Nice instructional video! I'm retired now after 45 years in the HVAC&R business and the little trick you demonstrated with using the two conductor control wire for a wire tie to tidy things up a bit is an excellent idea! Better than tape, zip ties, or nothing at all! We are all constantly learning new ideas and methods to make the industry better for everyone, good job, thank you!

Hey man I didn’t know much about a zone system before watching your video because I don’t commonly run into systems having zones. You did an awesome job explaining this. I have a service call tomorrow for a zoning system and I’m much more confident going into it after watching this video. Way to keep it Simple!

I’ve been working in air conditioning and refrigeration for over 20 years, and I just wanted to tell you that this is a video that has really helped me a lot. I’ve watched this video twice, the first time I watched it I thought it was too complicated and would turn side jobs down that involved zone dampers. So I decided to give it another try and now it seems so easy, I’ve been watching more of your videos and just wanted to let you know that you are very professional and one of the best technicians that I’ve came across on KZbin . Thank you for uploading videos like these that really help people out.

Hi nice video. just a question about the low limit setting you covered in the section on the advanced settings. You mentioned wanting the heat pump to run on cooler days where the outside temp was lower. But isnt the point on that low level limit setting to stop cooling and prevent coil freeze when it reaches the discharge air temp setting. I am wondering because i have mine set at 45 and noticed that when outside air goes below 50 my system seems to go to the aux heat. I have heat pump checked out and it is fine but seems to shut off at 45 ish.

Very advanced boards now with thermostats even room based Bluetooth now. Here in Australia some zone control units are plug in to 240 with onboard voltage control and the damper/zone motors use cat5 or RJ connection for signal. Does the bypass use a pressure sensor and motor gate or is it just a passive spring return based in duct pressure? Its only really an issue on multi level systems where you get temperature fluctuations.

Great video; very intuitive! Wish all videos were this detailed. The only other thing I wanted to see was how to adjust the dampers to full closed since I think my dampers might be leaking a little bc I can feel a little airflow going to my second floor when I have zone 1 on my first floor ON. I thinking after 8 years it might slipped and might not be fully closed as I feel there’s approximately 20-25% leakages on the closed zone.

Quetion on the advanced settings. As you discussed low temp setting you seemed to indicate you were lowering the stiing because you wanted the heat pump to continue to run on cooler days and lower outside temps. Isn't this limit setting really to prevent freezing in the coils by turning off the cooling when the discharge air temp temp at the limit the temp of the air

Great video bud. Can you answer a couple of questions? 1. So as the dampers close off , it’s like choking down the duct..... is there a static pressure sensor to control the bypass damper? 2. Does the DAT sensor open non calling rooms to regulate the dat when it gets near the limits? 3. Are the actuators open or closed no modulation? Also are the spring return? Thanks

If you choose the Honeywell there fine too. The model number will relate to what size duct it's connecting to. So example, if it's a 12" duct, it would be a Honeywell ARD12. Just change to number for the different sizes.

Does the damper completely shuts off the air to one place when closed ? In my second floor i have 3 bedrooms but sometimes only one bedroom is been used ,is this system helps to have complete control of where the air goes , i have central ac ,and was thinking of mini splits for this reason ,control of which rooms get ac ,and will this help save on electricity or this is not the purpose of this system ? thanks
@HVACTechTips
@HVACTechTips 4 жыл бұрын
These are more in sections or (Zones) like up stairs and down stairs. Not really for room by room. And mini splits are expensive especially if u are putting one in every room. You would be alot better off going with a zone like this. U can set them up also to do like left side or right side of the house
@HVACTechTips
@HVACTechTips 4 жыл бұрын
And it sounds like you have a damper problem if there are only one room cooling and others are not. Or it could be wired wring. Check if when you turn on the down stairs tstat the up stairs rooms start to blow then

Normally when a house is 3 stories, you can zone 2 floors and have a 2nd system in either the attic or basement. So you can zone floor 3 and 2 and have a single system for the basement. It would be very hard and expensive to get ducts down to the basement from the attic

Question: what could be the problem if your zone board is receiving power from the outside unit but isn't sending power to thermostats?
@HVACTechTips
@HVACTechTips 3 жыл бұрын
The zone board does not send power to the t stats. But I think I know what your meaning. If the zone board is not detecting when the thermostats are calling for cool or heat there’s either a problem with the wiring, or the board is bad. Make sure your thermostat is calling for cooling and Check the wires coming into the board at Y and C at the same time.
