there are many, many videos that "attempt" to demonstrate best practices when installing an undermount sink; however this is the ONLY one that reccomended applying the painter's tape to eliminate the inevitable clean up of the chalking !

Random issue with my kitchen sink cropped up last night, and I discovered the wood "brackets" holding it up are split. Thinking I would have to remake that method, I'm at Home Depot waiting for it to open, so I could buy some PVC 2x4s, but I decided to research if there are other methods. This. 😮 I am now saved. Thanks so much! 💯

THANK YOU for this video!!! I bought a house several months ago and my SS undermount sink just fell! Thankfully, the garbage disposal landed on a basket of cleaning supplies so it only dropped an inch or so. Having a hard time finding someone to repair it so will be looking for the Hercules harness!
@MaineDIYGuy10 жыл бұрын
Actually after doing this for 10 years I think this is the easiest way and from what you just explained this is much more cost effective. Not to mention the Hercules Sink Harness is guaranteed to last a lifetime. I like it this way and will continue to do so. I appreciate your input but this is the way I find to be best and most effective.

Thank you for this video. I moved into a 10 year old apartment block back in January with the same sink and granite countertop, but found my sink fell, put in work order, maintenance guy glued it leaving a jack, but then didn't secure the sink so it fell. I told him on the 2nd and 3rd work order that he needed to secure the sink and to watch your video if he needed knowledge for glue alone wasn't going to hold a sink up, but only intended to seal it. He copped an attitude refusing to listen to me again yesterday so my sink fell down again last night. Today I contacted his boss's boss and now they agree to what I said. Secure the sink either with posts or a steel cable like you used. They emailed me tonight saying they'll be back tomorrow to put posts in to hold my sink up. Why do you think an experienced maintenance supervisor failed this repair 3 times only giving the excuses that he's short on staff and the necessary parts for the sink weren't included?
@1963Sly2 жыл бұрын
I had the sink falling on me, but it was bad since the sink full of water. It's unbelievable to find out that there was nothing holding the sink up except the glue. Must had been a dumb plumber that thought the glue would hold, unbelievable.

@@rollzolo Yea, I still have a car jack under my sink which works to keep it up flush to the counter top. If I owned this place, I'd get 4 adjustable rods to hold it up. Granite cracked for the wooden support on the front already had water damage for the previous tenant who moved out in 2021 had problems with no fix due to no workers in the pandemic. Wish I could get them to rebuild the wooden cabinet holding the granite and put new doors on it too. It still works and is dry so it's stable. Housing and associated services is too limited and too expensive here in America. Interesting and thank you. Any testing done on the strength vs. clips? The weak spot is the cabinet attachment. i should think it would be much stronger if the harness is attached to the stone. Less of a catanary, lots of tension on those screws. Do you bother with a harness when doing a vanity sink? Thanks
@MaineDIYGuy7 жыл бұрын
Normally use plugs inserted into the stone on a vanity. Weak point is the cabinets but its simple fix by adding backer board if needed

Hey, some people install a bracket on the left and right under the sink attached to the inside wall. Then they take a ratcheting strap, hook it on the said brackets and tighten it up. The whole strap runs underneath the sink. Plumbers do this and you can too.

Awesome video, thanks! Reinstalling mine after it fell out due to sub-standard mounting clips and poor quality silicone used by original builders. The Hercules Sink Harness looks like a winner - not sure if it's available in South Africa though - I may have to improvise with something similar.

Thanks for the video. I haven't been able to find how wide the Hercules system supports. Looks like a great option, especially for the price, and after searching the web. I am installing a 61" wide granite counter-top with two sinks. Is one Hercules enough? Or should I buy two? Or, just buy more wire? Thanks, again.

@perrygoodheart87486 жыл бұрын
So the strap remains attached and no other clips are used in this installation? I just watched another video and they use clamps along the sides? Which is best? I am having Granite installed and a new under-mount Kraus sink installed. I do not have the luxury or time to do this beforehand as the countertop is being delivered and installed but it is my understanding the install company IS NOT installing the sink for me? So I need them to create the holes necessary for this or the other installation when they cut the sink hole out? I will of course discuss this with them also but some idea beforehand would be useful. Thanks

I was looking real hard to see what was holding up the sink while you put the silicone as the harness was not supporting it yet and it looked there is a ledge under the countertop that's it's resting on. For those without a helpful ledge the obvious thing to do is probably set it on something inside the cabinetI before tightening the harness but I was wondering if I'm missing something.
@MaineDIYGuy8 жыл бұрын
This video is at the shop, normally at an installation the sink sits on the harness and someone else holds it still while silicone is applied. No ledge or anything else is necessary.

I had a quartz composite, under mount sink installed in a new Silestone counter top. Even though the sink manufacturer (Blanco) supplied fasteners and directions for installing them, the installer elected to screw scrap pieces of wood horizontally into the 2 cabinet ends, balance the sink on the wood scraps, apply silicone around the edges of the sink and set the counter top on top of the sink. The resulting sink is not centered in the opening and is also 3/16" below the counter top bottom surface. Also, since the installer screwed in the wood blocks with drywall screws horizontally into the cabinet sides, the screw heads are not accessible with the sink installed. I have never seen this installation technique used before. I am concerned that I cannot ever remove this sink due to the manner in which it is installed. Do you have any ideas or comments?
@meganadams53202 жыл бұрын
try to cut the screws between the wood BLK and your cabinet with a saw that has a metal cutting blade. The. Blocks should then drop out from under the sink once you cut through them.

Thank you for this video. For the average homeowner without a high-speed drill, water cutter, or materials and patience to through the whole epoxy-glue thing, this is a great alternative. It is rare we can have a better product that is easier to use for less money - the unicorn trifecta of home improvement! I can't believe Lowe's and Home Depot still don't carry this. I could get it online from Amazon Prime for $24, but bought it from the manufacturer's web site for $5 + $14 S&H for the same 2-day delivery as Prime. One caution: In the real world, it doesn't go in quite as easily as in the lab in this video. The sink is suspended for awhile until tightened, and is subject to tipping back and forth a bit and/or not exactly level from left to right while putting the caulk bead in. Think of a shoe box suspended by two strings running under it and you can picture what I meant. I had my wife hold the sink level while I caulked it, then went under and tightened it up. Once there, it's gold. I love this system! Thanks for sharing!

First of all, thank you very much for this video. I am a plumber and my painter was standing on my counter to work on a window, misstepped and stood on the divider of the 2 bay sink which is now loose, to the point where the drain popped out from the disposal. it was epoxy-ed or maybe siliconed and has 4 corner screw/clips which i think saved him and the sink from landing in the cabinet. Should I remove the sink, clean everything up and remount it or call the granite people that pit it in? You don't do any work in Western Mass do you? (Half kidding) Also does that Hercules clip stay mounted forever or just till it's set?
