Thank you for posting this. A new quartz countertop for the bathroom is coming tomorrow and I was starting to stress out over botching the install. Your video has got me 'off the ledge' and feeling pretty confident. Follow Up: Worked great!

Thanks Jim. Glad to help. And don't worry. Quartz is very durable. Let's say you do mess it up, just take the sink out. Then clean everything up with denatured alcohol. Try it again. Silicone holds extremely well but also cleans up nice too. You'll do fine. Blue tape is key to keeping the mess down. Let me know how it goes. Thanks again.

A small bead of silicone is fine to hold the sink but don't let it ooze out to use as the caulk. Silicone doesn't clean up well when dirty and and thin edge from working it will peel up after time if scrubbing. It may look pretty at first but it won't take long to look grungy. And the clear yellows.

Please I have a question: Do You think I can put a sink like in the video the space for the counter I have is 39" wide x 23" deep (front to back) Thank YOU and I hope explained good.
@GraniteByJay4 жыл бұрын
Almost all bathroom sinks are made to fit in a 21" deep cabinet. The sink in this video was put into a countertop that was 22 1/2" deep. It also had a 1 1/4" thick backsplash behind it. So really, visible countertop was only 21 1/4" deep. In short, Yes. You can fit this sink into a 23" deep countertop. The 39" wide is more than enough room too. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

What kind of silicone did you use? Will the silicone also work on laminate?
@GraniteByJay4 жыл бұрын
Hello. I use 100%RTV silicone. Lowes and Home Depot sells 100% made by GE. I get mine from a local shop that makes adhesives and sealants. Any 100% will work great and its bonds really good to all surfaces. Its is what you want for laminate tops too. Thanks and hope this helps.

I'm going to be doing this real soon. Just waiting for the sink to arrive. Is there a particular silicone recommended? Are some more adhesive than others? Would the stronger adhesives be used or does it matter. What is the difference between GE Silicone 2 and GE Silicone 1?
@GraniteByJay3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack. I would highly recommend any 100% silicone caulk. I have used both the GE 1 and GE 2 in the past. I personally could never tell the difference. Both are extremely strong. I think the only difference is that the GE2 has a Microban additive that prevents the growth of bacteria and mold. Just stay away from the water base caulk. Like the DAP or other paintable sealants. They are not as strong and they don't last over time. Almost every sink I've seen mounted this was has failed or moved. Hope this helps, and let me know how it goes. Thanks for the comment.
@njsongwriter3 жыл бұрын
@@GraniteByJay I thought I read that the GE2 was not recommended on granite... Sink came today but I'm returning it tomorrow. It looked like some sort of glue was on it just a heavy trail and hardened on and not easily removed. So now I have to reorder it.
@GraniteByJay3 жыл бұрын
@@njsongwriter That sucks man. I wouldn't settle for a bad sink either. I just looked on the GE2 website and it said it will adhere to granite. I never have had any issues with it in the past. You're good if you ask me.

This is a real journeyman question; I am the homeowner; I have a 20" oval drop in sink and I think the hole was cut wrong when the house was built. How big should the hole be for the sink?
@GraniteByJay5 жыл бұрын
@@johnyates670 The cutout templates are all different for makes and models of sinks. some sinks will overlap the stone 1" or more. And yet others will only give you 3/8" to silicone it to the countertop. Why, I'm not sure. And yet still, some have weird notches you need in the front of the cutout for the overflow. Two things come to mind with this comment. 1. cutout is right but sink moved or shifted while the silicone was curing. 2. Original sink cracked and they found a new sink that "kind of fit" into the existing cutout. Let me know if this helps at all. Thanks John.

@@GraniteByJay ... The bowl has a 3/4" lip to apply silicone to when doing the final installation...the front to back is cut right; the left to right is not; when the bowl is laid in the opening there is about a 3/16" gap between the lip and vanity top on each side; I will have to figure out how to enlarge it so it sit flat thanks ...
@GraniteByJay5 жыл бұрын
@@johnyates670 Check out one of my undercount sink cutout videos. You have options. You can use a circular saw or a angle grinder with a drum wheel to grind it out. Even some core bits for drilling have side diamonds that you can use as a grinding wheel. Good thing the cutout is too small. Thats an easy fix.

Seems like the tape was useless. Not sure what it's purpose was.
@GraniteByJay6 жыл бұрын
The tape is used to help center the sink when glueing. If you get it right where want, and then cut the tape to the bowl, it is allot easier after you put down a silicone bead. Silicone and polished stone countertops can turn into a smear-fest real quick. This give you a clean pro look.
