What do you think of the idea of having a wood burner in your van? Would you do it?
@laszlogolyan96504 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would be afraid of the officers, smoke coming out from the chimney leaves no doubt about it being a campervan. In addition, it can be uncomfortable for your neighbours if there are more vanlifers. For these reasons, I prefer diesel heaters. But what were your reasons behind this decision?
@ARTVENTUREFILMS4 жыл бұрын
@@laszlogolyan9650 Hey man, that's a good point. If you want to be stealth, a diesel heater is probably the better option. And you really can't have it on if you're in the city or very close to other campers. Recently, I was parking about 10m next to another dude with his camper and watching the smoke. Sometimes you could see a bit of smoke getting over there but because it was so cold, I didn't think he would have any kind of air intake and the smell wouldn't be able to get in his van. I've actually built in a diesel heater myself and maybe I could make a video talking about the differences. I think diesel heaters are great but they also produce some unwanted smell and most often you can hear them too. My main reason is the quality of heat coming from a wood burner and how cozy it makes staying in a van during the winter. And I have always liked making a fire outside, so having on inside is awesome in my opinion. Thanks for your input mate!

Hey Tyrell! Thanks for reaching out. I learn along the way, sometimes friends show me how to do it and other times i was watching youtube videos. But in any case it's trial and error. I really enjoy this way of learning :)

Do you remove your chimney Cap when you drive? I would worry about it falling off in high speed

Yes, for sure! I always put a cap on, so that water doesn't come in and i hold it in place with an adjustable clamp.

+ ARTVENTURE FILMS Awesome man, is it a diesel? No problems with the german ''umwelt zones''? I am from the Netherlands and have VW Caddy 1.9 tdi 2010 and here there also trying to get rid of older diesels. Was also thinking of converting it to micro camper and go on trips with my MTB and Snowboard in austria like you :) Might buy a bigger van like sprinter so i can get cheaper Camper tax, only issue is the Emession classes of these vans... I will subscribe man! 🤙🏼
@ARTVENTUREFILMS4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support mate! It's a Diesel and so far I didn't stumble accross any issues. Maybe it's not old enough yet. MTB and Snowboard sounds awesome! I don't think those emission classes will be a big issue, unless you want to live in a city where you have those zones. Hope all works out for you! Keep me updated 😃

fab video, thank you! Is yours a metal roof? we have a plastic roof on our vauxhall movano, wonder if a plastic roof would be a problem...?! Grateful for any advice!
@ARTVENTUREFILMS3 жыл бұрын
thank you very much! Yes it's a metal roof. Not sure how plastic would hold up. I would definitely use insulated pipe and maybe have a bigger cutout in the roof so that the heat is not too close to the plastic. But even if its close, I would probably just melt instead of starting to burn. You could cut out a bigger section of the plastic roof and reinforce it with metal. Then the cutout in the metal could be the same as your chimney and would give it more stability. Hope it works out for you!

@@ARTVENTUREFILMS thanks so much for your reply, very useful advice. I’ve recently discovered that conservatories with plastic roofs can take a wood burner & flue, so we’re going to look (closely!) into that. You’re a star 🌟 thanks again!

This is awesome, did it leak or ever start to melt the rubber shroud piece up top?
@ARTVENTUREFILMS Жыл бұрын
Not that i know of. Since it's an insulated pipe and the rubber was a few centimeters next to it, i don't think the rubber melted. And so far no leaks :)

Thanks a lot mate! Your skoolie looks super nice too though :) I secured it on the back of the passenger seat. I've got a full video about that too. In my previous van I had long threaded rods going through the bottom of the van, so that I could clamp it in place.

How do they do on bumpy roads? I'd think too bumpy would break the roof seal.
@ARTVENTUREFILMS2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by breaking the roof seal? The silicone is elastic and i think it does very well with bumpy roads. I think it would rather cause leaks where the chimney connects to the wood burner. I've just been on a three month trip to Greece and went offroad a lot for nice parking spots. I think it held up very good so far :)
