How to Install an Infant Car Seat Without Its Base (American-style belt path)

Forgive what may seem obvious to others...But I assume the baby must already be in the seat with this type of installation? Or do you slip the little one's legs under the seat beat once it's installed? TIA.

Yes, the baby must be in the seat while you are installing it. You will notice that we are not pushing anywhere that the baby would be while installing it.

This isn't secure. I just wasted an hour trying to figure out what I did wrong. If you put any force into it the base slides right out because there is nothing to secure it.
