Not sure if i've commented here in the past, but even if I have, I would like to reiterate my opinion on this video and the author of the commentary. This is the most comprehensible step-by-step installation of a Bore Kit on a qmb139 engine that i've come across. As you've also stated in the video, you've done this many times and get overconfident; however in other tutorials it seems as though they skim over tiny important details because of that overconfidence that you seem to explain very well. Crucial information for beginners and seasoned professionals alike. I used this video as a reference for installing my first Bore Kit, and she ran wonderfully. I will use this video for further kit installations. Thanks, Rouse Garage, for being so thorough and taking your time. Teaching is an art.

Hey, I wanted to thank you greatly for posting this video! Definitely the most comprehensive set of instructions I have found. I just performed the steps on a Kymco 2023 super 8 50x. They were pretty much identical with the exception of the housing had one extra bolt. Otherwise, it was spot on. I ended up using a zip tie to keep the chain safe and one mistake I made was not pulling the chain far enough out when I was trying to push the assembly back together. So the chain got caught a little bit nothing happened, but, just caution for anyone else when they were putting everything back together. Again thank you very much for a fantastic guide!

Great video. I would add to check the flywheel to make sure it's still at TDC (the "T" at the mark) before closing up the engine... It's not impossible for the flywheel to get turned/rotated while you're trying to get the rings and piston into the new cylinder. You should recheck it before lining up the camshaft and timing chain.

The rings, I have always put the gaps 180° from each other, I have seen others do 60° but that doesn't make sense to me, 180° always worked for me! And I always put them at 12 & 6 o'clock, I also like to polish the dome of the Piston, to help prevent carbon build up, and reflect heat a bit, possibly. It wouldn't hurt to slightly lighten the Piston, without weaken it!! I just done one of these, I ported the head and unshrouded the valves, went to a A9 cam, and 20mm carb, I'm about done, and ready to see how she do!

I seen about 20 comments on the carb him just setting it aside... Do you really think this guy dont know it has to be tuned? Maybe he should have said something but this vid is on the installation of a Big Bore Kit not tuning a carb just the bbk i believe i seen a vid in his list about carbs. But as far as the vid amazing! I watched tons of vids i tried watching ones with "non mechanics" doing it since im not 1 and figured they would do it the way i would (i was right) but i also like a few full breakdown vids and this is the best one i seen the little extra stuff like adding Lube to the Piston which makes perfect sense but never seen or heard it before. And using a tiny bit of gasket maker shit like that is great. 👍 good job and thank you. Dont worry you cant make everyone happy just know you helped a new scoot tuner out a lot!

Also put assembly lube on the cam, (both the bearings and the lobes). And for good measure, both contact points and the pivots of the lifters. Assembly lube is cheap, new parts are not - "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". May not be needed, but I always turn over any motors I work on by hand with the spark plug removed, to help pump a little oil before a hard start. These little motors are easy to do. BTW, great video. Only wish you did a before test run and an after, to see the difference.

I'm going to put a big bore kit in my wife's scooter as well. On your video everything was stock except for the big bore kit. My question is do you think the larger valve head and big bore kit are worth it or does it add very little performance in relation to the added cost. I ask because you didn't bother with those upgrades. Also want your opinion of performance exhaust and heavier/ lighter rollers as far as actual performance high end or otherwise.
@JoshuaStork
@JoshuaStork 5 жыл бұрын
Great video. My only gripe is that you shouldn't use assembly lube on the parts before install. It's going to get into your engine oil supply. You should use the normal engine oil that goes in the engine. That is what is going to be lubing it when it is running anyway and using engine oil to coat your parts means that your oil supply won't be contaminated by the assembly lube which may not be suited to the engine.
@theamerican7080
@theamerican7080 5 жыл бұрын
You're kind of right, but any competent and experienced tech knows to change the oil almost immediately after breaking in new engine parts. The factory uses the same lube, and it stays in the crankcase until the first owner decides to do maintenance, if ever.

Thank you ever so kindly... your video was most enjoyable to watch and was worth to me your weight in gold. In my opinion you Sir are the very example of why the world is a better place by the sheer fact that you are in it. Please keep being who you are, you've restored in me HOPE that there is at the very least "one" kind and desent Man still willing to help, may the blessings of the Universe rain down upon you and yours always

May as well bore out the intake and exhaust ports and polish. Adds tons more torque and I run a 105 main jet with 20mm carb and thru and thru glass packed silencer. Also have upgraded final drive gear and top out at 75mph with 9 gram roller weights.

You should use the double nut method rather than plyers to install the studs!

This about the most detailed video I have found, I do have a question though, I must of watched this 5 times , And checked and rechecked everything, I have what seems to be the piston knocking on something while running, I have taken it apart numerous times all the way to the cylinder and check it over and over, I cant seem to find anything everything is in the right place, timing chain is tight no slop the valves are set properly to .004 theres no binding anywhere, everything moves fine. NO issues running , idiling or in performance , it runs fine . Just knocks and its driving me nuts. Fresh rebuild last week. Thanks for the advise so for all the rambiling .

43:50 I don't know about you all but I don't recall there being any spacers in my engine. Nothing's broken or gone too wrong yet so I think I'm good. First engine rebuild I'd ever done so I didn't do so bad.

I have an idea for keeping the chain from falling while you're working. How about using a plastic chip clip? The small ones that are made to keep potato chip bags closed to keep them fresh. The chip clip could hold the chain while you're putting the jug on.

Nice work, but be aware of 2 things. Clean your camera lens, and use a longer tip 6o degrees grip to installing the clip side of the rod..and a bit more light maybe. Thanks.

Excellent Tutorial! So I guess when you were installing the piston in the jug you just kept pinching the rings while keeping pressure on the head until the piston fit in the jug?

Place a shop rag around your connecting rod, before you remove or install your piston wrist pin C-clip..Preventing it from an accidently falling down into the crank!.

It's always a good idea to stuff a rag in the crank case/ cam chain tunnel when removing/ installing the circlips etc to stop foreign objects from finding their way into the engine as lots of swearing and shouting can occur! not to mention the inconvenience of splitting the cases!.
