Hello. I have same alternator. Problem is I get 3 volts tops . The alternator shop tested it. As per them the coils are good. Do you think the regulator is regulating too much and is require changing ? Where would I see raw ac voltage before the regulator ? I want to make sure it is the regulator before I invest in it

It should be noted that the phillips head screw on Japanese products are in fact JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) heads and ideally a set specific set of such drivers are used on them. You will find that a standard phillips does not fit properly and frequently this leads to damage of those none too hard screwheads. So, if you own a Japanese bike or any bike with Japanese sourced components on it and are likely to want to work on it yourself, do yourself a favour and get a set of JIS screw drivers.

If you pull the cush drive damper off of the rotor shaft, do you need a press to fit it back on or can you just torque the driven gear nut?

I have a lithium battery in bike. Though the alternator is charging , sometimes I see voltage going to 14.9v which is not good for lithium battery. Would the regulator keep voltage from overshooting that high ? What is the max volt that alternator is allowed to produce ?

What are the advantages of this over the standard regulator unit? I am in Australia and by the time currency conversion and postage is accounted for the cost is similar to the one unit. Is there a greater advantage to using this over standard?

hi, my mechanic plug the 2 wires in place of each other, so my alternator doesnt works, its possible that wrong conection could damage the components like regulator or rectifier?

hello, i have an alternator like this one! Same problem! I ended up making a deduction similar to yours! I used this type (7812 Voltage Regulator Fixed Positive 12V Linear IC L7812CV). Unfortunately I had to try because as I am from Brazil, here could not correct my problem in my Bandit 1200! If you can just help me and tell me if the Regulator I used is the correct one, I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance and great video!
@Rmstatorinc5 жыл бұрын
That chip is not specifically meant for field coil control in alternator. Looking at the data sheet, I don't see any way for it to switch on/off output for energizing the field coil. This could result in a permanently energized magnet, and damage the field coil and stator windings. I would not recommend it for this type of use. It is not the same type of IC that we use.

Hey Evan, I took apart my Nippondenso alternator on my zx7r and I took off the coin shaped regulator using a solder iron like you did. I wanted to test the regulator with my multimeter and I touch both pins and it shows a connection. I touch each pin to the regulator body and it shows a connection. Is this normal? Thanks
@Rmstatorinc4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no way to passively test the original regulator. It needs to be powered to see if it regulates correctly. If you do not have adequate charging (voltage too high or low at your battery), it is very likely a bad regulator with the Nippon Denso system.

Hi mate, just a quick question, what’s the reason for reinstalling the old regulator mounting plate, why can’t you simply connect the new upgrade directly to the corresponding connection points without the old plate?
@brankosimlesa67252 жыл бұрын
Because you don't have mount black wire without old plate

RMStator I have a 2006 Suzuki gsx750f that I just recently purshased. But as I ride for about 10 min it shuts off on me & I have to wait about 10-15 min for it to cool down then it’ll fire right back up. I’ve checked the charging system and it’s charging. I’ve also put in a new battery. Do you think the rectifier could be related to this issue on heating up & turning off?
@Rmstatorinc6 жыл бұрын
This is not likely related to the charging system at all. Even if your charging system had died, the bike would keep running as long as the battery held a charge. Since it seems to be heat related, I would guess your crank position sensor is failing when the motor is hot. Your service manual should have a resistance spec for testing the CPS. Test it with the motor cold, and then when hot and not running, if the values are far apart (more than 20%), that is your failure. Could also be failing ECU. Hope this helps!

RMStator After I was getting some slight flickering on my motorcycle lights I decided to open up the alternator (it looks exactly the same as the one in your video) to see if I could test the regulator and rectifier. The regulator tested good. I removed the rectifier after unsoldering the 3 bare copper wires and the 4th insulated output wire. I tested the rectifier and according to the VOM readings it was defective. So I took the thing apart before seeing your excellent video, thinking I could install an external universal type rectifier/regulator. Now that the rectifier is destroyed do you think this is possible and how would it have to be connected? Could an external rectifier/regulator with a 3 wire connector and a 2-wire connector be used?
@JB-NZ5 жыл бұрын
Hi SJD, Did you ever solve this problem? I have the same issue, I replaced the regulator to only be presented with the same issue. The regulator itself was outputting 14.4V or so, but the voltage at the battery was just over 15V, so higher than the regulator. Was it the rectifier in your case, or was it something else too?

I appreciate you responding. Someone reached out to me via email and is helping out. My alternator is only producing 1 volt at idle and 3 volts at 3000 rpm . Local armature mechanic tested it and he suspects it is regulator. My question is , can a regulator actually regulate backward and so much so that alternator produces just a few volts ?
@ThisRandomGuyYouDidntNotice3 жыл бұрын
Just FYI, none of these screws is Philips Head (PH) all of them are Japanese Industry Standard (JIS). Being careful you of course can use a PH but I rounded of so many bolts... I suggest JIS 🙂
