@jonathanbrown2190 when toeing and heeling the opening sash is packed at diagnal corners, not on all 4 sides like he did. So its packed at the top corner of the opening side and the bottom corner of the hinge side, this it to stop the sash dropping over time with the weight of the glass. It should also never be done with the sash open it should always be closed When you attach the cill to the bottom of the frame, a silicone bead should be applied all the way along the cill upstand, not just on the edges this is to stop wind blowing through aswell as driving rain. This is coming from a window/door fitter with 17 years' experience.

Good video Craig. Just a question. How do you do the horn on the cills when fitting the plastic end caps? They come packaged so the whole cap fits on the end of the cill. Sandra & I loved your appearances in Changing Rooms all those years ago but here's a question for you Craig. We have had a double glazed casement put in on the first floor (living accommodation). The supplier/fitter company made an error of 240mm with the height of the cross rail (lower part of the opening window). When the window is fully open (top hung) the height of the "hole" for want of a better word, is 870mm above floor level or 665mm above the lower sill (which a child could easily stand on). Is there a building regs "minimum height" above the hard surface (either floor or low sill) to the lip of the opening window to avoid someone falling out?
@MrDIYCraigPhillips2 жыл бұрын
Normally windows should be around 800mm from the floor if lower the glazing is required to be toughened act, however if there is a higher cill on the inside that would make it easy for a child to climb on then a window rail or locking restrictor would normally be required by building Controle, if your in doubt I'd recommend speaking to your local authorities planning/building Controle to clarify what they feel if required for your property.

So I cut out the area that was showing water damage on the wall and I was thinking that I'd fill that with some weather proof expanding foam to see if we can plug any tiny holes where water might be coming in. Is that a decent idea, do you think? I can definitely feel air coming in through the bit of plasterboard I've cut out. Hope that makes sense!

So much you missed here its Unbeliveable Yes, 150 mm gaps from top and bottom, but you didn't say why that is as there is a good reason. You also missed you shouldn't put your fixings into full bricks where possible as half bricks can blow easier. You actually mentioned toe and heeling but didn't do it with Packers. It's done from corner to corner, depending on what way window opens. That window after several openings would drop, and the window would catch. Also, when you put the glass in, you didn't advise to put the energy efficent side facing inwards. Also, there is no memtion of a critical glazing area. So please just dont buy and install your own windows until you actually know what you're doing. Agreed, eurocell are cheap, but their porfile is garbage. You have to advise on more critical items if you're going to give a how 2 video.
