Yeah who knew i thought the whole point of artificial turf was to avoid the work of real grass. I never would have thought to use nails and what was the point of putting sand on top of the turf?
@kbanghart

@@jimmbear3998 the sand I think helps to keep the grass standing straight up. And nails just keeps the material down

@@ender2664 that's great to hear. I certainly don't have a professional backyard myself, although I live in a neighborhood where people try to keep theirs that way. Nice to know this won't be too difficult. I think I'll just try to get a piece that is precut to the size I need, make it easier.

As a professional artificial grass installer in the UK I am always interested to see how others install grass. We use a 1" sharp (concreting) sand layer on top of the sub base as this gives a much nicer feel when walking on it, more like real grass. We also always use a weed membrane on top of that to prevent weeds from growing up through the grass, the artificial grass has drainage holes, it is not a weed barrier in itself. We don't nail the grass down, what are you nailing into? dirt? that is not going to give a long term stable lawn. We fit a 2"x2" tanalised timber border to the area prior to putting the sub base and sand down. The grass is then nailed onto the timber and tucked down over it, using the carpet stretcher to tension the lawn which ensures no wrinkles. Finally we don't use infill, it used to be required to keep the pile upright but with the modern artificial grasses it is no longer required, we power brush it up and it stays up.

What I get from the comments section Is that many of the people In comments have never worked a labor intensive job lol. This actually looks like I thought It would. I'm putting down some turf In my small yard. I live In an apartment that has a lot of rocks In the back and my fog walks out there so I dont want her walking all over some of the sharper rocks and she likes to lay In the sun. I plan on getting a decent 8X15 piece and just putting It over the rocks. I dont care about wrinkles or for It to be as nice as you guys did It since It'll be temporary. Hope It comes out looking okay at least. Keep up the hard work.

I just finished my back yard. About 1700sqft. First time doing it and lots and lots of videos watched. This video helped me a lot. One of the best on youtube. For people wanting to do this...guys its not that hard. Just labour. I`ve done most of the work alone. I only needed help when i joined 2 pcs. My pcs (2) were 15m long by 4m wide, so yeah...very heavy. Used about 1000 nails, but this helped me not to put any sand at the end. When you cut to make a seam, make sure you cut one pc very close to the yarn, and the other pc leave a lip of 1/4`` so you keep the gap consistent between the yarn when they are close together. The gap between pcs, not more than 1/16. I also used seam tape to glue them together, then nails...every 2``. I have 2 seams, and you cant even see where they are. I`m very happy with my first time. Now i have to wait for next year and good weather and get the front of the house done. Btw...do your research and order your artificial turf from China (alibaba). I paid $3000 for 3400 sqft, and i sold half of it for $3000. My 1700sqft back yard cost me $700 including the base material, weed barrier, tools rentals and beer. Cheers!

Also, if I was a homeowner I wouldn’t just follow those lines on the bottom as you cut. One reason is because your sidewalks may not be straight (most likely not). Great attention to detail guys!!

I don't think you put enough nails in 😂 If it was me I would screed a layer of sharp sand over compacted hardcore and then a membrane before laying A/T as it can never be perfectly level if you are putting it straight onto compacted hardcore but it would be if you used a screed layer of sand and you never have to worry about stones poking through also a bit ridiculous that you needed a laser level for such a small area I would measure of the bed joint of block work if I wanted to quickly check depth but even that would be unnecessary and as for all them nails what a load of bollicks a carpet is held from the perimeter and the same for A/T all them nails into compacted hardcore is nonsense but other than all of the workmanship I enjoyed the upload 👍🇮🇪

Is the cost of installation equivalent to a basic deck? I have seen estimates from $2500-7000 per Google listings. Thanks! I think making sure the gradient is properly angled to ensure proper water runoff is the main part that can be a bit challenging.

Useless why have you laid the turf straight on the MOT you need a screeded base or screeded 10mm - dust limestone. Fall on that might as well fall in concrete

Put a 5/8 permeable base top course. Not that it matters but I make permeable base materials for a living for big sport fields. Maybe you won’t get lumps like you are just using the base course

Great video. I know nothing about fake grass so Q1 what dose the sand on the grass do? Q2 what is better for base? Gravel or packing sand. And why? Thanks

You're only suppose to nail the perimeter because this grass will expand and contract. Putting nails everywhere can cause dimpling later on
