Looked all over for a tutorial how to properly install those dampers in flex pipe and finally found this video. Thank you so much!

Use aluminum tape instead of "duct tape.". It does a better job and the adhesive lasts longer. Unfortunately it's significantly more expensive. Also, using mastic (sealant) on the inside of the liner {before the zip tie (always use a zip tie tensioner tool for that part btw)} helps incredibly to create a tight seal. Then proceed to zip tie and tape the joint. Otherwise, good video.

Good tutorial. My house is 3 years old and had terrible balance because the idiots did not install dampeners in several runs. Thought it would be much more complicated. After seeing this, im thinking of installing a branch off of the nearest vent to my 2nd story unit. It blasts a ton of air through it. Its an open 2 story blended air system. All the 3 up bedrooms have a vent. However my main area upstairs area only has 1 vent in the open area on far side of the house. The thermostat is is nowhere near any vent that is not behind closed doors You can walk down the hallway towards the vent and feel the temp change. So I figure if i take the one that blasts air and extend it down the hallway, it will balance out better. My theory is That the thermostat does not sense the change until the air finally meets the thermostat at the far end of the house. That end is always much colder so if I can get some air closer to the thermostat it'll balance out better.

You're right! And it is very simple. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you. Adding comment to bump this up because it was exactly what I needed. Also the other videos were very dull, you have a little bit of personality in your voice so good job.

Thank you for your video I'm going to use it to get my AC company to install dampers on all of my central AC ducts. This should have been done when the central AC was installed during new construction! In my area of Indian River County I have seen one house after another where the seller has a wall unit in the master bedroom because either the builder or the AC installers fail to put dampers on any of the central AC systems regardless of the price range of the homes in this County. Buyer beware!

Oh my! They really should just do it right! I guess you need a great guy in the area to do a whole bunch of houses at the same time. It's not difficult to do, just tedious... and worthwhile... wow... so much money spent on the symptoms instead of solving the problem...

Thank you great tutorial! Do you untuck the insulation before taping or leave it tucked and taped?
@RealEstateInvestingUnmasked3 ай бұрын
You tuck in the outer portion first to tape the inner portion. After taping the inner part, untuck the outside insulation, then tape up the outside

Thank you for this. The HVAC companies I have called do not want to add dampers, though - preferring to sell me on a new split ductless system. Not sure how to approach them.
@RealEstateInvestingUnmasked Жыл бұрын
As the customer, they should adapt to your needs; however, the answer is that the damper can solve problems throughout the whole system whereas a split system only solves a very localized issue

While I did buy it from a local HVAC supply warehouse, these are very similar and have prices that are in line with what I paid. I've also included these links in the description (I hadn't before, so thank you for reminding me!): 6" amzn.to/2SIExRh 8" amzn.to/3uATz9S 10" amzn.to/2Ra8f0X Zip Ties (36" long): amzn.to/2R97s0n Duct Tape: amzn.to/3uDATpJ These are affiliate links.

2bedroom 80s townhome have a bedroom thats next to the airhandler/furnace above my shower tub. That room gets really hot. While downstairs is cooler. I was told not to restrict vent because the unit can overheat since its next to it. Is that a consideration when installing dampers?
@RealEstateInvestingUnmasked2 жыл бұрын
That means you need to consider where in the ducting to put a damper. The information you gave in and of itself does not tell me you shouldn't put a damper. For instance, if you close off the register to that room, the air pressure should reroute itself to the rest of the system. As long as the ducting isn't choked off, you should expect the heat to flow to the rest of the house. The more you restrict the airflow, the more it will affect your furnace and may cause it to overheat and cycle more frequently. You may need to insulate your ducts or install larger ones to the cold parts of your house. There are many ways to solve the problem.

Handy video for sure. But despite the name "Duct Tape", it's actually not for use on Duct work. That myth has been debunked for a while. Better to use foil tape as it holds up to the heat much better and has better adhesive.
