Thanks so much for this video!! My bias binder foot was working perfectly and now its sewing wonky???? the stitch line is in the middle rather than the edge but I've been doing everything the same. Do you know why this could be?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 4 жыл бұрын
It could pay to check the screws that hold in the walking foot plate underneath. If they are loose it could move the binder over a little. Sometimes this is the reason the stitches go "wonky" also

Look into the quick change push button presser foot changer. No screw driver needed. It’s so helpful. And they’re not much money at all! I have them on all my industrial machines.

I recently bought a bias binder on Ebay (from China, no english or even pictures) and finally came a couple of days ago. Watched your video several more times and put it on the machine, Juki ddl 8700. I pushed the pedal, I thought slowly, and needle went in and came to a screeching halt. I had to pull the needle out with pliers. I didn't have the needle secured and now my needle hits the bobbin every other time it goes in the machine. I ordered some bobbins but I'm wondering if the problem could be something else. (Many lessons learned today.) Watched your video several more time and a few others also. I'm wondering if the part the needle goes in could have been messed up. Or if I've ruined my machine. I live in Podunk and there are few sewing machine repairmen and no industrial repairman for sewing machines I know of. Any suggestions? Also, really, really appreciate you video.

How frustrating. I'm wondering if the binder is bad. It does happen sometimes in manufacture, if the molds get used too much the last ones out get faults. (As long as you are sure it is actually fitted correctly). Just double check it is in the right place - the screws to hold it in can "give " quite alot of movement sideways - you may have just tightenened them too much in slightly the wrong place. If it was me I'd set the machine back to the regular plain stitch feed dogs etc (remove the binder) and then turn the hand wheel once or twice just to check nothing is broken (I'm sure it's fine) then run a line of stitches. If it is all fine, re-install the binder and use the hand wheel again. Good luck

Excellent video, thank you. I have 3 of these binders in different sizes. I've tried them on my Juki Industrial 7000A, but I've encountered a problem. After I screw the new feed dog on, the needle moves up and down freely. The moment I screw the binder with the new needle plate, the needle jams at the lowest point when I turn the hand wheel manually. This happens on all 3 of the binders. What do you think could be causing this problem please? Thanks again for this video, it has helped me tremendously.

Thank you. This is very helpful and clear. May I ask, how good is the attachement in curves, for example a heart shaped pot holder with a couple of layers of wadding?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 3 ай бұрын
Just using this for, say around necklines as a single, or even double layer it is good. With what you are suggesting I think those wadding layers would push out. You could try a wider binder but it would be a case of try and see how you go

Hi, I have a walking foot juki. I also bought this binder attachment, but the foot doesn’t seem to fit as it is too thick…does this attachment only work for regular industrial machines?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign Жыл бұрын
I wish I could help more with this. I would have thought the juki walking foot would have the same thickness foot as a flat bed straight stitcher and it would have worked. Unless the walking foot is designed more doing things like leather and in general, you wouldn't need a binder for that? Good luck

Hi Trish - I have spent all afternoon trying to bind the edges on a quilted jacket with my 36 mm binder attachment but with not luck! It starts off fine but eventually stops folding the top edge under. It works perfectly fine when I just use one layer of fabric though. Do you think the quilted fabric is just too thick for the binder and it's not meant for quilted fabric or would it work with a wider binding attachment?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 11 ай бұрын
I hope the email sorted it out for you
@stephparkes100
@stephparkes100 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for your email, Trish. I still wasn't able to get it to work, so ended up applying the bias without using the binder. I think either my machine or the binder just can't cope with the thickness of the quilted fabric. However, the binding attachment works perfectly with a single layer of fabric. Thanks again for your help. :)

This one shown is for industrial - commercial type sewing machines but the theory is the same for domestic sewing machines. I'm pretty sure if you contact your local sewing shop they will be able to help you find the correct one to buy that will suit your machine. Good luck and thanks for watching

Know what I’d like to know? Is this suitable for quilting and if so, how do you go around the corners and finish? Great video!
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 6 ай бұрын
You CAN buy ones wide enough for quilting but whether they are useful to you or not depends on the width of the batting. Sometimes it is so thick that it won't let the bias tape turn under. To go around corners you have to make/cut the corner into a curve - you cannot do right angles.

Why doesn't my bias tape coil properly under and why does it sew in the middle rather than the edge?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 3 жыл бұрын
If it not coiling properly, the fabric/tape is not being caught correctly when you start feeding the tape through. It is sewing in the middle because the foot is probably not positioned properly - often this happens as it is a "bad" binder attachment - the end of production runs on a die set are often not produced properly - buy a new one

Hey please help me. does this work for non woven fabric?
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 5 жыл бұрын
Woven binders are for use on woven fabrics. For stretch fabrics you use a Coverstitch machine and a Coverstitch binder attachment. I have tried in the past to use very thin polycotton knit in a woven binder, and it worked but had no "give" - and the fabric needs to be very thin. It works (sort of) but is not recommended.

Trish, what’s the point? Do you know how difficult it is to find industrial sewing machine parts online? Please, just say the machines, accessories and materials that you are using with a caviar stating you don’t endorse any one - please.
@TrishNewberyDesign
@TrishNewberyDesign 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, OK, so this video was made specifically for my fashion students on the degree course who were using school machines and parts and said there were no instructions on how to install/use the equipment - I made this to help them - and also so I didn't have to keep repeating myself so I put it on my KZbin channel to make it easy to find. It's easy to find tutorials for home sewing machines on KZbin, but not so easy for industrial machines. I disagree with your comments on part finding for industrial machines. There are large online shops dedicated to just this. The fast fashion industry is huge and a large sector of the economy. Generally, I find it very easy to find parts for commercial machines cheaply - you just tap into google the machine name (like Siruba or Juki) and then tap in Accessories. You can find these binders easily on Ebay or Aliexpress. If I make any more videos about industrial machine use I will very happily take your comments into consideration. and thank you for taking the time to express your concerns.
