McInTEC Thank you for this demonstration. I have a 2003 Jetta and the radio suddenly went out and is dead. I did tons of research and found that there are two fuses to power the radio and they’re both still good. Therefore I went ahead and bought an aftermarket kenwood radio very similar to the Sony in this video. My question is if I just replace the radio without the bypass “wiring hack” and just plug in the converter wire units will I still be able to run the radio normally and just have to manually turn the radio off every time I turn off the car to not run the battery dead? Or will the radio be forced to be on at all times and completely drain my battery? If you can reply that would be great! Thanks!
@McIntec
@McIntec 5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. But you want to make sure the radio is fully off. Some units will still idle when "turned off" on the unit itself. if there is power to the red wire..... Have a set of booster cables ready..... could wire a toggle switch to control the power.

Good information, thanks. I discovered when I did mine (2004 Jetta, upgrade to a Pioneer) that it works even better if you buy the CAN bus interface from PAC-Audio. I'm not a seller, just telling you what I found. The bus interface gives you back the capability of "Aux" power On and generally keeps everything operating the same as the factory radio; faceplate dims, stays on 'till you remove keys, etc.

please do not use electrical tape and run a wire directly into the fuse block like that. Use solder, heat shrink and find a wire that is on the key before tapping into the fuse block.

I have to same car and was wondering. When said you had to to use the wire and ho to the fuse box so the radio would turn on when the car turned. Was that just so that would happen or so that you wouldn't have to just turn t the radio manually? If you didn't do that at all would all you have to do is turn it on and off when you turn on the car? Or was it a power source issue?

Yes you do. I had to buy 2 sets as they only come in a pack of 2. I got them from a well known hardware store so they are not hard to find. I suppose you could try something that is similar shaped? However, you risk damaging your OEM unit which you may want to put back in if you sell the vehicle.

That's exactly it. I did however get an actual wiring harness that communicates with the ECU to turn the radio on or off with the key. I have a video of it, check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/annJi51vZ99jodk

hello friend. your solution is efficient, but not very clean. what I did to solve the problem of ignition was put that cable into the yellow nut number 75x, instead of placing it directly into the fuse box (it looks bad) You do that by removing the plastic cover beneath the steering wheel, you will achieve the yellow nut 75 Put that cable there !! With respect to the microphone, I placed just above the radio. Making a small hole in the removable plastic strip that is above the radio. (A small strip) you can use a Loctite glue or Poxipol epoxic compound.

The cleanest way is to buy from crutchfield and use the Retained accessory power box. That's how I did mine. No tapping into fuses

Just match the wires, get the little plastic connector tubes, and then match the colored wires from the wiring harness you get from the store with the wires that come with the harness that came with your radio. There are other videos that specifically explain this part of the installation.
