This is a full in-depth guide on how we install a power inverter into our travel trailer. RV inverters allow you to power household 110v appliances while away from a power source. The best part is making our coffee in the morning without having to fire up the generator and bother others at the campsite.

Thank you for the video. I have a question. Where in the electric wiring system is your on/off switch. Is it between your battery bank and the main breaker box for the RV (positive wire side)?

Yes, for a main off/on battery switch, it can be placed between the battery and main breaker panel. Mine came from the factory in that location.

I wonder what size of wire/cable you used between the battery and the inverter. I wonder if the breaker you used is sized correctly. You mounted it in an awful location. It needs to be as close to the power source (battery) as possible. The wire between the battery and the breaker you installed is unprotected.

The switch came with the unit as an external on/off switch. It uses a phone cable. I ran the cable where I wanted to install the switch, and it was pretty much plug and play.

What? LOL. You take the power cable and plug one end into the inverter and the other end into the trailer outside. This way the inverter is powering all your 120v accessories. Of course you have to turn off the converter/charger for this to work.

why do you need the circuit breaker? can't you just hook the positive directly to the battery of the rv?

User manual specifies the working temperature of 32 - 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Is anyone concerned the temperature in the bay might exceed well above 104 degrees?

How much amp did you run up to your breaker?

I used the same amperage that was in there supplying the other circuit. 15 amps.

For the 1500W inverter, please choose 15A breaker or 150A inline fuse.

Move that bare ground wire away from the exposed/bare positive breaker!

The ground has clear insulation which is difficult to see in the video so it is not bare, but you do make a GOOD point. Even though it isn't bare, with it just sitting there it could rub through while traveling and ground out. Thanks for pointing this out, I will reroute it under the breaker and fasten it down. Thanks!

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but shouldn't power from the inverter be going to your 120V accessories?

He is showing where the inverter gets its power. The trailer can now be plugged into the inverter or it can be wired directly into the fuse panel of the trailer.

Yes Daniel, the power from the inverter will power the 120v accessories if plugged into the inverter or hardwired. We chose to not hardwire it as we may be swapping trailers soon.

That inverter looks like one that shouldn't ever be hooked up directly to an existing array of plugs & appliances. Have you figured out this issue? I have almost the same inverter just much larger.

Renogy makes good wire: www.renogy.com/accessories-wiring/ But any good quality wire works great. Your inverter manual should give you a guide on what gauge to use based on the amps it will pull.

I think he ment to say 150 amp fuse... According to amazon it is recommended that a 150amp fuse be used but comes with a 200amp fuse.. 2000 watts

Sorry but you made this job far too difficult on yourself. You can attach wires to components that are going to be hard to reach when mounted beforehand. This makes the job quicker, easier, and ensures your connections are solid in otherwise hard to reach spaces.
