I gave it a thumbs down because it literally doesn't work. That's the whole point in an instructional video is so the you can get it going. Considering there are like 3.5% dislikes it shows the device is very buggy. Previous chromecasts would install without going to a KZbin video. But people go to a KZbin video because something is up like it will not connect properly and they want to learn how to get it to work without having to take it back.

I wish you would make a Chromecast without the need of a Power Adapter, like a powered USB type so I could just plug it in and no cables in sight, clean setup

The regular Chromecast can be powered from your televisions USB port. It's how I have mine. I'm a little worried about the direction Google are taking the Chromecast. It was a great product, you just plugged it in and it worked. I recently had to reset mine and setting it up again was a much more long winded process then it used to be. This new one seems like a step backwards. Why in 2020 is the device drawing more power than the earlier models? Why does it require apps to be installed? I often cast KZbin videos, the KZbin app is transferred and opened on the Chromecast within a couple of seconds. I bet this new one takes longer with all the bloat they have installed now.

@@madebygoogle More than just recommended. My old one I had plugged into the tv, this one requires you to have it plugged into a power source. Though my new one I got still doesn't work after over an hour of trying to get it to work. It's not good when there's like heaps of WiFi connections around and for some reason my WiFi connection would never show for the few times it would connect. My WiFi connection shows of every other device. I sent in an auto generated trouble shooting thing to Google.

Just got one today but the instructions in this video don't exactly match the Chromecast with Google TV. It's asking me to login to Google from my television with my remote. ah but your home is considered to be your nest. plus they also bought up the nest brand so they kind have to blend everything together. they did the same thing when renaming the google home mini to google nest mini. basically the same product but slightly better. and the box is a rectangle instead of a cube

Ethernet. I have a previous dongle that has an Ethernet port in the electrical plug. The version of mimi USB doesn't match the new dongle. With that USB adapter, would that older plug work and provide Ethernet rather than, WiFi connectivity? Why use Wifi for something stationary?

I got one and didn't realize it can't connect through wifi login page or captive portal (i.e hotels, camping grounds etc).i thought this would be a great tool when i go camping. The work around was to use my windows laptop and create a hotspot through it. If Google would allow this to work as all that is needed is cursor and keyboard use. The actual wifi page does appear, it just doesn't allow me to fill and check the appropriate boxes.

Hi, Dan! Once you setup the voice remote's power, volume, and input buttons with your devices, it should be able to work via infrared (IR) for many devices. You can also choose which devices each button controls.
