My problem with the push-in USB lighter adapters has been that they are loose and wobble around inside the lighter cavity causing a make/break connection to the adapter. I'll plug my phone in and it starts charging, we hit a bump, and it has stopped charging. This installation is a much better solution.

I have one of these. ON my one (and I suspect they are all the same, but do check if you have one) both USB ports are actually 1amp even though one says 2.1 amp. Other than that these are good, but I ended up getting a dual 2.4 amp USB plug that goes into the 12v 'lighter socket' and use that instead.

Pretty cool. Yesterday i mounted a EXTRA cigerate lighter. Kind of the opposite of this video. I bought a xm radio kit to add to radio and it needs to plug into a cigerate lighter to work.wierd. Btw, some gps need cigerate lighter plugs, may be best not to remove it. That usb adaptor like this video shows is a very nice option. If i add one, maybe put it somewhere on center console ;) i thumbs up

Nice video, I have 3 socket extending unit that plugs into the existing cigarette lighter socket giving me 2 extra when I plug into this, Is it possible to wire the 3 socket extending unit using a relay type switch to actually give me 3 extra sockets.? You sure can, Just avoid using both at once since most cars are only rated for 7.5-10 amps at best

No the same car, but I installed Q plate wireless charging into the little recess at the bottom of the dash, a bit like where you pulled out the plastic to remove the tray unit. Don't even have to plug my phone in, it charges every time it's placed there.

Jesse Guillen there is 2 power cables for instance running from the stereo in gm cars the key on power source is yellow and the constant is red i believe. you can always test this.

the cigarette lighter in the middle of the car is actually power by the battery so it will stay on and the one inside your box is only turn on when your car is on.

Hey there! I have a 1992 chevy silverado and I want to install one of these but keep the stock cigarette lighter in place and not have the USB charger on all the time. Can I install a 12V toggle switch inline between my existing cigarette lighter wires and the USB charger? if so, will any automotive 12V toggle switch work and do I have to install a 10 amp fuse inline before or after the toggle? I probably won't use them both at the same time so I'm not worried about blowing the fuse. I have some decent room to mount both a toggle switch and the USB adapter below my old stock stereo location. Thanks for your help

darrel persaud there are 2 types wires a constant and a key on power. you can use key on wire to the usb charger or you can always install an on/off switch to this

its up to you if you wire it to accessory it will turn off with your car but if you wire it to a contstant then it will stay on always. 5 volts probably isnt enough to drain a battery

i have a question...im have an ipad mounted into my dash as a replacement to my radio...to make everything flush i ran the wires behind the dash..now my issue is as of right now im using a portable charging block to charge my ipad because when i use my cig usb adapter plug and connect my ipad it puts off this static through the speakers...is there anyway to get rid of that because i want the ipad to charge when i turn my car on by the cig lighter..instead of using a charging block and having to keep charging the block everytime it runs empty..if i connect a 12 volt usb charger to the car will that fix my issue and how can i do that and still retain my cig lighter because again i want everything flush and as of right now the charger is wired through the bottom of the dash to the cig plug or charging block. +MrNoGoodGuy it sounds like a real pain having that big old block in there, So I would T off your cigarette lighter wire circuit, and use something more like what I have here, and it'll do a good job of keeping the power on for good amount of time, not s good as an AC charger would of course, But decent I think.

Hmm, I cant be sure, however what I can tell you is this: why you have less noise on the block is because the cars alternator isn't actively creating noise on the power supply since its disconnected due to it being self reliantly charged, You may get a good results if you connect the new power point to an different circuit, and even if there is some noise you can always add in a noise filter too to make it more bearable...

It'll be what your existing power supply does (the one you removed) But you can modify it by simply running a fused power lead over to keep it constant if that's what you need.

Lessco Electronics I'm using the connector for a rearview camera. I'm going to come off either the cig point or a switched fuse off the fuse box. If you look at any wired Rearview camera you can see the red connector and the video RCA jack which Is standard type connector
