each time it needs replaced. I’d rather put the filter and valve under the sink.
@SupplyingDemand9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your input, and we completely understand your concern. Indeed, our video was meant to demonstrate one possible method, keeping in mind that kitchen configurations and preferences vary widely. While some kitchens do not accommodate an under-sink installation due to space constraints or plumbing configurations, others, as you've rightly pointed out, would benefit from such a setup for easier maintenance and aesthetics. We encourage viewers to consider their specific situation, including how often they might need to replace the filter and the accessibility of their refrigerator. Your suggestion to install the filter and valve under the sink is a fantastic alternative for those who have the means to do so and seek a more convenient solution. We're all about finding and sharing solutions that work best for individual needs and spaces. Thank you for adding to the conversation and highlighting the importance of tailoring installations to fit personal preferences and practical realities. We always appreciate feedback that encourages us to think about different perspectives and solutions.

Every plumber: always use teflon tape This guy: i dont use teflon tape...... 2 mins later, uses teflon tape. Sorry but stop spreading misinfo, ALWAYS use teflon tape for anything liquid or gas. Smh
@grillbuster1519 Жыл бұрын
You: No clue what you are talking about. Did you happen to notice nothing in the instructions about Teflon tape? Teflon tape is for pipe threads, where the threads form the seal. The seal shown on the fitting shown is made where the ferrule contacts the brass seat. The threads are only there for proper tightening. Teflon tape would only compromise the seal.

I am no profession when it comes to an ice-maker or fridge, but I tell you, I cringed on your use of channel locks with this and you could use some practice with the tape.
