Hello Lauren! :) You are such a sweet heart ❤️ I found your channel a couple months ago, and knew them that I needed a walking foot machine! 😂 OMG it’s been life changing!! After weeks of research I decided to purchase from Steve in sewing gold and boy i am glad I did! His costumer service is beyond this world! I had a few issues and broken part from shipping. Steve went above and beyond. Next day I had the part on my door Anyway, thank you Lauren! This video is so helpful! I am lost with thread. I have tried a few that I hate, a few that are ok but nothing that I love

I got my JUKI DU-1181N in June. I'm in Oregon and it was shipped from Sunny Sewing in Texas. Love their customer service, they rock! I've seen with an industrial machine for 20 years (off and on) at an awning shop. So when I ordered my machine, I also ordered thread #92 bonded poly (black, white, gray, tan and blue), size 19 needles and extra bobbins, so I'm good for outdoor covers, etc. Love this machine. I followed Lauren for months before deciding on this machine. Oh, and it's SO much quieter than that other industrial.😉 And i use my right foot on the pedal and right knee for the presser foot lever (which I wrapped in sherpa fabric, because I've had both knees replaced)

Thanks for your Chanel. I am learning a lot. I actually bought my very first industrial sewing machine two days ago and I am so excited 🤪 may she arrives next week… a Jack JK-H6. They tell me to use a 25 thick thread. But I think may it’s enough an 80-100 thickness. OMG I need to learn all about to use industrial machines! I am so appreciate for your videos. I love your bags. Thank so much. Best regards from Ibiza, Spain 🥰

Thank you, Lauren. After much consideration, asking countless questions of the rep I was working with between the du1811n and the 1541S, I eventually chose the 1811; mostly because of what I see you doing with your machine and because of what I plan on doing for my purposes. I have the 8700 and I love it, but it was time to upgrade to one that can handle the number of layers I need to complete my jobs professionally. I appreciate you sharing what was needed for my new sewing machine: coming in a few weeks! I searched everywhere for the information and I ran into your video. You're a gem and you motivate me to do better!

Are you glad you choose the 1811N or wish you had went with the 1541S? I am trying to decide which one to go with. I have also thrown the Consew 206RB-5 in the ring. I want to be able to sew thicker fabrics that cant be sewn on my domestic and I dont want to have to upgrade in many years if ever. lol What are your thoughts?

Hi Lauren! Though we have different models of Juki commercial machines, I currently have DDL5550 and DDL8700, the only time I have thread issues is when I need to change my needle. I use all types of threads on these machines. I have had more thread shredding and breaking on my domestic machines. But I grew up sewing only on industrial machines. ps,You are looking great!

@@irenezewski hi, I no longer have my 1541. Unfortunately mine had many problems. It was a brand new machine but had to bring it in the shop with thread jamming. This machine was so heavy to take tot the repair shop where I purchased it. The repairman couldn’t get the machine to stop jamming so he took it back and gave me a refund. I purchased a Seiko industrial instead. Please do not be discouraged because it is a great machine that many people have. I was just too frustrated with it to buy another one. The only thing I can tell you is this machine will not sew thin fabrics. It’s only meant to on very thick fabric, (upholstery vinyl and leather and heavy canvas.

Fierce Kittenz has a great video on thread and its uses for heavier sewing applications. I've been sewing on industrial machines for 35 years and it does take some getting used to, we used to clean and oil our machines at work every week. That is a 40 hour work week. Use a stiff paint brush or an air type air blower to get rid of scruff out the bobbin case , wipe down the outside with paper towels and oil in spots required mentioned in your manuals. We also used a needle designed for sewing on leather to sew on our vinyl signs, works much better than standard needle, cutting through the vinyl material., we also had open toed feet with our walking mechanism easy to see where your going. Another tip....when you are done sewing a seam and need to pull the item out and away from the machine, press your foot lightly on the pedal...not enough to start sewing...just enough to release the clutch and rotate your hand wheel toward you until you see a downward motion on your needle....this releases the tension disc . You can then lift your sewing foot release latch and it will be easier to pull the item out from the machine.

