Love watching your older how-to vids for a refresher. I have extra parts laying around so I bought some items for another bike build. I like watching your vids to make sure I have all the small parts or tools on hand. This build will have front/rear brakes, so this how-to helped me remember what it all entailed. I'm an older rider, so I haven't done this in years. It'll come back eventually. 🤔

Would this setup work for a rear brake using a noodle to keep the cable out of the way and just running it around the seat tube? Seams like it would be a more efficient angle to pull on the callipers!

Excellent tutorial video, just coming to end of my 1st custom build, 2024 Skyway Street beat. Waiting on Springfields, you saying no front hardware has to be bought separately, adapter's or whatever yeah, that's awesome! Thought I was going to struggle with the brakes, only ever worked on O/S Dia-compe's. Thanks Brant👌👊

Thanks so much Brant! I picked up an Odyssey brake kit and was frustrated when I tried to install it as there was no front barrel adjuster or other hardware specific to front brakes. I thought I'd wasted my money, but now I know exactly what to do!

@Brant_MooreThanks for this video! It makes me feel a little dumb because that was pretty simple but thanks. Everything I've done to my bike I've used your videos. Can't quite figure out the 2 cable gyro but I'm gonna keep trying till I get it right. Definitely the best how to BMX vids on KZbin

Thanks! Does it matter which side of the fork and brake assembly you route the brake cable to? Like, does it negatively affect the operation of the brakes if you had threaded the cable down the stem/fork and then wrapped it around the left side of the fork instead of the right so that the barrel adjuster is on the left and the narp on the right?

what drives me up the wall is my cable still rubs on the tire even though i looped it around like you have shown. True, you do run a narrower tire than i do, my tire is pretty wide, im thinking i may have to 3d print some sort of cable guide to keep it from rubbing on the front wheel.

Love the video(s), very helpful. I did a search and yours was the one I ended. What is the piece called that the cable goes into on the brake after it comes out of the forks? My Odyssey brake did not come with it. Thanks.

Is it possible to add the front brake mounts on a fork that doesn't have them built in?
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 4 жыл бұрын
There is such a thing as a 990 plate that is mounted in the hole that some forks have in the steer tube. If you can find one you could use that and if your fork doesn't have a hole, I might suggest finding someone local who is a machinist and can guarantee one that is where it needs to be! Hopefully that helps enough to earn your subscription!

If my stem doesn't allow a cable in, there's the allen screw there, should I have a different stem or a screw with a hole for the cable? What's the method on one of these? The bike is Premium solo model, thanks!
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure there is another way to do it properly. You can run the cable on the outside like old school bikes but then the bike won’t function 100% correctly. You may have to get a different compression bolt setup that allows the cable to go through. Not what you wanna hear, but unfortunately the way it is
@ODGuitars
@ODGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I figured I'd probably have to change the bolt for that, I'm still not sure if I'll add the brake, it's just an old habit from the age of 16, I'm now 39 and just realized everyone rides without them, haha

what I do when I set my fronts up is I will have the barrel adjust on my lever stick out more than what i like, then tighten the cable knarp with the cable pulled so my front wheel is locked up. then i screw in my barrel adjuster until it feels good. hope this made sense, it's easier to show and type lol

Something to note for all the people saying "why would you use a front brake", If you live in a very hilly area and destroy shoes riding brakeless, or crash into people at the skatepark, it may be in your best interest to run a brake. A front brake doesn't require a gyro, straddle set-up or cable hangars. and you are running a very short cable directly through your headset and around the outside bend of the fork. This is very lightweight and "clean" looking IMO. Also, the front wheel doesnt move on dropouts so it can truly be set up once and not need adjustment after a crash. There are plenty of positives to see if your willing to try something new and not just bash something you know nothing about! I ride flatland and some street. started off with brakes, then only a front brake. I ride mostly brakeless now but still throw a brake on occasionally.
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 3 жыл бұрын
Great point man, I’d say the only thing you left out was the advice for people to not just slam on their brake if they have only a front brake so that they don’t front flip. Haha
@caffeine4130
@caffeine4130 3 жыл бұрын
@@Brant_Moore haha true, but I almost never go fast enough that it would be an issue while riding flatland. If someone cuts in front of you and you need to rely on the front brake, just lean back. On the streets just riding spot to spot it’s a nice thing to have when approaching a downhill intersection (for example). If you have a chrome rim and simple green on the rim, you can use it like a horn on a crowded sidewalk 😛

The only part I didn't like about this video was when you took the slack out by using the barrel adjusters, it looks so much cleaner to leave them alone and pull more cable through the knarp instead.