Great informational video! I also have the 1181n. I was only aware of the oiling spots that have red circles around them and in the bobbin location. Didn’t know we are to remove those rubber caps to oil there also. Steve’s video didn’t show that. Is this something new we are to do? I’ll have to remember to oil there from now on. Thanks for the info.

Thank you Lauren! I was having trouble with the thread “shedding” or is it shredding? Anyways, after looking at this video I’m filling up a few bobbins and do some final testing but you are so right. The ones from Sunny are just incredible. I will just need to replace all the ones that are giving me trouble with sunny ones. There goes a chunk of my pocket but, at the end I think it will be worth it. I notice you have two variegated thread cones in there. Are they both from Sunny? I have the one in the yellow cone. Just wondering if they are different kinds of variegated. Thanks again Lauren! This was very helpful! ❤️❤️ And I disagree with you. We DO NEED those cute magnets! They are the cutest and so much fun to look at while you are sewing. ❤️

I agree. Good thread should not cause a lot of fluff. Causing fluff means that they've used shorter staple cotton fibers to make the thread wrap. Its cheaper to use the short staple cotton than the extra long and the shorter fibers will shred a lot more than the long or extra long will.

Bonded nylon and bonded poly are nearly interchangeable in most applications, except where UV resistance is important like boat covers or outdoor cushions. Mara 100 is a garment thread, and superior spun poly is designed for high speed overlock, so you are totally right about them not being right for your application.

Hi Lauren - I purchased a Juki DU 1181N approximately 6 weeks ago. I started using the machine about 3 weeks later. I purchased it from Sunny Sewing Center in Dallas Texas. I mostly use faux leather fabric for my handbags, using size 18 needle and Tex 70 nylon thread. The bottom stitches on the faux leather looks great the top stitches are showing loops. I tried tightening the tension but the top stitches doesn't look like the bottom stitches. Have you had issues with top stitching? What do you recommend to try to resolve this issue ? If I can't solve the problem I'm going to remove the sewing machine from the cabinet and take to Sunny Sewing Center. I'm a quilter and I started watching your KZbin videos on handbags so now I'm making handbags. I have made most of them on my Juki TL-18QVP. Thank you for your videos. Lauren King from Dallas Texas.

The hand wheel can be hard yes but lift up on the knee lift slightly and it’s easier I do not have the needle synchronizer which is an up/down feature. It’s not something I’d want on a machine but some people love it!

Anybody know, can you use the bonded poly and nylon threads in a baby lock? Looking for a thread that will hold up in bag making while not using an industrial yet.

You can probably get away with it if you use a size AA or B nylon, anything larger will probably be hard on your machine

Could you quilt on this machine? I love quilting and making bags. I am looking for a machine that will do both and I like free motion quilting too.

Great video. I'm lucky I have a Juki dealership within 10 miles of my house. And yes you do need that magnet! It is so nice to be able to put your tools on it so you know where to find them. When is that baby due? Looking good!

Do you mean you use you knee lift with your left leg? And doesn’t the outlet that makes your extension cord get all bent drive you nuts? Turn that thing over 🙃

Hi! In one of your videos you used an automatic bobbin winder. Would you please tell me the name and where you got it from? I know you can wind it on the machine (Juki 1541) but I'd like to try that. Thanks!!

Very helpful, thank you! I’m new to an industrial machine. I couldn’t figure out why my thread kept fraying and breaking and my tension is off.

Lauren Mormino I’m starting with the Peek-A-Boo bag to start. I’m just using marine vinyl from Joann’s and some cotton fabric I bought couple of years ago. I’m going to try #5 nylon zipper. I really don’t care if it turns out bad, I just want to know that I can make it.

I went through a whole set of drinking glasses with my first pregnancy....now, this was 42 years ago, so not the choices we have for other drinking "vessels"....After that I got Tupperware drinking glasses.......not cutest, but they were still hanging around years later..... What is with the dropping things during pregnancies, anyway? Never heard an explanation......

Dear Lauren, I'm having difficulty finding Amann thread retail! I've contacted Amannusa and Their distributor DirectTex but you have to have a business to buy wholesale. I am not a business, just want a few spools of Amann Tex 70 bonded nylon or Tex 90 bonded polyester. I need a retail outlet or website to shop. Thank you.
